While I unnderstand your skepticim, let punch a hole in it.
Your skepticm is born of human understanding of the universe and physics. But you also forget statistics.
We inhabit a very small and reasonably insignificant rock in the backwater of an infinitely expanding space.
Therefore, it is statisticly impossible that we are not only alone in this grand and infinite space but it is also impossible that we are the most advanced beings in this infinite and expanding space.

I never argued we are alone as I believe it is a given we are not.
What I find difficult is to imagine the utter vastness of the galaxy and what kind of technology it would take to physically explore it.
