Gamma Dungeons in Cata?

Going into Cataclysm, do you want to see them do the Gamma dungeons again… Or just drop it entirely?

I liked the idea of them at first, then i just got sick of the dungeon grind on multiple alts. I personally wouldn’t mind them keeping the vendor and currencies. Just moving the currencies to the raids or maybe both i don’t know.

I’m expecting them to continue the system, although I hope for a few tweaks to it and changes being made. I would say it’s been a very successful system in Wrath and and any dedicated Wrath players are going to go into Cataclysm, on average, a hell of a lot stronger geared than your average wrath player meaning the Heroics, whether the nerfed versions or not, are going to be much easier and will fall pretty quickly. (on top of in general, players being better and knowledge being more widespread).

PLayers love small group content. Time and time again it’s been proven people love to push harder dungeon content and raid content with more manageable groups of friends/pug groups. Continuing this system would keep that trend going and add variety to the system instead of just spamming easily cleared heroics later down the line in the expansions life time to grind rep or badges.

Drop it, its a failed experiment. They created affixes that were poorly thought out. Dungeon with a boss that doesn’t move? Let’s make it spawn a barely blood pool that heals it to full. Dungeon where trash and final boss stun? Ice patches spawn under your feet that deal damage! Webs that make you lose threat? Perfect for a boss that has an ability that will one shot any non tank player. Mirror images were a ton of fun too, instead of actually doing damage to the trash, you got to spam moonfire for 30 minutes while 374,384,174 adds spawn!

They also changed dungeons from being an activity you’d do to gear up an alt, to something so tedious that everyone only ran it with overgeared players, thanks to the extra 3 Emblems of X (and later on, sidereal/scourgestones). It also nearly completely killed off regular heroics prior to RDF being added to the game.

If the devs want to mess with the game adding stuff like this, do it in SoD. Keep the initial re-release of the game as it was.

They should drop them. It’s a toxic, gatekept nightmare. And completely unnecessary in Cata, where dungeons were kept relevant the entire expansion already.

But they’ve already confirmed they’re coming.

If they bring them back, I hope they’re better thought out than in Wrath. Make the newly added mechanics impactful but also fun to interact with

I hope they do all the same foolishness again. We had to suffer it with wrath, so make cataclysm defenders suffer it too.

they were a complete failure in wrath and actually ruined dungeons/gearing.

a massive waste of developers time.

They’re already doing it in Cataclysm.

They system is good, it’s the players that ruin it.

I don’t raid and more of a casual. This is due to many different time constraints. I didn’t like the Gammas at first but I do now. It’s the best way for a casual to get some type of decent gear. SO, I hope they keep it in some form.

They’re Star Wars Special Edition-level failures.

Most players accepted some modernizations and alterations, like the Naxx uptune we didn’t even notice.

But Classic was not supposed to be about today’s Blizzard trying to get on the same stage as the devs from 15 years ago.

The affixes are awfully balanced across dungeons, ranging from invisible (troll) to unfair (Utgarde) to no-one-asked-you-to-cover-the-floor-with-crap (ToC).

People silently grinded and then avoided. Forge of Souls kept a lot people subbed.

Cataclysm dungeons are full of mechanics and will be challenging (and frustrating) to most groups in original state throughout the expansion. There’s no room for anything else, even from the talented original team.

Seriously, spend resources in places where they’re actually needed.

I am fine with them keeping them.
You don’t have to do them.
They are not meant as a catch up for a fresh 85 in quest gear (or whatever max level will be)
The players who like to “park and bark” ruined them.

I’m okay with the catch up system. Allow Aphba/Beta/Gamma serve as a catch up.
Just lose the affixes.

Weren’t the Cata dungeons more difficult/mechanics driven than Wotlk dungeons? I remember people having a hard time at the beggining of Cata back then.

I believe they stated they were dropping the nerf’d dungeons but you are correct they were much more difficult back when Cata first started and it stirred up a big giant :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: fest.

If they don’t do the affixes, then what do you suggest they do for Alpha/Beta/Gamma’s?

I don’t mind the gamma system. I think the only other way to up the difficulty is to add mythic plus style affixes to heroics. I dont remember what kind of weeklies we were doing then, but i think mostly just firelands rep stuff.

Nothing. If they want to add in currencies, sure. There is no real need to gate it behind mid range GS that can acquired with PvP in 1 day.

All it does is create a barrier to entry.
I’ve seen it countless times people grabbing loot they don’t need just to get GS to queue for Gammas. Literally had a DK grab plate intellect for GS.

GS was not a bigger deal in Cata than WoTLK (If I remember correctly) … was it not item level or something slightly different?

If there are no extra affixes and just the same dungeons, they why have Alpha, Beta, etc . That makes no sense. I think the reasons behind them in WoTLK was harder dungeons drop better loot. If loot gets better for the same exact run - that is boring. Just do the retail “click here for free gear upgrade at the login screen” and save the drama.

If people are creating a barrier to entry, they will do it on something else and removing the affixes won’t stop the unscrupulous from grabbing gear they don’t need.

They don’t have to be called that.
Just make them drop that special catch up currency.

Or actually turn it into like Rifts or something. Compete 1 - get access to 2nd level with higher rewards.

To elaborate.
You queue into heroic - complete it get 1 time use Alpha key. Complete that. Get 1 time use Beta key. Complete that and get 1 time use Gamma key or something. MAYBE. And with each you get affix and BETTER rewards, such as Heroic Firelands gear or smt. Or special tokens for Heroic gear. IDK.

I never understood Protocol dungeons personally. Yes, they are a decent catch up…But only because of the currency.
And rest led to unnecessary toxicity imho, that often took place in the form of vote kicking lower GS folks.

If we’re entering Phase 3 DS patch and we are all BIS Tier 12. It really doesn’t make any difference if its regular Heroic or Gamma. It just won’t.
All it does, really, just creates this barrier to those who actually need/want some Firelands normal gear.
