Ghostcrawler Says Forum Critics are Wrong

Sorry, but I don’t think that is the case. Granted, I haven’t logged in for a while and don’t intent to so I haven’t paid THAT much attention. But the new traits aren’t going to be spec defining by any means.

I mean mechanically. For example, Glacial Contagion is being tossed out for a mini Frostwyrm’s fury.

I’m not a great analyst of this kind of stuff I just report what I noticed and what was said. Maybe they’ll work better, maybe not, we’ll have to see.

And dont make the mistake of taking my comment as fact. I am purposefully out of the loop. Was just passing on what I remember hearing.

Fair. Both in the same position then; don’t shoot the messenger lol

thats about as boring as BFA =p

Hey now I’m enjoying myself.

But opinions and all. I know the forums are where they go to die but still.

I think it is a good idea to look at why people fondly remember legion. If you ask many who say this, I doubt they will say they enjoyed legiondary drop system, or how absurdly alt-unfriendly it was early on.

What they will probably say is that their spec/classes felt complete with the artifact traits, and now they feel weaker/less enjoyable without them. Many, like myself, went through legion believing that once it was over, we’d keep those traits somehow. This optimism kept a lot of us going, but when the truth came out and the artifacts were taken away with only a select few abilities/passives being kept, it jaded many of us.

That’s part of the reason why the current azerite system just does not feel thrilling. What’s the point when even the cool traits are just borrowed power that won’t stay with us? It’s like renting class abilities for an expansion, rather than the class being full and entirely complete on itself regardless of azerite, artifact, or PvP toggle.

If I went into legion knowing how it would end, I probably would’ve been as unimpressed and uncompelled as I am with BfA. That’s not to say all of BfA is bad, some parts of it are even significant improvements over legion, but it’s more of a “I know how this turns out, so why bother?”

The way I understand it is that they swap powers around constantly to keep a class from getting ‘stale’ but personal opinion says is just a cover for not having to come up with compelling class mechanics that slowly mature as time goes on and dealing with an absolutely ancient game engine.

Honestly, if posts like this are reflective of the attitude of developers and just isn’t your own opinion… that says more about the state of the game than anything else.

That’s because despite its faults, Legion ultimately was a good expansion. We can criticize parts of it yet still like it. In fact, that was my attitude toward every expansion other than WoD & BFA, which are widely considered bad expansions.

BFA is a revolting asset flip or regression of an expansion from a systems point of view, the majority of its content was poorly written (from an Alliance point of view) and it falls into the WoD trap of “there’s nothing worth doing other than logging in on raid night.”

Legion got some flak because of some flawed systems in a good expansion, hence in hindsight, it’s problems didn’t interfere with its legacy. BFA will not be fondly remembered as a good expansion. It will be remembered as the worst product your company has ever produced, at least until Diablo Immortal.

All I take from what GC said is that people who don’t like your designs are more vocal about it than people who do.

That’s all true and I suspect you’ll find that in life when you do something people like they’re far kinder to you than when you do something they don’t like. One of those things is being critical about what other people do.

It’s a tough job but someone has to do it. No better a person than someone who actually pays for the product.

That’s kind of interesting as an opinion, but I do remember a few years around here of people hating on the major systems that made Legion what it is. So it’s definitely a point of view thing. And as the Yak stated, it’s pretty much par for the course around here. We go through this over and over and over again. The only standout for me was really WoD. I have my own reasons for those observations, but the tenor of the forums really hasn’t changed a great deal in over a decade.

It’s hilarious to me to see people praise Legion. That first year of it was nothing but crying and complaints.

I quit World of Warcraft during Ghostcrawler’s tenure. He seemed arrogant and unforgiving. When there were true issues with classes or gameplay, he would suggest that the player was at fault and tell them that maybe they should play another class.

I left the game after Cataclysm, and before MoP. I later read that GC had left Blizzard to move to some mobile gaming company, which amused me, for some unknown reason. I returned to World of Warcraft during the later stages of Legion and have been observing Dev demeanor with a curious eye. I have yet to get the “ghostcrawler” feeling about the current way things are being done. I wasn’t overwhelmed by the greatness of BfA, nor was I underwhelmed by the expansion. I guess I was just “whelmed” – I neither fanboy loved it nor fanboy loathed it, but that’s only six months into the expansion.

Agreed. So why don’t you just release the sub numbers and we can all see how just not terrible the game is doing.

I never said it was the same people. I was commenting on how fast the temperature of the forums can change.

If it’s not the same people though I don’t think it matters. Different people have different complaints every expansion. Sorry, I just don’t get the idea of attributing what part of a community thinks to the community as a whole, and I never will.
