Gilblins as new allies?/The Unshackled?

I would assume they are using the same models as the Goblins.

Please god no this is why 90% of the new armor and weapons are ugly its because of working on un interesting things like these water goblins

They could always go ‘Lol JK, Sand Gnomes/Leper Gnomes!’.

Many of the arguments put forth in support of Vulpera have a lot a lot more of"I want this it must happen" than"this is actually grounded in fact". There were a lot of straight up false rumors being straight about things that supposedly proves Vulpera will be an allied race that have since been debunked.

While I do so adore the Vuplera loves, and foxes in general, I myself would much rather have Gilgoblins first. Goblins as a race and culture and fairly unique in WoW, the standard fantasy settings depicts them usually as witless savages; not so when in comes to WoW.

Intelligent (on-par with Gnomish), suave and mercantile, with a dash of adaptability and fun for profit. Now, add gills, webbed feet, an entire under-water culture and appropriate thematic gear, mounts and heritage armour.

I’d argue even further. With the goblin model update, both male and female are arguably getting new models with new rigging. They’d just have to do a few changes to make a Gilgoblin for both males and females.

Because of that, I welcome our new Gilgoblin allies.

And I need to say, about the Undead allied race, I wonder if we’d be getting undead elves…they already have those drugged elves that have the Undead male model but with elf ears, so I just always wondered.

Indeed and there has been an HD Gilgoblin seen in some Nazjatar previews. Dark irons also didn’t get an HD model till they become playable and the other members of the unshackled got model updates.

Here’s the problem. I studied the female gilblin race, and it really is the same ‘low res’ model as the female goblin in game now. And studying the male Gilblin model in the preview, its the same ‘low res’ model as the male goblin model in game now. They’re high res only when compared to the current in game gilblin model

I mean, I hope you’re right in that they’ll be sorta ‘place models’ before they become playable. I’d love to play a gilblin.

It is possible that they could be a work in progress. After all. The Nazjatar preview has only been out for about a week. Vulpera when they were first found had very simple low res models with simple animations, but then they added more later. Also note:

This is the HD Gilgoblin I was talking about. Not these:

Notice how in the first ones, the polygons are very nicely smoothed out. And it is also worth noting that sea giants and Makura have gotten model updates:

Zoom down and check the sea giants and Makura.

If they got model updates, Gilgoblins almost certainly will.

I’d watch closely was 8.2.5 approaches since this is when Blizzard announced the time of the goblin model updates.

That is actually the model I was referring to which is why I’m a tad worried. If you look at the eyes, hands and feet, they’re similar to the current ‘low res’ goblin model in game. The eyes being static, the nails on the hands and feet being very flat. It’s possible that they’ll get updated on 8.2.5 with the goblins and this is just laying down the ground work, but still. Updated from what’s currently in game now, bit still on par with the current goblin model

Looking at the female model is especially obvious just by looking at the eyes in wowheads model viewer.

Again, I’m hoping, really hoping that they’ll get updated along with the goblin models and Bam, playable race, but it almost seems counterintuitive.

Though unlikely this expansion. I hope they add bioluminescent fins and eyes to Gilgoblins if they become playable at some point. Male Gilgoblins already have this to a degree with eyes and teeth. They have glowing blue eyes and teeth.

Wanna know what’d make them incredible in my opinion? If the fins glowed ever so slightly brighter with certain attack animations. Kinda like how the elves ears move a bit with certain attacks.

Lets just hope mechagnomes are water proof or not…

Nazjatar nears closer and more footage has surfaced of the Gilgoblins. According to Gilblin(The user), these goblins seem to be about average intelligence, but not incredibly dumb.

I mean that argument dosen’t work that well, we have fought enemy Zandalari before they came out as a playable AR. There’s just alot of proof both Vulpera and Gilblins can be an option for the goblins, whats wrong with more options? Nothing. Nothing at all.

Although I think Gilgoblins would be a great race, I don’t think that anything we see on npcs at this point in time can and should be treated as something that guarantees these will happen. I used to take it that way a bit more. However what ends up being the allied races next expansion could be something we have not seen yet or is very obscure at this time.

That being said, I love it that they have expanded the story for these Gilgoblins and I think the voice acting for these Gilgoblins is very nice.

Gilgoblins/mechagnomes definitely feel like the most likely ARs. The female gilgoblin model pretty much seals the deal, as far as I can tell.

I don’t see gilgoblins and vulpera both being playable though.

Personally I think many people don’t give Gilgoblins enough credit. Gilgoblins in my opinion would be a great as an AR especially considering we don’t have an aquatic race yet. Just imagine if these guys can be druids. Plus they seem a lot more compassionate than typical goblin.

I don’t see gilgoblins and vulpera both being playable though.

This is something that doesn’t exactly sit well with a lot of people. Vulpera supporters in particular seem to feel convinced that Vulpera will be an AR. These days I don’t like to treat these appearance of these npcs as sure fire proof that they will be an AR, but non the less I do like them.

Tell that to High Elves, Ogres, Tusskar, and Naga. Oh wait you can’t they aren’t playable. But plenty popular.

This is true. Ogres even have their own custom dances. I feel I should also point out though that Gilgoblin models have 281 animations each(male and female). Vulpera males and females have 135 animations each. The main goblin model has 289. So in reality Vulpera would need a heck of a lot of work done on them to be ready to be played. If you need me to link sources for this I can do so.

Second thing is that there is a very high chance Gilgoblins will also get model updates. We should keep an eye out for when the PTR hits alpha. You see Vulpera didn’t get a lot of their custom animations and improved models until PTR hit alpha. Next thing also is that historically when player models get updated, this extends to their variants. Leper gnomes got model updates when gnomes got their models updated.
