Friendly Reminder NOT to Take PTO for WotLK Launch

I know some people love to save PTO for these launches, but history has shown time and time again that they’re usually botched. If you’re on a mega server, WotLK Classic is THE Classic release everyone has been waiting for. The servers aren’t going to come up when they’re supposed to, the queues will be terrible once they do, and the first day or 2 are going to be laughably bad.

If you’re on a smaller server, you probably think you’re going to jump right in. Again, there’s a much higher chance that the servers will be down for longer than people anticipate, meaning you’ll just waste PTO you could have been using on the beach, in the mountains, or any other better alternative. These very forums will be flooded with people demanding “refunds” or “free game time” for the inconvenience. They won’t get it, but they’ll make threads about it regardless.

In any case, I don’t expect 100% positivity from this post, but I would positively love for everyone to have an awesome time with one of WoW’s best expansions. Set your expectations accordingly, use your PTO for something more fun, and remember that the game will still be there days, weeks, and months after these problems sort themselves out. See ya in Wrath!

As often as people have over 6k forum posts.

I find that strange. If i’m taking time off, I’m going to Dubai or Aruba, not Borean Tundra.

Thanks for dedicating your first post to me btw.

I completely agree. I would not take off that Monday for sure.

Probably not even Tuesday either. Could EASILY see the servers down for extended maintenance on Tuesday. End up with a “servers down from 7-8”… then extended to 9, 11, 1, 330PM. I would say Wed → is perfectly OK to take PTO for.

Don’t listen to this guy!! He’s trying to scam you all out of grinding time just so he can be the first to 80 and suck up all the world resources!! I’m on to you…

I’ve taken pto for every launch in the last like 10-12 years, only bad one was WoD.

TBC launch went fine. It was way smoother than expected. And they layered the hell out of it so much, my buddy and I leveling together didn’t even see a single player outside the first few quests of hellfire peninsula.

But i agree. If you are going to take PTO, take like the week or two after. If you grind to 80 the first day, won’t be as many 80s around to do content with. And if it’s delayed a week, well then you are right on target.

Taking PTO day one is a waste, but if you got PTO to burn why not.

OP clearly just wants to be 80 and farming gold before everyone else stuck at work /s

i took off that thursday and friday
4 day weekend woot!

Several of my guildies are already taking the time off. Although not Monday for most. I already have the week off randomly and have since the end of 2021 since that’s when the requests go in, with no plans because the “actual vacations” happened at the start of summer.

Anyway, you do have a point overall, especially for Monday, but people like the excitement. If those queues happen the forum should be a very interesting place.

This is correct. Wasnt TBC pretty smooth actually? Vanilla classic was nuttz though.

Some of us have absurds amounts of time off so why not use it for a video game. Saves me 10k on a trip.

I think fresh is going to be packed to the max and they’re not ready for it

I think you’re right.

You know of any place people are organizing for fresh? I am debating trying it but wouldn’t wanna go into it without knowing others.

Yes, but the pre-patch was opened at like 1 am Pacific (technically on the next day). The game was off all day which was like 12 hours late.

True and everyone is different. I find it kind of funny when people on here tell others what they should do with their vacation time overall as it’s nobody else’s business, even though it’s fair to mention possible game delays.
