Gearing is terrible and unrewarding because of casuals

Point I’m making is that we probably shouldn’t shelf the idea that maybe there’s a crowd of players that have left because they didn’t like how the gear system is. Or better yet that’s part of the reason they left. Forgot to mention that. We can really only go by videos, streams, forums, and WoW related websites on how the community feels on something like this.

I am not saying people don’t talk about it. The forums are a very small subset of the wow population. So, trying to give much weight to what is being said on the forums would be the wrong way to go.

Serious question - what’s the harm in trying a less RNG based gear system for a patch or two? Just to see how players react, then adjust accordingly.

I’m not interested in your tin foil hat salt fueled delusions of conspiracy theories.

If you add up every single person you’ve ever talked to about WoW do you even think it will come close to .1% of the playerbase? Why should we care that the people you surround yourself with share your opinion about reward systems. That’s expected social grouping. It doesn’t, in any way, speak to what the overall population of the game wants.

I did mention in this thread I am OK with some new currency that allows people earn and to apply WF/TF upgrades to gear in a more deterministic approach.

I agree that it’s a subset. I can only come to conclusions based on all the information that I can gather online as well as through talking with friends and people on my realm on how they feel about it. And looking through all of them something that comes up a lot is how the current gearing system isn’t a quality one.

I’m not saying that this is end all be all or anything. But it does seem to be a concern that a portion of the playerbase has with the game right now.

Please point out where I said what the overall population of the game wants in modern WoW.

I don’t disagree. I mean we tend to hang out with like minded people. No one in either of my two guilds seems to be upset about the gearing systems currently. They all seem to enjoy WF/TF as well.

The thing is with this forum post it sounded like you guys want to either lower the ilvl of gear from dailies or remove them completely. Either way it probably would take more time and effort to obtain gear. Because lets REMEMBER, not everyone shares the same amount of free time nor interest.

As long as you’re not trying to assert that a substantial number of players have a problem with it, I’m good with acknowledging that some people aren’t happy with it.

Because we know that that’s just the facade you argue by because when we get into the details you start talking about stuff being too rewarding. Thus you’re not just interested in removing RNG, you want a loot paradigm of old reimplemented that takes us back towards raid or piss off.

I don’t think anyone here has said that. I personally just want a less RNG based system, as well as a more proportionate gear curve when it comes to difficulty at the higher end.

They will never get their way for the old raid or die thing. M+ is definitely here to stay.

It’s definitely a different crowd of players for sure. It wouldn’t really make much sense as a GM to surround myself with people that don’t really share the same goals as myself. But even then I do get conversations with people that have a completely different opinion than me. Like for instance a while back we had a player that joined the game in WoD and we were having a conversation about Classic and how excited we were. They then would say things like…

“Why would you want to play an even slower pace version of the game?”

“All of these things you’re explaining sound stupid and inconvenient”

“Not really sure how anyone could stomach this”

…which ended up in a debate about Modern vs Classic. Both sides had their piece to speak on things and they agreed to disagree.

If anything on this forum that I’ve at least tried to show is that I’m not really going to shy away from anyone that has a different opinion than me. I try to be open and understanding to most situations to hear people out and for them to make their point clear so we can have a conversation of perception. To try and understand each others side and come to a conclusion of either…

A. Understanding one sides opinion in the matter

B. Agreeing to disagree

If you guys like it, more power to you. I’m just looking to find a way where we can make changes so that there isn’t a group of players aren’t being hung out to dry. I don’t believe we should make changes to hurt the top end, nor should we make changes that steps on the little guy.

Are you sure noone was referring to that?

I don’t have the numbers to prove anything. The only information that I can use is from WoW related websites and players that use Twitter.

Even after the first kill of Heroic CoS, I don’t find any incentive to go Mythic CoS. Bad loot table for some of the classes or spec.

This is why I do like you. I have seen you do this several times. I know we have gone back and forth a good bit.

Then let’s give rewards that aren’t gear or achievements that you can solo 2 years down the road. Pets, mounts, consumables, mats, good looking tmog, etc.

Why don’t we just say screw gear at this point since it’s meaningless anyway and figure out a way to make activities more rewarding without gear being the only reward.

I am ok with giving some kind of rewards for it… Something like you mention: pets, mounts, consumables, mats, tmogs…

Edit: Even some cool tabards… I think Blizzard is lacking in tabards.
