Gearing is terrible and unrewarding because of casuals

I gotta say, I do miss the times back in Vanilla and TBC when gear actually had more meaning and getting a Epic item gave me a elated feeling.

At the same time though I don’t miss having to apply to raiding guilds like I’m applying for a job just progress gearwise.

Not sure how I would go about creating a happy medium, but I can definitely say that atm, gearing up feels not so satisfying unless it’s for transmogs.

I still don’t understand why people argue about transitive gear when soon it wouldn’t matter.

If I pitch an idea to 100 people and 80 people leave… it doesn’t mean the builk of people agree with me just because everyone remaining in the room does. It just means those who don’t already left.

Why would you want the gearing system to return to tbc? You still lose all of your gains when the next expansion drops.

I used to care about having top gear, until I realized no one gives a **** 2 years down the road. It’s alll about what u did today, not yesterday.

Wow has a serious gearing issue and how to keep players interested and to stop the whole rinse repeat cycle.

Aye you took down a big baddie? Guess what that leet/epic weapon is now replaced with a starter green weapon come next expansion. Hope you enjoyed the countless days/hours of grinding for it, in a few months it is nothing more than an xmog.

Counter point: Gear and progression is a mess this expansion because of how badly they goofed the Azerite system so, to compensate, they are making it rain gear like a loot shooter so that all of the players feel like they have some way to ‘progress their character’

Hopefully Blizzard will be able to devise an alternate advancement system, preferably one that carries over each expansion, that can allow us casuals to continue to build our characters without having to shower me in purples.

I’ve already moved onto the classic beta and when it launches, I won’t look back.

Maybe one day theyll bring back WoW like it used to be, a proper mmorpg. Not this disgusting diablo hybrid where everyones put on rails, is the hero, and showered with loot. Yippee another 5 item levels. Last time I checked my bags I had around 30 pieces of epic loot just sitting in there.

Don’t blame casuals for this. Casuals did fine in vanilla and BC. Blame the nudevs who took over from the guys who made this game and had no clue why people loved wow.

We have players who are around ilvl 400 who haven’t even completed all the dungeons, not even on normal difficulty. If you guys can’t see an issue with a player having a heroic raiding gear ilvl without completing even the most basic content of the expansion but have gear of a heroic ilvl then there isn’t any reasoning going to happen.

Edit - I don’t even mean on a certain character, I mean on their whole account haven’t completed the most basic content.

I’ve been screaming this from the roof tops. The new developers brought over from the Diablo team created this mess the game is in at the moment. WoW always borrowed stuff from Diablo, but it still kept it’s MMO roots. The current game is an absolute mess with boring grinds that are aimed at padding their MAUs, which ironic because these systems are turning people off to playing.

Same here!

It’s way too late in a tier to be shocked that people are heroic raid ilevel without doing any actual raiding.

I’m far from shocked, I was simply stating an issue that nobody should be shocked over.

Edit - wanted to add a :frowning:

I was the world’s top Resto Druid according to WoL. Maybe they don’t use WoL to rank players anymore?

Pretty accurate post tbh

You are asking the wrong question. The question I think you may need to ask is: why are more subscribers not raiding or doing more keystones?

My answer:
If it is not some elitist ruining the dungeon/raid for me, then it could be all the freaking glitz and glam graphics in the dungeon/raid are too much for me to visually take in and process fast enough to react in a timely manner. Often times I can not even see the mobs to be able to click on them with my mouse during battles/fights. By the time I am able to select them, they are dead already. If I am healing, I am thankful I know how to use GRID. There is just too much and I am not elite enough. At this point, I leave the dungeon early because I am just too frustrated/bored and I go farm skins to sell on auction house, do world quests, or turn the computer off and go watch television.

You may have your graphics up too high ,I had to turn mine down in raids and dungeon I couldn’t see what I was fighting through the effects everyone had.

Probably, but I just do not find dungeons fun any more. I miss the simpler times and that is why I am excited about classic. It is not just the graphics, its the procs I need to be aware of to maximize damage. In vanilla we just had a rotation. Maybe a couple things to keep an eye out for. These days its just too dang much. SO I just choose to farm, quest or not play. Now when Classic comes, I will play, but not like I played during Vanilla. Most Likely play 10 hours a week. But in Classic I will not need to worry about hurry hurry hurry to get ready for such and such raid. I will see it when i see it. It not going anywhere this time. No rush. In classic I will have time to min and max everything.

Go play Classic then. Did you even play TBC? I don’t ever want to go back to taking a year to get full epics if your lucky. I know guys who cleared MC for a full year and still didn’t get the dagger they were hoping for.

He thinks gear makes other people instantly good just because they equip it.

MoP was the last xpac it was used, but your kill dates don’t make sense. How can you be top for a ranking when the tier was over in the previous xpac?

A few questions to this:

Because you raid - does that mean that if I do not, that doing shared content like World Quests should be harder for me than you?

What exactly is the reward for raiding? Is it the shiny purple loot or is it the accomplishment of killing the boss? What motivates you to raid?

What someone else gets in game, whether it is a mount, a pet, a carry on a mythic or heroic encounter, how does it negatively impact your gaming experience?

and finally,
What does Ilvl indicate to you?
