Just say you got it at the gift shop.
Or some dwarf could have made a blade that looks like it, keeping it at the level of the other inert relicsā¦or they can put it on the trading post and players can make their own headcanons for its origins.
Letās go back to that world where the Lich King won and we steal his sword after heās dead.
If I wanted a sword, I would go for an Elf, not a dwarf.
A stretch here but they could make a quest where we take the prince blades and reforge it back to look like Frostmourne lol. If it was to be available, Iād still like it to be dk specific, so we can keep some sort of class fantasy still alive. Seeing other classes with it would ruin that. But itās whatever blizz wants to do.
Then make it an elf thats not important, actually no make it an earthen to do it just to tick people off.
Shadow Lands didnt just work Arthas over, it also pinched one out on Forstmorne. Itās not the mysterious cursed blade responsible for the collapse of basically every civilization north of the Thandol Span.
Now itās just a āmornbladeā. One of many. Standard issue, really. The sort of thing you find in the hands of every faceless Jailor mook. The Jailor just whips up a fresh (and better) one mid-conversation. He wasnāt even concentrating. So just give it to the player.
Theyāve already put out a DK specific set of weapons.
Why not let other classes have it?
āHogger threw it over his shoulder while he was running as fast as his peggly little legs could carry him andā¦ wellā¦ Itās frostmourne I just had to pick it up!ā
āā¦and then I saw it had a noggenfogger novelty shop stamp on the hilt.ā
Whoās this noggifrogger and why is he stepping on my turf? Guess Iāll have to go feed his soul to my maw of the damnedā¦oh wait i was forced to use that to fix the dang planet.
Because it cheapens class fantasy. Give me Ashbringer, oh wait. I wouldnāt want it anyways because Iām not a pally! Classes should keep their class fantasy weapons, it makes classes unique.
If you want a wallhanger of the ashbringer then youāre more then welcome to have it.
Edit: That having been said itās not really a good comparison, since Frostmourne has never actually been used by a player and has to the best of my knowledge no actual āstatsā nor has it been wielded by an actual in game class: the only person to ever handle it was Arthas who was a paladin when he got his hands on it and used it to murder a dreadlord that had been trolling him.
A better comparison would have been something like the sword of Sargeras.
I think that makes it even more class specific and more iconic. Since it was Arthas the Lich king death knight who wielded it.
However itās more about look of the sword on a death knight.
What hurts my argument is that they made Frostmourne into the prince blades dual wielding weapons. Which kinda sucks because it makes Frostmourne no more, but the look would be awesome!
I think it would look good on any class that can wield swords; like we have a plethora of armor sets that it would fit with that are available across all 4 armor types.
And beyond that, I simply donāt see why it should be made a DK weapon only since the one weād be getting isnāt actually frostmourne, and also the implication with this would be that the other classes would all be in line for other Iconic weapons that very likely donāt actually exist given that they gave us everything they could in Legion to say nothing of how the Iconic items would need to account for Spec (A prot warrior canāt wield a 2 hander and an arms warrior canāt use a one hander) leading to a ridiculously massive number of new items that would need to be added in.
Itās easier, cleaner and smarter to just give it to everyone.
The wiki does have a picture of a file that has stats that was allegedly taken from the game, though they seem more like a meme than real if it was true.
What they should of done was scrap the prince blades lore and make a different lore around Frostmourne in Legion so we could of had the appearance. I think DKās would of liked that more. Frostmourne should of been a legion artifact.
Except the sword was already shattered and everything surrounding it made it clear that wielding it would have been a long term disaster for all involved.
They should of made the appearance at least in legion.
They should have just put it up on the Trading post.
I think you made me realize why we havenāt gotten it. Saying how it wouldnāt be immersive seeing everyone running around with it. The devs might feel the same but being even stingier. They could feel that its Arthasās sword and that they think it wouldnāt be immersive to have anyone else running around with it.
I actually wouldnāt mind a 2 handed ābrokenā appearance of frostmourne. So blizz could hold on to whatever it is that stops them from releasing the actual appearance, but give us one thatās notched and scarred with chunks missing, and maybe some energy graphics flowing out from the cracks and such.
Just the appearance, no actual power enhancing item.
