So it 's more likely a population issue, or cross-realm feature issue. It’s not an issue with gamma dungeon itself.
They also didn’t do a good timing of the SoD launch and Cata announcement.
You can tell me you’ve modified/moderated your argument and we can have a real conversation.
Lot of things to consider and my purpose is to get folks to think and not just contradict.
- Tier 12 gear, not Tier 13, will be the most relevant for 4.3 difficulty. Tier 13 is end-of-expansion freewheel.
- Remember that Cata only has 2 raid tiers before the final phase. Wrath piled on an extra layer of power.
- Patches 4.06 and 4.1 nerfed 20 dungeon bosses. Omitting that, if it’s Blizzard’s plan, changes things a ton.
A big consideration is who’s actually in the dungeons. If it’s all raid-gear mains, especially friends or guildies – well, that’s different than 5 pugs playing alts in i346-i359. The fact is even with the early-2011 nerfs, the vast majority of groups weren’t chain-pulling or killing bosses before they could finish their RP.
Cataclysm’s level of challenge is robust, and all that’s needed is the good Classic+ change of catch-up currency. It’s Blizzard’s decision to make money, or suppress subscription and ancillary services, then tweet about how much they love ex-coworkers who got laid off.
CataC should obviously have improved 5 man content. It would make no sense to have better 5 man content options in WotLKC than CataC. Especially since one of the major features of the expansion was finally offering better smaller group content (though they only did it to 10 man in original Cata).
I don’t think it necessarily has to take the same form as WotLKC Gamma dungeons, but there should be 5 man content in CataC past original heroics.
I think as we enter P2 and P3 of Cata it’s probably a good idea to continue the philosophy of keeping heroics relevant and making it easier to gear up quickly as a catch up mechanic for new and returning players.
I have seen plenty of complaints for the same reasons from players in US an EU with much larger player pools
You can argue, but the fact is me and a lot of ppl here didn’t have the same issue while gearing up multiple fresh 80 alts via gamma.
Raid gear is for raiders. Dungeon gear is to get you into raids.
#RemoveAlphaBetaGamma
My main problem was that the 5 different difficulty settings split up the player base so much you could run gammas or nothing at all. Even when lfg came out on Oceanic it’s still very hard to get a group for non-gamma heroics.
What would be the point, what everyone forgets is Cata changed it, so T11 drops Valor points and dungeons Justice Points, JP are used for heroic level gear and Valor for T11 and some off peices, when firelands comes out all T11 stuff is now for justice points and T12 is for valor, and your valor gets turned into justice every tier. there is zero reason for alpha, beta, gamma going forward. The catchup remains relevant, and Cata vendors sell really good items, the heroics are always valid because of the new currency.
I mean i admit my idea is bad, but they will be a reason to run them in cata cause the vendors don’t sell every item from the raids. They sell stuff like the current emblem vendors sell.
sounds like a skill issue
they also sell the previous tier, and there is no 10/25 difference in item level so gear inflation happens slower than in wrath. it goes from 359 to 410 or 51 item levels, while Wrath went from 200-277 or 77 item levels. Also we now have reforging to make most gear useful.
Have you considered getting good?
I think he’s mostly right in the first paragraph. The affixes were bad and not tested and they didn’t fix issues with them for entire phases. Web wrap dropping threat was awful. Being unavoidably stunned and dying to ice was dumb. Mirror images are like explosive in M+ but arguably worse, and most people hate that affix.
It was a huge catch-up for alts though, totally disagree on that.
I queued a gamma dungeon by mistake while farming some JP. There were pieces of gaudy console-game-style fruit all over the floor. Stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. Basically it felt like retail.
I like that gammas (tried in all cases, succeeded in some) to add raid-like mechanics to dungeons, but at the same time I hate doing raids with people I don’t know and by extension gammas often make me want to say very nice things to strangers.
Every Mirror-Image gamma I’d harp on people to handle the mirror images because they interrupt my healing, and therefore I can’t heal, and then we wipe. The most common reaction was silence, the next most common was grumbling/ego checking, and the third most common was this sort of “wait I have to do a mechanic? Okay” where then the mechanic was done.
What happened was the moment I was outfitted for ICC I stopped doing Gammas and completed the daily with FoS only. But I’d happily join a guild run of gamma dungeons if someone was doing them.
And maybe that’s fine as a system overall, but I don’t really want to go through the experience of dragging myself through that again. Ideally I could avoid that by consistently raiding through the phases, or by doing the cata-gamma equivalent purely with guild members.
You are grossly exaggerating how bad the Gammas were. The trade off of higher gear far FAR out weighed the added time/effort that was required.
I hope they continue the system but scale it better. gamma only felt difficult for the first few dungeons and then your gear out did everything and it became a slog. be fun if it was relevant and difficult.
especially with the ungodly prevelance of this new version of gdkp where gold is required in abundance to raid… this is the only normal form of content for a lot of players that arent whales.
"ungodly prevelance of this new version of gdkp where gold is required in abundance to raid… "
What do you mean by that? Honest question. I feel like I have limited perspective on this and I just don’t know what you mean.
Yea and put Souldrinker, Gurthalak etc at the vendor for badges. So that way they are attainable. It was almost impossible to get some of the DS items in original Cata. I never could get a normal version of Souldrinker had to settle on LFR one.
