The behavior warning is meant to be just an automated “hey, you should probably chill out”
It is unfortunate that it’s sometimes delayed to the point of not being useful for that purpose.

Behavior warnings are just that - warnings. They usually happen when you’ve been reported by multiple people.
A squelch is an auto-generated action that can result from a “mass-report”. It’s a 24 hour squelch (put in the game to combat spam and gold sellers) and can be in place until a GM reviews the reports and either lifts the silence if nothing wrong was done / said or they will apply an account action if the reports warrant one.
The first account action is a 1 week Silence. Second offense is a 1 week Suspension, and then they escalate from there depending on account history. All account actions remain on the account and never drop off, so if a person doesn’t clean up their act they could potentially receive a full account closure.
As for what constitutes an account action? From the Code of Conduct:
"Communication
When participating in communication of any kind (chat, voice communication, group finder), you are responsible for how you express yourself. You may not use language that could be offensive or vulgar to others.
Hate speech and discriminatory language is inappropriate, as is any obscene or disruptive language. Threatening or harassing another player is always unacceptable, regardless of language used. Violating any of these expectations will result in account restrictions. More serious and repeated violations will result in greater restrictions."
It could be something as simple as calling a person a name to using profanity. ANY profanity is against the rules.
I’ll make this as simple as possible Bensamar. I have no desire to make fun of anyone, but I’ll be happy to bring what clarity I can.
STOP HOLDING COURT IN TRADE CHAT
That isn’t your private chat channel. What I am seeing in these logs belongs in General chat - if at all. I’d also suggest you drop political conversations ingame. I know you are well aware of the rules and penalties, because I see you discussing those as well, IN TRADE CHAT.
Anything can violate TOS if it’s in the wrong place.
Orlyia, why are you awake, and working on Thanksgiving?!
So you’re referring to my silence or the behavior warnings earlier today? Earlier today we were talking about keys, gearing/scaling compared to raiding, and later on we talked about pets and birds as pets. Now this makes even less sense.
As far as the silence goes, I’m responding to people, it’s not a monologue. You know as well as I do that I was arguing with someone who was specifically advocating for me getting silenced… That it’s literally just a popularity contest, and to their glee that was enforced. (Which is absolutely hilarious objectively that you would side with people trying to get someone banned through mass reporting… while we were arguing about being banned by being mass reported)
And, yes, I learned this last two month that politics aren’t against the ToS, but specifically supporting one side and being against another seemingly is. As I’m a centrist and have discussed both sides, I’ve only received behavior warnings when discussing one particular side. You can see from my conversations that I’ve supported both sides off and on. Last two months were very active and wasn’t the only one talking about them, nor was I being super aggressive, dismissive, uncivil, or disrespectful.
That isn’t publicly disclosed, for very interesting reasons. I’m sure everyone here would like to know about the bias associated with how that’s enforced. If all politics were against the ToS it would make a lot more sense, which leaves people to wonder why they aren’t?
Trade is cross-server and everyone uses it for discussion, everyone who plays the game knows this. Why particularly would I be getting actioned for using it when everyone else is using it and is perfectly fine? I’m not spamming skibidi jokes or something either, which I’m sure you’ve looked for… or swearing… or saying super crass things all the time.
So we’re circling back to once again I’m getting behavior warnings because people don’t like me and that’s all it takes now? When you play a game for 20 years, you’ll get people that like and hate you, especially when a server dies out and most normal conversations do. There is almost no one talking on our server, where as if you join something like Mannoroth or other populated realms it’s always popping off.
Yeah, we’re also aware the community contract means anyone can be actioned. However, I thought there was a little more going on here then a mob rule and hoped there would be by discussing it here. A lot of people don’t really understand what this has turned into, since any posts that discuss this either usually get locked or deleted (except for the guy who is screaming obscenities and lying about it). You also can’t discuss them on the subs.
WoW used to be all about being social with people, not locking it down to the point where people need to make alt accounts just to avoid the bad mood of a few foul individuals. At what point does this become abuse of the report system or is that not even a thing anymore?
What is going on here is you are upsetting people and getting reported. The reason the reports were upheld is because YOU ARE IN THE WRONG CHANNEL.
That’s what got your main actioned, and that seems to be what you are continuing to do on the new account.
Stay in General and they can report you all day long, you might get squelched, but unless you break some other code of conduct - you won’t get actioned.
It’s not that difficult.
Edit: Squelched - not silenced, squelches are automatic for a short time till they can get reviewed. Sorry I misspoke
She gave you the heads up keep using trade like you are and next thing will happen is a suspension
Here is the thing, you don’t know if others might of recieved action for using any of the channels in the wrong way. You don’t have access to that sort of logs to say “oh player x has been suspended for talking about this in the trade channel.”
And if you feel someone is using the channels in the wrong way, report the player, let Blizzard deal with it and move on. Don’t risk your account thinking two wrongs can make a right.
This is nothing new. But Blizzard doesn’t just take action against an account for no reason. They have policies that they chose to be followed. We see them as the In-Game Code of Conduct or the End-User License Agreement. But Blizzard would have those policies extended beyond the simpler term to know what is right, and what is wrong. And we even can see those policies through Blizzard Support.
Yes, so there wasn’t a specific reason for it. I was just ‘disliked’ and you are siding with a mob of players because that’s all it takes. It was the ‘wrong channel’, while I carried on a conversation with other people who were also actively talking in the channel. Those players were neither silenced, actioned, nor given a behavior warning as I talked with one in DMs who was saying crass things at the time and was perfectly fine.
Since this is before a jury, would you like to post everything I talked about in Trade today when I received two behavior warnings, so they can see what exactly I said that was outrageous?
Would you care to explain the difference between how I can be silenced, but not actioned? What is the implication of one, but not the other?
So you didn’t actually listen at all whatsoever. Starting to see a theme here. You were reported because you broke the rules governing chat. You signed an agreement to play, didn’t read it at all, and then proceeded to break said agreement and were punished because players reported you for breaking said agreement. I would very strongly suggest stopping poking the panda, because it will not end well for you here.
So just to recap here, the rule I broke was I talked in Trade.
Sorry, I should have said squelched. You’d be squelched.
That is meant primarily for gold spammers until we can get to them, but it works on anything.
This forum isn’t a jury. This is primarily player to player help forum where we jump in if we can. I really can’t improve on the answers you’ve already been given by your peers.
Someone else breaking the rules does not give you license to do so as well.
Mkay, now I know for a fact you’re trolling at this point. I’m done with this. I am too tired and have no patience for it.
Not a jury or trial stop trying to keyboard lawyer. Just keep the chat out of trade!
I’ll just make this perfectly clear:
Everyone, including myself, including the staff of Blizzard Entertainment, everyone is at risk of receiving penalties if choosing to breach any of the policies that we all have agreed too together. Nobody is immune to any form of action if caught breaching any of those policies.
Yes, I see people talking about politics in the trade channel every day. Instead of joining in, I report those players, and move on. Because receiving account penalties are not worth it for breaching the policies.
CS can not see your warnings. Orlyia can not tell you for sure what other players specifically reported you for. She can tell you what the LIKELY reported though because she can see the logs and is trying to tell you what is against the rules and would be reported by others.
If you are reported several times in World of Warcraft for violating the in-game rules, the game will send you a warning letting you know that you will need to be careful or you may get a silence or suspension in game. This is completely automated and cannot be seen or modified by Customer Support. If you receive one of these warnings, it is recommended that you make sure you are adhering to the In-Game Code of Conduct.
If you see others also breaking the rules, you can always report them. Blizzard is not going to tell you what the outcome is of those reports. You have no idea what happens to others.
It is a lot like speeding. Just because others don’t get caught does not get you out of a ticket when you are.
I agree, but I would assume the actions and implications would be imposed on all equally. If I can’t talk about politics - politics aren’t allowed. If I can’t talk about stuff in trade that isn’t trade related - others can’t either. It’s the whole point of having a governing system that’s fair and just, when you have rules that apply to all instead of just applying to people whom others hate. It literally turns a defensive system designed to protect people into a weapon to used against and harass people, as is currently happening here.
You’ve been around the forums awhile and I assume you’re a high ranking CSR. The Community Guidelines weren’t always this extreme and you have to understand how ridiculous this looks to anyone familiar with a healthy social atmosphere. Trade in almost every populated server is used communally as a chatroom and everyone views it that way, I’d even wager that’s why the services channel was created.
Sometimes people actually need to see the writing on the wall to see how bad this has gotten.
I knew I was going to get dogpiled by opening this here, as everyone does that opens posts on the CSR forum that might remotely be in the wrong, but hoped someone might actually see it in a higher ranking position and possibly look at the harm the community contract has been doing.
People shouldn’t be afraid to talk, while following the ToS, at risk of losing their 20 year old account.
But you aren’t following the TOS, Bensamar.
The fact others may not be as well, doesn’t mean you are ok to do it.
We don’t ‘monitor’ chat. We react to reports. If someone else gets reported for the same thing, the exact same rules apply.
I have zero fear of talking and know that nothing will happen to me. I don’t try to discuss things in Trade that I know are going to get me reported though.
Just like I don’t speed then get surprised that I get a ticket.
The rules are enforced equally if people are also reported. Blizzard does not actively go LOOKING for violations. They have always relied on player reports.
Stop doing whatever got you reported and maybe follow the advice you were given.
If others are chating there report them. Do not join in. Unless you want to start up the suspension ladder
