My problem is the argument used. You can’t just say something like this when monarchies are very different depending on when/where they are enacted. There’s a lot of variance to rules there and none of them are specifically stated in game for any area.

Parent give power to child. That is the basic idea of a monarchy. That is what happened.

Ahhhhhhbviously, he needs to pass his crown to a son, because passing it to a daughter is Bad Monarchy-ing and Bad Writing.
Therefore, Liam Greymane is now alive–that is to say, he is no longer dead; specifically, he is undead, and it’s the Forsaken’s Winterveil gift to Genn.
Sure, his corpse is totally rotted from being dead for 12 years, but really, who’s counting? You can kind of tell it’s him, most of his nose is still there, and he’s still got one eye. He’s got the Greymane Chin, too…

If the quests told this angle and made it clear Genn was going to be taking time to guide Tess through tutelage, that would’ve been just fine. Nothing was said or even alluded to, though.

WoW’s design isn’t as impactful when it comes to story development.
I’m not surprised by the move. But it’ll always be kind of anti climactic in WoW.
Dunno if you noticed but Genn’s model and voice acting reflect a man whose age has finally caught up with him. Abdicating to a child at his wizened age is fairly standard in a monarchy.
The quest was a bit small but the ending pretty much hammered the reason down and it wasn’t anticlimactic at all. Pretty obvious actually.
