So it’s better to have a system where new players have a longer catch-up mechanic and guilds trying to recruit have a smaller pool to recruit from unless they back raid?
I suggest finding a time machine and going back 15 years to let Blizzard of the past know, since the whole thing was marketed as a casual alternative to Everquest.
It can be anyone, anywhere. In my experience, people who define themselves as casual are easy-going, enjoy themselves, play the content they want, and don’t waste time worrying about what others do. People who define other people as casual do it in the most sneering and derogatory fashion, to mean “people who don’t meet MY standards of play.”
Who’s doing lower level raids these days?
And doing M+ is a catch up mechanic.
Where else do people get 400 ilvl gear from? It’s from WF (twice a month), and the emmissary caches (which requires you to be close to 390’ish ilvl to get 400 ilvl drops).
So it’s not like a fresh green in 280 after hitting 120 gets to 400 heroic ilvl and ready to join mythic teams anytime soon unless they do the M+ mechanic catchup.
So my point is that it’s an extremely long time for someone to get to heroic raiding ilvl without doing higher difficulty content. Can they be there months into a raid tier without ever raiding? Sure. But I doubt it’s optimized, lacks WF/TF that someone raiding Heroic on farm would get, and that heroic raider will be 400+ way before that non-raider ever would.
So a world first mythic raider or a player who does a +25 key, or even a PvP player who tops their ladder could be considered a casual not because of the content they digest, but because of their mindset
I’ll admit this is a new look at the word.
It doesn’t do anyone any good to get upset at someone who plays the same game, in a different way, for the same fifteen bucks a month (give or take a free weekend promotion or two). Be casual in accepting that all playstyles are valid, and don’t concern yourself with those who do it differently. It’s the only healthy way.
I think a lot of people are upset with gear progression not because they care so much what others get, but because it is detrimental to their own experience.
Yes, and vanilla was primarily EQ players(some runequest, some tabletop gamers, Ultima). The most casual of those players were way more a dedicated gamer than today’s casual.
That playerbase built the success of vanilla through TBC. They pulled a new gamer into the game. They spawned “wrathbabies”. This would be when the casuals started taking over. Do you remember Cata? Probably the last battle in the challenge vs casual argument as blizz nerfed the “too hard” heroic instances due to casual tears.
Subs have been falling since. And now we’re at BFA. Rife with QoL , devoid of any challenging content or gameplay besides high end raiding/keys.
I get that the game is good for you. But what would make the game better for everyone, is more people playing. And that wont happen if they continue to cater to your gaming needs.
How so? Issues with group-forming? I will admit that things like phasing are probably bad for community-based game modes since they make it unlikely that you’ll ever see the same people twice.
This is untrue to. The whole “what does it matter if it doesn’t effect you” bit is a bad example.
Say there was a playstyle where you can click a single button and you’ll get all your BiS at max ilvl. Do you really think any game would be okay with that? But hey, if you want to raid and work hard for your gear, go ahead. “what does it matter if it doesn’t effect you”?
That’s not a valid excuse. Games need to have some level of effort to receive rewards or that game is quickly going to fall on it’s face.
You know the system is bad when world bosses drop gear that is lower then WQ gear.
Well yeah, everyone else left.
2/9 Mythic and complains about casuals…
Really? You’re like 1/2 a step beyond casual.
i doubt even casuals like random mythic raid level procs. What’s wrong with consistent loot anyway, random is bad. Instead of trying to get higher difficulties it only encourages low grind and praying for sweet buff
Has nothing to do with grouping. It has more to do with urgency.
There is no persistent growth. It’s random it’s chaotic and without reason. I work for weeks to get an item only for dumb luck to trump it the following day. Catch up mechanics negate everything I’ve accomplished only a month or so after I’ve accomplished it. Why play for anything today when it will all be handed out in a month? The feeling of satisfaction is non existent in BfA. And that is one of the many reasons BfA is such an overwhelming failure
Well according to the forums, raiders should be only doing raids for fun and enjoyment. So why not that? If it’s good enough for raids…
I think you’re oversimplifying it a bit, there, but let’s say for a moment that Blizzard does implement this. You can log in, press a button, and have yourself some 410 ilvl gear. Who does this hurt? Not the raid group who check players out to see if they understand content. Not the guild who vet their players before inviting them to progress. Most PVP players I’m aware of value skill at playing over gear, especially in team events where communication and synergy is needed.
Maybe it’s time to step away from the game a bit? Maybe my own view is too narrow. Currently the game is playing well for me. I do a mythic+ once a week, raid two nights a week. The only factor I could see really stomping out my enjoyment of the game would be the loss of the people I play with.
You give everyone 410 gear:
LFR raids, Normal Raids, Heroic Raids go away. Any guild that can’t recruit for 20-mans go away because the only content to do is Mythic raiding and they can’t field the numbers.
M+ dies down since there’s no loot-carrot at the end of that stick.
Mythic guilds hit world first faster and stop raiding since they don’t need to gear up for next raid. They just wait til the ilvl is bumped up and the “free loot” button comes out.
It’s all about having a big enough carrot to make the donkey move.
Why would the donkey ever chase the carrot when there’s a hand feeding them carrots all the time?
LMFAO good one sir or maam here a like!
