We’ll have you tried googling mtx market demographics or Doritos/mountain dew demographics? I bet you can even correlate the data.
Im not into theoretical numbers friend. lol.
Show the verifiable data or admit that you dont actually know where the sub count is
please tell me THIS isnt gonna be some inane detail that youre gonna expect me to go back and forth with you for a week…let me know so I can figure out if I need to put you on ignore sooner than later.
Apologies for necroing a dead thread, but I’d just like to point out that, in no way, has P2W ever actually meant “winning.” P2W has always been specifically about paying for an advantage to win or the convenience of not having to grind for something. It doesn’t always mean you will win. It just means you’re skipping all of the crap in-between.
There are ways the brutosaur mount could be viewed as P2W, in that manner. Having access to an AH wherever you go is a huge boon because it means you don’t have to disrupt your gameplay to travel back to town. It’s a more efficient means of making gold, AKA making gold faster, which is kind of the core currency of this game if you want to do anything.
People who pay for the mount will undoubtedly benefit in ways others who haven’t will not.
…
P2W is literally the short form of ‘pay to win’.
Winning is literally in the name. That’s what the W stands for.
And ‘pay to win’ has always been associated with being able to pay for an advantage, often powerful advantages that give you a competitive edge over players without the cash to burn.
The Brutosaur being able to access the AH wherever you want is realistically no different than Engineers getting access to an AH in previous expansion cities while other players had to go back to Stormwind or Orgrimmar. It’s convenience, nothing more. There is no power advantage to be gained from it, so there is no ‘pay to win’.
I run a lot of content and I never see anyone riding this thing
Hell the only time I use mine is a matter of pure convenience. And most the time I am literally like feet from the auctioneer building.
Buy it or don’t buy it, no one cares
Okay, so do you think a person who buys P2W items is automatically going to win?
The answer is no, because P2W systems are designed so that people continue shelling out the money time and time again. If they could just outright pay once and win every time after, there would be no need for them to ever spend money again, and the monetization system would fall apart.
A more accurate term would be “Pay for the advantage to win”, but that’s a mouthful and not nearly as catchy of an acronym.
You need gold to do anything in this game, between buying consumables, buying gems and enchants, etc. etc. Sometimes, you even need it to buy gear.
That sounds pretty P2W to me if I could just buy a mount that allows me to make that gold faster than others.
It’s far away from pay to win. But for some people it is I guess. Having access to mail is nothing new, and having access to AH is nothing groundbreaking unless you are hard core auctioneer
As someone who lives to sell crap on the AH, the ONLY thing it does is save me some running time when Im farming.
IF you are that kind of player, then you might ‘need’ the mount…so buy it.
IF you arent that kind of player then you dont ‘need’ it so you might not want to waste the $$$ on it.
The core of this game is combat, not running the AH, which is a secondary thing that some of us enjoy.
You aint winning wow by having more gold…not until they start selling high end M+ gear on the game store or for huge amounts of gold on a vendor.
youre creating a ‘problem’ that does not exist…
If you claim that this mount is pay to win, then buy it and then show us how much you are winning afterward.
I’ll personally be excited to see if you win more then than now.
I’m gonna head down to the Cadillac dealership and complain about how unfair it is that people who have more money can buy a better car. This logic will blow their mind and they will be forced to sell a new Cadillac for the same price as a 1982 Honda Civic that’s been in 3 accidents, has a salvage title, one non-working door and wont go in reverse.
Edit: Oh, and the gas cap is missing but was replaced with a dirty rag.
Most players play the auction house. Some are more active on it than others, but it’s the most effective way of obtaining gold in this game barring paying for a WoW token. It is difficult to keep up with the rising costs of items on the AH without using it.
Actually, the core of this game is being an MMO, and an auction house driven by players is a significant part of that. It’s strange to downplay that.
uh…tell me ANYTHING you do to interact with this game outside of farming nodes and crap that DOESNT come back to fighting something in combat.
even farming old raids you end up killing stuff…even QUESTING in this MMO requires combat. lol
The core of this MMO is combat…as proven by the fact that everything we do is pointing us towards gearing up.
that said…IF this AH mount is so critical then buy it.
Seems like a simple enough choice
And how, exactly, do you gear up in this game?
by playing the game…questing gear…running dungeons…LFR…raids…
how do YOU gear up? lol? Buying inferior gear on the AH?
i can bet it’ll go on discount by the end of the year
Geonn with the repeated L takes.
Give it up already.
Yep, that’s one part of the gearing process.
There’s also obtaining enchantments, gems for socketing, and consumables. When you level an alt, you are more than likely heading straight to the AH at level 80 to buy the best gear available because it’s far more efficient to do so than to run dungeons lower than mythic.
All of these things require gold, and it can get pretty expensive to do all of it without playing the auction house. So unless you’re buying WoW tokens, the auction house is the most effective way to make money, and having access to that auction house wherever you are is a crazy boon.
me? hardly.
I use AH pieces IF they are VERY cheap and ONLY to fill a last slot or two until I get a replacement.
No way Im wasting good gold on buying a set of low rent AH gear at ANY level of play.
Example…I have a hunter locked at level 61. I can solo classic era dungeons with him so its really nice.
What drops is 338 gear a that level.
NOTHING on the AH comes close to the gear that drops in dungeons as far as stats…even if its higher Ilvl.
In current content its the same thing…gear you get playing the game is better than AH crap, again, except if youre just filling in a few gaps till you get replacements.
I’ll say it again, though…since you think the mount is such a game maker…then buy it.
They ARENT gonna remove it…its here to stay. So you either complain about it…or you buy it and get whatever advantage you think it brings.
Feel free to explain why I’m wrong. I explained my logic pretty clearly, and these sorts of remarks are only indicative of people incapable of offering a counterargument.
you can only buy it up to january 6th
