This sounds more like the solution. Because remember, it was said, Blood Elves were initially given to the Horde because “people wanted a pretty race”.
The SC that is apart of Dalaran? That Silver Covenant?
So, point out where the Horde can gain reputation and really interact with the Silver Covenant?
Because last time I checked, Vareesa hates the horde so much, and she is still the leader of the Silver Covenant.
"The Silver Covenant is a militant core of high elves that reject the admission of blood elves into the Kirin Tor. They have united under the banner of Vereesa Windrunner and joined the Alliance Vanguard to oppose the Lich King.
The Covenant control the Alliance district of Dalaran, the Silver Enclave. The guards they employ are Silver Covenant Guardian Mages, who will expel Horde players once they get too close to the Alliance district."
EDIT: Oh wait, you’re using Fyre’s fanfiction to fuel your headcanon.
Yeah I actually pointed out some draenei styles somewhere above all the arguing as well as the KT and male human styles that I like for VE. As for changing them, I think the braid that draenei have could be double braids, one on each side for a VE pigtail option (I dont think VE even have a “pigtail” option, do they? So many races have one).
I agree with this. I saw someone make the point earlier in another thread that if there was no significance to the Silver Covenant or for the High Elf identity within the Alliance, then the term would have been retired by now, but it hasn’t been.
Blood elves are still referred to as blood elves and high elves as high elves. It’s pretty straightforward unless people want to muddy the water for some construed and unclear rationale.
And yes, void elves are a third splinter of these groups that seem to incorporate both high elves and blood elves, but they are still void elves. If a blood elf player or a void elf player wants to identify as a high elf and have their own head canon, have at it! That’s what the game is for.
But trying to keep one from having the other is too silly to talk about in my opinion, yet we always see this debate erupt.
If Void Elves get the rest of the Blood Elf options, then give Blood Elves the rest of the Void Elf options. ez pz. it won’t make sense and no one will be happy, but ez pz.
Dalaran and Kirin Tor are two different things .
It makes more sense for a race persecuted by one renegade commander to ally with the byproduct of those who committed genocide upon them (the Scourge) and races as physically distant as possible from them? Pray tell how?
A separate faction with a subtly very threatening non-aggression treaty would make the most sense, but in the end the only solutions possible here are the two obvious gameified ones: Alliance, or Horde. Even then, however, the Alliance would have been the more obvious choice for purposes of defense. The lands of the only distant Alliance member, the Night Elves, provided little incursive foothold in Kalimdor, but were at the time near impossible to take, whereas the lands of only nearby Horde member, the Forsaken, at the time held on a knife’s edge compared to the rapidly rebuilding Eastern Kingdom nations. Even considering the slight increase in proximity, that’s not a worthwhile partner in defense compared to what the otherwise whole of the Eastern Kingdoms could offer. (It wouldn’t be the first reluctant rejoinder, either; the Gilneans and Kul’tirans each had their own reasons for leaving the Alliance and, lore-wise, were not easily called back.) Heck, just look at how many went back with the Alliance anyways: the Sunstriders didn’t form until well after the Silver Covenant, in which Elven members continued their posts regardless, and Kirin Tor only much later even recognized the political split.
I heard a rumor that hasn’t been verified as far as I know that stated that BE were originally going to just be common NPC enemies and all pretty much just like Kael’s followers or whatever before they became playable, but I have no clue if its true.
It sort of rings true to me though, considering they allegedly have ideas in mind ahead of time (like next expansion is already being worked on as we speak).
So maybe HE were always going to clash with BE as far as story goes, but maybe BE weren’t always going to be playable. Or maybe BE were thought up as playable and it unfolded the way that it did because of that decision.
Regardless, the contrast is very apparent whether Blizz wants to admit it or not.
Jeff Kaplan wants to have a word with you.
One reason for the Blood Elves choice was obviously looks. You’d be amazed how many people will not play the Horde based purely on the fact that they’re monstrous. So by giving an attractive race to the Horde, we feel like we’re opening a whole new part of the game to the people who wouldn’t experience that half of the game.

Oh wow that’s interesting an unverified rumor that is inherently anti BE, being told to us by someone who has not shown much love for BEs.
What ‘signs’ are you referring to?
I know. That falls in line with what I’m saying.
So we had vanilla, right? Then BC when BE and Draenei came out. The theory I mentioned is that BC was probably thought about long before it came out. Not fleshed out of course, but what would have happened if new races weren’t going to be implemented in BC?
I do love the blood elves in all honestly. They have this awesome and fun snooty attitude in their voice overs, they live in a freaking enchanted forest that houses a massive magical city, they have beautiful hairstyles and eyes, a super crazy cool revenge plot story arc and a history so developed it rivals every other bit of lore in the game.
Blood elves ARE awesome. One of my friends is actually huge blood elf fan, but he made a void elf to play this expansion with us and he just couldn’t get into it. His exact words were “blood elves just hit differently”, and I agree, they definitely do and it’s not just their hair colour or hair styles that make them like that.
I just don’t think blood elves as a playable race are diminished by having playable high elf looking void elves on the Alliance.
I think Ion is either having selective memory about the game or truly doesn’t know/remember how integrated High Elves have been in the Alliance since Ion has been a Horde player. In the Q&A when he said the High Elves are basically non-existent I first chuckled at the ludicrous statement and then sat baffled as the man in charge of the game I love so much either completely spaced out or has very large gaps of memory.
I can think of multiple instances in Wrath alone of the Silver Covenant interacting with the Alliance, and anyone who flys by the Argent Tournament in Icecrown would be able to quickly counter Ion. You might defend Ion by saying he wasn’t a Blizzard guy back then or a high ranking one but he was over game design in Legion when the Elisande interaction (which has been mentioned by lots of other people) choose the High Elves to be distinct enough to be singled out when giving her speech at the gates of Nighthold and the High Elves having a respectable presence in the siege camp.
I’m an High Elf fanboy that has wanted to play them forever, but I do get annoyed and pissed when people who have such direct control over the development of the game have a clear bias or are out of touch to what the players feel is the narrative of the game. I have a deep care for the lore of the game. High Elves have been around throughout the Alliance’s progression Ion, don’t kid yourself otherwise.
Coming from someone who has no real perspective about BE’s and just makes anything up along the way.
Ion has always been a Horde player. He hasn’t even touched an Alliance toon once at all. I mean, where do you think “Elitist Jerks” come from?
This is just my humble prediction, but based on the fact that they gave void elves natural skin tones, and natural blue eyes during the core race customization pass. Then later a developer referred to them as ‘high elf options’. I think it’s more than likely we’ll see those types of options further developed when the allied races get a customization pass.
Just my very humble two cents.
The void elves have only 1 new hairstyle- bald
That is not a new hairstyle. That is just a hair clippers gone overdrive.
