Blizzard really wasn’t fond of transmogging either even though it has been pretty much universally popular and they have finally caved in and will be opening up every transmog slot to being hidden except pants. This is purely due to popular demand and a very bad year of PR for blizzard.
Also I really wouldn’t be surprised if they announced that the High Elves would finally be taking their rightful place in the Alliance and will become playable somehow in either next expansions prepatch, or at the start of next expansion. It’s just so damn popular. There’s so much public support for it and the community has already done so much of the work for Blizzard for free. This is a real labor of love when you see just how much effort has gone into the High Elf playable race movement.
Just because Blizzard has been stubborn for years doesn’t mean they won’t open their eyes eventually and see how much money they can make off of a wildly popular idea like real playable High Elves, not blood elves turned void elves who were never really high elves because the High Elves never became Blood Elves in the first place yatta yatta yatta…
Blizzard really wasn’t fond of transmogging either
Where is your evidence to support this? Why would they be against transmogging with all the content and gear they make for us to wear?

High elves, Ogres, Eredar, Jinyu, Naga, Arakoa and many others. Just because it is popular, doesn’t mean that it will happen. And there are a lot of people that want Gilgoblins. A common myth people from the Vulpera community like to spread is that nobody wants them.
Next thing is Mechagnomes. I can tell you right now that the majority of people don’t want them, and blizzard may get more money by having Set’trak or Jinyu in their place, but this is very unlikely. Blizzard has said before, that lore and relevance in the most important thing. And we are going to be heading into an deep sea zone.

They have said that they consider blood elves to be the high elves solution and there are already 4 types of elves. 6 if you count demon hunters. What is more likely is extra custom options for existing elves.
Next thing is that there has been a lot more support for Gilgoblins and it is continuing to grow. As Nazjatar process you will see even more of it.
If you really dont know how much blizzard didn’t want us to be able to transmog I’m not wasting my time to fill you in on the last 8 years or however long it’s been since we got transmogging.
You need to think for yourself online and question things for yourself don’t just sit there and try and act like I’m obligated to write an entire essay and source everything in it like a professional academic.

What exactly do you mean by blizzard hates transmogging? As a whole they can’t hate transmogging otherwise, they wouldn’t have a transmog system to begin with. Specifically what aspect of it and what seems to have indicated this?
Based on the Female Gilblins from the 8.2 PTR they don’t seem to be setting them up as a Allied race. The Texture and Mesh of the Female Gilblins is the same quality as the current goblin model.
Why make them that way if they are just going to update the Goblin model in the very next patch and have to upgrade the Gilblin model to be on par with the HD goblin model, or not and have Gilblins players waiting on a update some time in the future
There is an HD Gilgoblin in one of the Nazjatar previews.
Notice how the Polygons are nicely smoothed out.
Dark Irons didn’t get an HD model until they become playable and when they did it extended to the npcs.
Historically whenever a race gets model updates, the model updates extend to npcs except in older areas. This happened with Blood elf, orc, gnomes and other similar ones.
Other races of the unshackled since that preview have gotten updates.
Zoom down to Makura here and you will see it has an updated model.
All this put together and this is almost certainly that they will get model updates. More likely with the main model goblin updates come or if Gilgoblins become playable.
Honestly, I still find Gilblins way more unlikely than Vulpera for a multitude of reasons.
1.) While there is some desire for them, I think it’d be REALLY hard to say with a straight face that there’s more than Vulpera, and very much so, it seems that most people desire them only when compared to Vulpera being the only other likely option for a small-sized horde allied race.
2.) While having a few different customization options, they have far fewer than Vulpera, and despite ‘just’ being given a Female model after being a male-exclusive race for years, the females only have one face and hair option.
3.) I’d say that the ‘hype’ for Gilblins would be on the level of the near-identical Allied races. IE, Lightforged Draenei, or Highmountain Tauren. that being not all that much, especially as, (let’s be frank) they don’t have the aesthetic appeal that makes races like Void Elves, Light Forged, or Nightborne appeal. (Rhymes with Lex For real)
On a similar note. I’m not terribly convinced that Mechagnomes are the option here either, nor the new Jinyu-esque race. Honestly, I’m stumped for what the Alliance might get when the Horde most-likely get Vulpera.
Lightforged? Probably, Kul’tirans? I don’t think so.
But regardless of hype, there’s a decent amount of LF Draenei, simply because they’re Draenei.
I’d bet against any new Allied races being Druids, I imagine the Zandalari and KT druid forms took up way more dev time than they intended Allied races to take.

Just like Mechagnomes? If blizzard caved to every popular request, then this game wouldn’t have goblins, gnomes dwarves and pandas. In fact, it would probably be world of elf craft. Lore>Relevancy>AR formula>popularity. Popularity should never be used to debate their chance of happening.

2.1 I’ll bet you lots of people would play them, if they gave them the bioluminescent hair and some decent lore and relatable characters.
2.2 Keep in mind that Dark Irons didn’t get an HD model until they become playable.
2.3 There is an HD goblin in the Nazjatar preview
Notice the smoothed out polygons.
2.4 The model updates are planned for 8.2.5 and historically whenever there are model updates, these extend to npcs.
2.5 Gilgoblin males have more animations than Vulpera do. When Gilgoblin female come out, they will be ahead of Vulpera in animation count.
Side by side comparison of Gilgoblin male and Vulpera male animations.

This is how the AR system works. This is why they use races that are similar in nature. If this didn’t happen, we wouldn’t be getting as many races.
Blizzard doesn’t ‘always’ cave in to popular requests. But they ‘usually’ do in a lot of ways. Quite a few people at least wanted Pandarens and monks in the game, even if they didn’t necessarily want playable pandas.
I find it HILARIOUS that you think lore is the prevalent factor here, considering you play a race that literally says there’s money to be had in dealing with the elemental forces of nature whom have no need or concept of money.
You could say this about literally any currently existing race, or future races. Making races appealing makes people want to play them. Yes.
Why exactly would Gillies have these? What possibly good characters, from-lore could they have? You’d have to make entirely new characters and characterization as they’re a very ‘new’ race in-lore.
My main point in comparing them to Vulpera is with how much attention was given to a Race with barely any content whatsoever, compared to what’s basically a flagship reputation race for a new patch. And you point it out here yourself, a vast majority of the new Gillies stuff is probably because they’re reworking Goblin models anyway.
Compare the breadth of assets here. A large part of Vulpera’s animations wouldn’t be easily and directly copied from Goblins like it can with gillies. Given their much different head shape, tails, and ears. If Vulpera aren’t coming out immediately, yet Gillies need to be up to snuff for 8.2, it makes sense why they have more game-ready animations applied.
Is it how it works? Yeah, a bit. But on the same token, what people actually value in Allied races is basically 2 things.
1.) Does it happen to be a race that person already wanted?
2.) In what ways is it actually different?
People like Void Elves because it’s a BE model for alliance players, yet hate them because it’s a new race and people probably wanted high elves over them.
People like Zandalari because it’s a long request AND they have really cool new druid forms and a much different silhouette.
People like Nightborne on the face of it, because they look really different. Yet pretty much any Nightborne player can tell you how much they hate how rushed they are, every time the model shows how closely tied to the Night Elf base it really is.
Beyond all this, I just don’t think Gillies are very likely, ESPECIALLY compared to Vulpera.
Nor do I think Mechagnomes are set in stone, but I’m at a loss as to what other race the Alliance would possibly get at this point.
I am all debated out for tonight. I’ll give you a dedicated response tomorrow, but I do genuinely want Gilgoblins. Mechagnome fans have things lucky in that respect that there isn’t many other likely competing ARs for short spot. However I want you to know I don’t hate Vulpera or the people who want them. I think they would be a great race tbh. I just would rather something more goblin like since the trend with ARs has been races of the same racial type and similar nature and I think Gilgoblins could be really neat if done right.
