Get an Early Look at Hero Talents in The War Within

this is gonna create huge imbalances…

Because people demand bing bing points to put into talents every level.

They did this for a few years with Artifacts, Azerite, Covenants…and people cried about “Borrowed Power” so we went back to Talent Trees…and now that we are doing a new expansion people will demand more talent points…so we need things to put them into.

So instead of having to make a billion powers the class and spec trees they made they threw them into new “HERO” trees that people will be forced into so they can’t backfill the old trees to get to things that might be better.

They’re adding more ways for players to make the wrong decisions and marginalize themselves.

I agree, it’s their answer to making things feel ‘‘rewarding’’. [get that dopamine hit at the next ding lol]

I heard all three will get points so you fill out them separately and don’t have to decide… hhence why a lot are passives.

But my guess why they did it was to not have to devise more talents for now in the two main trees. And simultaneously use this as a selling point for the expansion. Hence why they went with that particular the naming convention when it is merely artifact weapon talents, azerite armor, covenant ability type of idea. Repackaged as now hero talents. [one extra mini talent tree that isn’t borrowed power but takes that idea that borrowed powers presented in the last few expansions]… wink wink nudge nudge

I was hoping for new mechanics or at least new, and more impactful, visuals or animations.
Mountain thane sounds boring; its just more damage, or different type of damage, on both specs.
I really really was hoping to see something like “tank with a two handed” based on parries; “two handed + shield” for a valarjar kind-of.

I thought it would be more like ‘mixed-class-concepts’ and less ‘shared “new” talents’ between specs.

If it’s going to grow to essentially be our new spec going forward, it’s going to be a bit of an RP adjustment for an established character. I mean it has happened from time to time when specs get radically reimagined and I’ve survived just fine, but looking back on it now, I wasn’t wild about the effect the covenant choice in Shadowlands had on my internal RP (admittedly I ended up rolling randomly for the placement of alts in covenants )

The idea I like.

Everything else they showed I want nothing to do with.

Target ground ability that people have to run over?

Huge nope for personally.

Beside, I thought those were meant to be passive abilities and this is an active?
Back to drawing board.

I kinda hope it does, too…if only to indulge in the whinge threads about how noone can parse without holy weapons. That said, if paladin gets a buff like that and the damage isn’t properly attributed to the paladin, they’re gonna get the priest treatment. RIP Paladins.

Honestly they look pretty uninspired. Maybe its because we take all of the talents or because theyre still in development but it seems like a cheap way to shoehorn people into a role.

I guess ill have to wait and see where it takes rogue. But i cant imagine fury warriors wanting to be pseudo enhance shamans spamming thunder clap

This is definitely how I am going to feel

Yikesss… seems like alot of work to implement for a prot warrior to simply have a extra passive that lightning bolts enemies…

Would of loved for these choices/talents to actually effect the gameplay, rotation or core abilities more… Just seems likely extra buff weapon enchant…

Maybe other classes are better… but for prot warrior… gameplay/engagement will almost be identical to not having these talents… will just pump a little extra dps passively…

Please go all out with these. The idea is amazing to give us access to classes that won’t be available on their own.

I want to be a proper Dark Ranger!

Also Rider of the Apocalypse actually better let me ride into battle and fight on my undead horsey!

This is so… boring?

Why not visually unique racial class kits like lots of people have been suggesting since ~Legion? Kits that give characters unique spell effects and icons in relation to their race’s interpretation of a spec?

Arcane themed “Priest of Elune” Night Elf Discipline Priests?
Shadow / Death magic themed “Dark Ranger” Forsaken Marksmanship Hunters?
More sun and nature themed “Sunwalker” Tauren Paladins?

And so on. I bet visual customization would be much more appreciated by more people, and more representative of the lore than “Hero Talents”. You should hire more 3D / VFX artists, not the nth system designer!

Vampiric Aura needs real Clarification. many of us in the discord have read it many different ways for instance I read it “While Lichborne is active the leech amount is increased by 100% (10 to 20%) and (the Lichborne as a whole) affects 4 nearby allies” but someone else has read it to only mean the leech and then its a matter of is it 6% is it 20% etc. Word it better please.

Melee combat option for Beast Mastery Hunters. I want to go primal and be next to my pets not standing in the background yelling at them.

Optimistic but skeptical.

After seeing more of these, I am getting worried about the power creep again. This is already starting to feel a little unsustainable going forward. Evoker for example is already pretty survivable and now they have anther DR on their movement CD? Lightsmith I see a whole lot of power in the new ability that feels like blessing of summer.

Last immediate concern is the procyness of the trees. I think some interactions around core abilities are a good and fun thing to play with. But I worry that hero talents is that one step too far into bfa style buffs of just lots of things feel like they sorta happen all the time.

Hero talents look a lot like WoD leveling perks/conduits.

Time will tell if they make game play more interesting.

You know what would be cool blizzard?

Make fury warrior able to use one handed weapons and deal the same output as using two handed weapons.

Then add your hero baloney.
