This just proofs that some of you don’t care about caster and just want a melee based game and which it won’t be for like I don’t know in the near term or foreseeable future.
Get rid of standing in DND and make it function more akin to WC3.
Whilst I appreciate that the San’layn talents are true to lore, the other Death Knight hero talents are too bland and wishy-washy. Rider of the Apocalypse and Deathbringer offer little to draw upon themes established by the Arthas, the Lich King, and hero classes in WC3.
Taking a few titles from Death Knight NPCs is not on the same as choosing true themes such as Dark Ranger.
The player is the Deathlord of the Ebon Blade - why do we have Rider of the Apocalypse instead?
The Lich King and Arthas is relevant to both specs, so why do we get Deathbringer? There is no lore to even suggest what it is thematically besides Saurfang who uses blood.
Death Knights deserve to be as equally thematic as other specs. The lore is literally right there. Failure to use it or not create new lore to explain these vague roles will be an injustice.
These look pretty cool but I would of liked to of seen at least one preview for every class, hopefully that will come soon enough though.
Lightsmith already needs to be changed.
Lightwell mechanics are bad and will always be bad. Please don’t do this.
These hero talents are supposed to be passive and are supposed to be bland so that it doesn’t cause any problems and or button bloat but clearly some of you want even more buttons and or complicated things when there are people are already clamoring on how the game is a complicated mess.
When my rogue can transmog warglaives of azzinoth you can have it.
its basically just a haste buff and a pet (likely a blood blob). D3 does so much more with blood skills, id love something like that
Well…the paladin one is garbage. Having to actually walk over those “armaments” is just…garbage design.
Then why DO THEM lol
We have enough bland things in this game.
Or do you like consuming next product and praising anything Blizzard does that you are even justifying what blatantly is artifact weapon talents 3.0 or something, I lose count.
I think the main thing is theme atm and how the basic functionality of the new hero spec looks. Some are talking about just the idea of standing in DND and this is good feedback as well.
Balance can be done later, but the idea here is in general to crank things up a notch. We’re basically becoming hero classes to some degree by further specializing with unique capabilities. It’s okay to be and feel a bit op in some ways imo.
The main idea here is does this look fun and interesting in how it is designed and the options given?
If they were smart they would stay on the safe side and not go overboard and cause a mess that they themselves don’t want.
RIP Warriors who wanted Blademaster themes.
RIP Prot/Holy Paladins who will be forced into the other tree because Nobody will want to pick up an extra button to buff others.
RIP Saurfang who had his signature ability stolen by the Emo-Elf Tree, and RIP the Rotation of Unholy DKs who take it when they will randomly have to apply Virulent Plague more because that is what Unholy needed.
Very excited to look at Hero Talents. I think that the ones shown have good flavor, which is great.
I do have three initial concerns:
First being the balancing between them. With Tier sets currently altering a specific talent/ability, I am worried that if a, for example, Protection Warrior Tier Set buffs/relies on Storm Bolt, that Protection Warriors are then forced to take Mountain Thane for the maximum DPS or utility out of it. (My hot take on Tier Sets is to remove them, then just each patch give players a new “talent row” of passives - like Hero Talents(!) which are just ON for those months. But keep the cool looking raid armor for classes)
Second. Button bloat. I feel that a lot of specializations in the game are at their limit for buttons I can press and play well. Lightsmith paladin seems really cool! But I don’t know how I would feel about adding in an ability which sounds like it is on a 1 minute cooldown. I have been trying to learn a few DPS specs lately and if a Hero Talent gives me another button to press I might just default to never playing that because it is too much for me. I understand that practice and time will alleviate the issue somewhat but wanting to learn something and then seeing “here’s the buttons you use in your core rotation” being 10+ is just too much for me. There is NO WAY I would pick the Hero Talent tree that gives Affliction Warlock or Enhancement Shaman another ability to press. So seeing Holy Armaments scares me. Does “Rider of the Apocalypse” give Unholy a new button I NEED to use? Because if so the chances I play Rider Unholy go down significantly; and that makes me sad.
Third. Being unable to add in more Hero Talents in the future. I get that the Hero Talents are tied to two specs at the moment. However I think that adding in additional in the future which are tied directly into one Spec shouldn’t be off of the table. Having an “Avenger”, “Holy Guardian”, and “The Shield of the Righteous” as Protection Paladin specific Hero Trees could be super cool. Heck, even one weapon type - like all shield tanks - get a tree between them would be awesome as well.
I am aware that Point 1 and 2 are addressed (somewhat) in the post about the Hero Talents. I just want to re-iterate that those are MY concerns as well.
Im really hoping that blizzard learns a little bit from the Season of Discovery.
These Hero Talents shouldn’t just be a talent tree that you unlock when the expansion comes out. It should be heavily influenced by the Artifact Questlines from Legion. That is what people have seemingly enjoyed the most, going back to class quests and identities, doing something unique that makes your class feel special. Please add in questlines to unlock the various Hero Talents, it would be very fun for leveling in this expansion.
Similarly, it’d be very cool if there were perhaps a few hidden hero talents into later patches where players can unlock new hero talents. Or perhaps do it for the later expansions.
Can we please have Burning Blade Blademaster? Can we please have Dark Ranger?
These hero talents have to be just passive and not have any active skill because if they are mindful that the game itself already have too much already and so I do hope they stand their ground on being passives and that it be bland so that it’s easier to balance and or design around. For tier sets they have to simplify the next expansion tier set for the whole expansion or maybe up to season 2.
Talents that make players stand in things like deathknight d&d and the lightsmith talent where players have to pick up armaments should never have gotten out of the dev room. Everyone can already see the problems with those talents.
SOD is not retail and retail shouldn’t copy anything from those versions of the game it doesn’t fit.
Looks like I chose a good time to start playing Holy Paladin.
So Herald of the Sun is probably Holy/Ret and Templer is probably Prot/Ret.
Overall, looks very cool and I think it’ll add great new flavor to our classes and make playing the game more fun.
My only concern is how much time this will take away from development of changes that are needed for some classes, such as windwalker monk, frost and UH DK, warriors.
