Got my first taste of AV as alliance

The bridge is a great choke too but for three problems:

  1. When alliance loses SPGY almost all of them go to the cave and can’t use the bridge as a choke because they are in the wrong side of it.
  2. The backdoors mean that the horde has several ways around it, even if those can also be defended.
  3. By that point alliance is pretty defeated because the IWB choke is too effective and most aren’t getting through it until horde are past the bridge and it’s too late to do much offensively.

They said IWB, not IBGY.

You right. #sigh. Reading is hard.

Trinket

I don’t see a lot of this. The backdoor is something people use to ninja bunkers and sometimes aid station. If Alliance are full on defense and fighting till their last breath the backdoor doesn’t happen, Horde just push in through the bridge and take over bunkers and slowly push in.

In my experience backdoor is a tactic to see if you can get some Alliance to fall back from SHGY or SPGY (whichever push is happening) to help push. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a large group of horde go backdoor at once, usually it’s like 2-3 people, usually stealthies.

Well, since you can kill Van with only 10 people. I have seen it happen far too often. People use it believe me. I am usually solo defending back there on my hunter. Though, I havent played in 3 weeks and probably wont go back to AV unless blizzard makes some type of change.

Of course trinket. But you need to equip it and get out of the cave to use it. Not to mention get enough people to do it to matter. Also the horde know about this issue and surge across as soon as the take SPGY so you recall into a mess of horde.

Instead what should happen is all Alliance should rez in the base and be able to defend instantly.

The backdoor splits defenders and makes it easy for horde to slip in and get in/behind that tower. To get rid of them you need a bunch of defenders because the attackers will simply LOS and pick off people. In the meantime they make it difficult to recap that tower.

The horde dictate if the success of that strat. If they continue to pinch off those trying to zerg south, the strat will never work.

I don’t because I never see it. And while I believe a 10 man Vann is entirely possible I’ve never seen it given the current meta, Horde are pretty much always pushing as a unit so there’s no need for us to backdoor our way in or anything of that nature. Moreover Horde don’t want fast games, they want a game to last 30 minutes to get the bonus honor.

I’ve been doing AV queues throughout the day since COVID and I can tell you this is what happens in literally every game that I’ve been in since I started doing that: We take SFGY, we pick off LTs as we fight over SHGY, we get SHGY and finish off LTs, cap IWB/SHB, we kill Bal, we start pushing SPGY and by now we’ve summoned Lok (who is almost never used, but bonus honor), eventually we get SPGY so we push bridge into bunkers into Aid, we wait on bunkers/30 minute timer if needed, and we kill Vann. Maybe some stealthies went into the base ahead of time to cap bunkers, maybe they got backcapped, maybe it never happened.

Maybe some Alliance get south and try to get LTs, Galv, GYs, Towers, etc towards the end of this. If any of that happens a handful of Horde are usually trying to defend and wipe them out and are mostly successful, but we can’t stop them from getting some/most of the LTs.

Most of my games the Alliance may fight for Aid for a little bit, but not very much. There’s no epic push into Aid like there is in SHGY or SPGY, it falls over pretty easily. Horde just get into the bunkers, and maybe a decent fight is put up before we push into Aid. We don’t overrun it immediately because we don’t really need to because the resistance is pretty minimal at that point. We have to wait on bunkers anyways because we want the honor, if we take aid station in 2 minutes or 5 minutes who cares.

Yep, by that point alliance know they aren’t getting south easily as horde rez and defend the IWB choke. So fighting to defend the base is just delaying the game for no good reason. It’s only when SPGY fully caps that they will get south and an offensive push at that point is probably not going to get far before the base falls.

It’s part map, part queues, part faction focus on PVP, part apathy, and so on. One thing is for sure is that it’s not going to spontaneously correct itself like Blizzard seems to be hoping, unless something is done it’s probably going to continue to get worse.

I agree. I meant to make that a separate point, actually.

Horde in AV are mostly from pvp servers, alliance in AV are mostly carebears. Horde cares about honor and winning, Alliance only cares about max rep for rewards. Two polar opposite playstyles showing how small the percentage of pvp players are on alliance.

It’s not an exaggerated statement at all. It’s speaking of potential and since every battle at IBGY will not be the same, it does matter. You’re just fixated on that number and completely ignored the rest of my comment. I never said that one factor was the issue, but it is part of it.

But everyone with some sense knows what the actual problem is. Vast majority of the time any horde is yammering on about alliance sucking they are just trolling.

You do know there are other AV games, right? Not just the one you are in.

I dont give a sh1t, I dont play AV anymore. Enjoy the long queues.

My point was that since I’ve been playing AV for about ~4 weeks now it’s never happened to me, I didn’t just play one game and say “Hurrdurr this is how it works”. Maybe the Alliance sees more variety because of being able to queue more frequently, but I assume I would have seen something different over the course of the 20-30 games I’ve played since. Sure, there are some people that will backdoor, but it’s not some massive force of our team.

And honestly never have I been part of a game where we backdoor’d for some sort of 10 man Vann kill. It’s always been a very small group that will try to cap some bunkers and cause the Alliance to come back to defend which helps the push. I’ve seen them assault aid station, but they usually don’t keep it.

In 2006 I played alliance, we won almost all games. But we played defense a lot. Horde couldn’t pass bridge of death.

Today it’s different, alliance are lazy, they don’t defend and lose. It’s like a soccer game, without goalie you will lose every time. Alliance players today not smart.

Wonder why that guy posted on a lv14 Orc Hunter. Nice, troll.

He is lotus spotter. I play horde now to change things up.

I do miss west fall and elvin forest, those were my favorite zones.

This happens after rep turn ins for the druids are complete. At that point there is nothing left to gain from extending the amount of time in the bg.

AB alliance are at 50%, WSG alliance are at 50%, AV alliance are at 1%. You tell me, you think the alliance are just bad or there are bigger issues going on with AV?
