I wish they would just go all in on Dual Wield for Frost but mix it up by having a 2H mainhand and a 1H offhand. This way everyone is happy and they can then really tighten the talent tuning properly.
Quick math says that itās more upfront damage than GA based off current tuning numbers. And with how free Razorice is going to be with Arctic Assault, GA is seem pretty redundant now outside of 2h Obliteration builds, and even then itād probably be better to take something else since Obliteration in general gets so many free KM procs.
Only for DW. 2h will be in the 2-3s range on average.
30s CD, 2 runes, always crits. 100% chance it will ādo a truckloadā and is very likely to be taken in AoE due to the KM CDR and just because it will hit hard and be another great AoE tool for M+.
DW with a 2h in the MH and 1h in the Offhand would very likely just make 2h players angry and not have much of an effective on DW players. 2h players donāt want 2 weapons, they just want 1.
Youre getting the equivalent of multiple fwfs worth of dmg going out with a 30s, this is a really nice change.
yeah 324ish% damage is nice and 30 sec isnt that bad
Fury warrior? Sure. Frost DK? Never. Itās important to me to only use a single 2h weapon as a DK regardless of spec. Only 1 weapon. Not 2. Zero 1h weapons.
We will get razorice passive from km procing ga and from rime now. Really hard to tell where these talents are going to take frost, but aoe could be nuts for us next expansion.
tree seems to lean dual wield now which isnt the worst since we will be able to do stoneskin on 1h weapons too.
Overall worried about button bloat between class tree and frost tree we will be adding like 5 buttons to our pool some situational some rotational but theres just going to be a lot to press in our still short (even with extension) pillar windows. Like imagine having to press FWF and frostscytheā¦ at the end of pillar and dnd is a global in pillar too. its going to be weirddddd. Dnd will also now be 10 seconds while pillar maxes at 15ā¦ so will we have to press twice?
Also really worried that they just completely doubled down on frost having to maintain perfect uptimeā¦ fsc cd scaling with km uses. Pillar extending. anther damage amp tied to icy talons.
Could be amazing tree! But the damage will all be smoothed out and balanced anyway now you just have to have even better uptime and manage to fit even more into pillar window. ehhh
First, DnD will be 14 seconds now in TWW and second, it may be possible that there could be an AoE build that just completely foregoes DnD all together.
Im thinking that with the Frost Strike talent that does AoE, our access to plenty of Razorice (DW could even have it as one of their Runeforges), KM auto-casting GA, Frostscythe now and our already good passive cleave with Rime and RW, we could potentially just ignore DnD. Obviously it would need to be tested but the more I think about it, the more I want it to work lol.
Saying that I was surprised by how good these changes are would be a gross understatement. I also very much like the Deathbringer hero tree.
Dk was my main for a little over 3 expansions and I do miss playing it, but at the same time I feel like a dog that has been kicked one too many times.
I noticed this, too. There is shaping up to be quite a few abilities here. Hopefully it doesnāt go overboard.
Hoping for a rework of Glacial Advanceās animation, which is terrible. We have dragon characters breathing sheets of flame now, Blizz. Letās get something better than a dippy line of crystals shooting forward.
Would like for Frostscytheās damage to scale with crit percentage, or it will disincentivize crit a bit. Otherwise, that seems like a decent change.
You can probably go ahead and flush Chill Streak away, if you need space on the tree. I donāt think anyone will miss it, really.
I tested it on alpha, its fine bro the amount of AoE damage fdk does is actually INSANE
They are so good, for once im proud of the developers they actually have proved me wrong
It feels really good in practice, Artic Assault is insane
They feel extremely good to play with
A lot of the new changes do make the spec function properly, Shattering blades is possible on 2h now, Artic assault smoothly fixes the runeforging problem, Deathbringer just in general is the most fun ive had on FDK rotationally speaking probably ever, And riders of the apocalypse although passive, Is an insane amount of fun when you realize youre just mounted 24/7
Lol, No probably not to be honest with you not with all the new talents and some of the new defensive value we get from the hero talent trees
The rest of the kit is literally perfectly fine on alpha
Nah, youre just being pessimistic because you havent felt what its like to play with the new talents and hero tree
No, why? Because āI wish they would just go all in on 2h for frost, but mix it up by allowing you to transmog the 2h to the legion 1h artifactsā
This puts a smile on my face.
This is most likely true. I admit, I had little faith in blizz overall to fix frost. I will be more positive I suppose once I get to test it. But I still stand by my KM post. I think anytime you have scaling with a stat that devalues itself, it feels bad. Frost damage has been so poor outside of KM and oblit windows, so maybe it is myself, just not getting to test the new frost yet. I switched off my DK for S4 to try some other alts, Warrior and ret. They just feel so much better than frost.
But after seeing the positive comments from those who got to test the alpha, I am looking forward to seeing it in action.
I mean the spec is still entirely based on KM obliterates but the difference now is that the other buttons we have are much more relevant, Froststrike can AoE, And the hero talent tree deathbringer adds so much awesome flavor to the spec ontop of reapers mark being insanely fun to use
Deathbringer is unironically the most fun ive ever had on frost dk probably ever
And rider of the apoc even though is passive, its just as fun because the mounted combat
Im as scared as i am excited because my DK PTSD has me thinking theyre going to gut all of it into the dirt
This is what we could do.
Design the class for dual wield using a 2h mainhand and 1h offhand. Lore wise this is easily achieved as death knights have supernatural strength. The reason for a 1h offhand is for channeling runic power abilities more easily.
Then
- A talent that makes the offhand weapon act like Dancing Rune Weapon and your character reverts to a single 2H animation set
- Offer a glyph that does the above.
- Allow transmog of 2h weapons to 1h for those that like the aesthetic of 2 smaller weapons.
Problems solved.
That alone brings a lot to the fun imo. The animations for Death Bringer look really cool.
Thats exactly what we shouldnt do i think a lot of people would greatly prefer to stick to a singular 2handed weapon
and respectfully, you dont play the game at all to be trying to remove what people love about the spec out from under them so you can live out some weird 2hander 1 hander dw fantasy in LFR
Ooohhh, weāre looking at profiles now? I would suggest reading up on glass houses mate.
So youād rather a spec see-saw from one extreme to the other time and again because they cannot balance both play styles meaningfully?
I get it, you want the big two handed look and feel and thatās fine, but then the other side of the fence likes the rapid fire one handers, no one side is right or wrong here, what we need to do is find a middle ground so our class/spec can climb out of the gutter.
After having just specified wanting equal performance and optionality for each weapon-based playstyle, her quote:
I.e., āI donāt particularly care how DW Frost fairs against UH or other melee DPS specs. I just want 2H to be equal to it.ā
Now look at your read on it:
Tbf, thatās outright mangling obvious meaning more so than mincing words, butā¦
Anywhoā¦
Looking forward to trying out the Frostscythe redesign. Feels like Glacial Advance needs a similar level of rehaul, though; it looks and feels basic and lackluster af.
Ive said many times on the forums that id rather the weapon types be homogenized to have 0 gameplay difference between playing dw or 2hander
But your middle ground is forcing the spec to become dual wield again, And for some very very weird reason you think that just because one of the dual wielded weapons is technically a 2hander that people would be okay with that
You clearly dont understand that a large amount of fdks do not want more than a singular weapon in their hands or to have to loot
Filthy casual Frosty reporting in.
Iām kinda liking what Iām seeing with change to this tree. Been playing with the WoWhead calculator. some of the new stuff down lower looks like fun. cant quite reach all I would like to have, and of course testing would show better what I should cut, but Iām not in on the alpha.
Historically I was always a fan of an Oblit build but as a dual wielder. Never really liked the Breath race. Iām guessing with motfw still as it is, 2h is still supreme there?
