French Interview with Ion

I think that their perspective on what constitutes important lore and what doesn’t is kind of warped then because BtS revolutionized how we look at Human-Forsaken relations which is one of the most discussed lore topics there is.

No, almost everything important is outside of the game.

Eh not really, I mean think of it this way. Even though Xavius was “killed” in Stormrage, he was brought back to be killed ingame(the only major important lore in that book was Malfurion reawoke/Brox has a niece who now has his weapon). Similarly Sinestra was killed in Night of the Dragon but most people would know her more due to the encounter in Twilight Bastion.

Depends on your view. Yes the BtS book shows a POTENTIAL change to Forsaken/Human relation but considering Sylvanas killed off her own people by the end of the book it was reset. The only ones who had a true change of Heart would be Genn/Turalyon and who know if that will ever be reflected ingame.

Azeroth of course I’m assuming is the named after the Zereth for the Great Dark Beyond…

The Caverns of Time judging from it’s similarities to the Desert Side of Zereth Mortis naturally are part of the true Zereth where the Machine of Space & Time sorts through Planets in it’s Spheres(the Timeways) before launching ones the Progenitors approve of out into the Great Dark Beyond.

The World Soul Azeroth is naturally the Titan Prototype constructed by Zereth Chronos and kept in the Planet that guards Zereth Chronos itself.

The fact that the Progenitors decided to create Freya, Khaz’goroth, Golganneth and Argus says a lot about how AUs influenced the Machine of Time & Space.

Zovaal wants both Zereth Mortis and Zereth Chronos it seems. He wants to smash the Machine of Time & Space as well as the Machine of Death so that new Worlds stop being made and all Souls get sent straight to the Maw to be ruled by him.

The next Villain might instead be obsessed with saving Life and tamper with Zereth Chronos sending out every AU World that isn’t doomed into the Great Dark Beyond.

AU Azeroth 1(WC1 Era Azeroth), AU Azeroth 2(Pre-Sundering Azeroth), AU Draenor and AU Argus might very well be simply thrown out the Spheres into MU Azeroth’s Orbit just to satisfy Life’s decrees!

Naturally the Denizens of Azeroth will have to make efforts to get rid of the less intelligent of the meddlers(the ones who would shoot out Void, Scourge and Legion-ruled Worlds without thinking) just to get the Machine of Time & Space under control.

Different books really do have varying degrees of importance. Twilight Of The Aspects wouldn’t change anything important if it were made noncanon while Tides Of War is fairly significant.

Well Tides of War did have major events in said book happen in game(namely the bombing and the aftermath to Jaina’s psyche). We were also told about the whole “she was going to drown ogrimmar” ingame during Purge of Dalaran.

Tides Of War is where Jaina was made leader of Dalaran which is unexplained ingame.

True, I didnt says everything in book was covered but in the grand scheme of things that seem like a minor detail(at least more minor then Cairne death but I digress)

The book is also the source of the white washing of Camp Taurajo which went against it’s in-game presentation

I don’t think it’s minor since it’s important to understanding Jaina’s role in Dalaran’s Purge. It is more minor than Cairne’s death though.

Its ingame representation was as grey/if not more so then the books. It was a target because it trained/supplied warriors and the Alliance tried to avoid civilian casualties.

To me, there were two interpretations for what Ion said about Void Elf Paladins.

“I think there are things besides their hair color that would make Void Elves unappreciated Paladins by their order.”

  1. He was saying that Void Elves would be unappreciated Paladins by their order (order being the rest of the Void Elves)
  2. He was saying that Void Elves would be unappreciated Paladins by their order (order being the organization of Paladins)

In Interpretation #1, there are 2 additional interpretations:

  • a) They would be unappreciated Paladins by the rest of the Void Elves due to being Light based Paladins and therefore against what being a Void Elf is.
  • b) They would be unappreciated Paladins by the rest of the Void Elves due to being a Void based Paladin and therefore different from what a traditional Paladin is.

In Interpretation #2, there are also 2 additional interpretations but they’re reversed.

  • a) They would be unappreciated Paladins in the eyes of other Paladins due to being a Void aligned race using the powers of the Light.
  • b) They would be unappreciated Paladins in the eyes of other Paladins due to being a Void based Paladin and therefore the complete opposite of what a traditional Paladin is.

I feel the most logical interpretation of the line is either #1B and/or #2B but mostly #2B.

We know that Light and Void can’t mix. This is a fundamental law that has been established within the WoW canon. This is why for a Void Elf Paladin to work, they would need to be using the Void instead of the Light and thus aren’t a traditional Paladin by the standards of other Paladins. Even though Void Elves have High Elf customization, that doesn’t mean they’re no longer infused with the Void. That choice of customization simply means their body wasn’t infused with enough of it to cause permanent alterations.

That argument isn’t gone, read above and below.

This is false. Void + Fel mixing doesn’t result in negative outcomes.

The only example that supports it is the raid boss Xhul’horac from HFC during WoD. He was a Void entity that was infused with Fel, and after absorbing too much began violent erupting. This isn’t speculation either, as it is specifically described in his journal entry that he is being filled with “overwhelming fel energy”. Anything, however, filled with an overwhelming amount of any cosmic force would result in violent eruptions. Thus, it has nothing to do with specifically the combination of Fel and Void occuring. The logical conclusion to this is that the combination of the two is completely fine, but once there becomes too much then there are problems.

These next two examples seem to get overlooked.

First we have Shadow-Lord Iskar, from the same raid. He was an Arakkoa cursed by the Void energies of Sethe. All cursed Arakkoa are, in a way, similar to Void Elves. Iskar eventually struck a deal with Gul’dan to be infused with Fel to return to his original form and granted the ability to fly once again. This is another example of Void and Fel being combined, and no where in his encounter does it imply he is experiencing and negative side effects. There are even constructs and abilities used during the fight that imply magic that is combining Fel and Void into singular attacks (Shadowfel).

Last, we move to the Felhounds of Sargeras. Both were demons (fel creatures) and one is described as having been infused with void energy. This is one of the clearest examples of fel and void mixing, and resulting in zero problematic outcomes. It’s basically Xhul’horac but in reverse.

Thus, Void + Fel are allowed to mix. With any amount/type of energy though, too much will be bad.

This is also false.

Light + Death mixing doesn’t result in catastrophic outcomes.

There are several examples of Undead using the Light in the form of Priests and Paladins.
Undead still believe in the importance of the Light, which is why they ensure the teachings of both the Void and Light are carried on.
Undead Priests that use the Light feel negative sensations, but they are not physical. They regain their sense of smell, feeling, and do feel pain, etc. but those sensations aren’t causing them physical damage to their bodies.
There are also now 2 examples of Horseman that have shown they can still access the Light.

In the case of Lightforged Draenei, because they are infused with the Light they would experience the negative sensations on a regular basis.
No evidence suggests they are no longer Lightforged.

If this is referring to the ability for the player to make a Lightforged Draenei Priest and play Shadow spec, then that is purely for gameplay purposes.

Canonically, there are zero Void wielding Lightforged Draenei and no Light wielding Void Elves as both of those instances would result in violent outcomes.

There were never any valid arguments against Undead Paladins, this interview response didn’t exactly change anything.

When Alleria was still training under Locus Walker, physical touch did cause them pain. In one of the more recent books involving them, that seems to have either been forgotten or they both found a way to get around it.

However, in BfA it was shown when Alleria returned to the Sunwell that even when she wasn’t in Void Form, her just briefly touching the Sunwell caused a violent eruption due to the Void within her mixing with the Light within the Sunwell.

Except we know they do mix. Naaru are that mix. Light and Void are a cycle.

Anyways, I think if Ion had meant to say, “We’re not adding Void Elf Paladins because Void and Light don’t mix,” he’d have just said that. He worded it in a way that avoided that, and even went on to say that no combination is off the table.

Physical touch caused them pain because she had JUST used a Void Rift so they could escape from Argus. In other words, she was still empowered with void magic.

I don’t recall her even touching it. It was her proximity that acted as a beacon which enabled the Ethereal to locate it.

Naaru are a totally different case, and even the idea of the forces mixing with them is questionable.

We simply don’t know how their cycle works.
We have no information on how the transition process plays out.

I don’t see it as them slowly losing Light and it being replaced with Void.
To me, the process is more like the Light is slowly decreasing and nothing is replacing it, and only after the supply of Light is completely gone do they start filling with Void.

Additionally, I interpret that Ion meant that they can always make certain combinations make sense. Again, Light + Void can’t mix, so a Void Elf Light-Paladin can’t exist just as a Lightforged Draenei with some new Void class wouldn’t be able to exist.

Ion meant that they can adjust that class to make it work. Changing the Paladin to Void for Void Elves, changing the Void class example to a Light class for Lightforged.

If this were true then Turalyon using the Light to restraint the orc mother and smuggler father in Shadow’s Rising while Alleria was using the void to pry information from their minds would’ve resulted in those people exploding instantly.

If it were true then the Lightforged Draenei would explode every time they used a Void Rift, but again, we see them using them with nothing more than feeling, ‘unsettled.’

I haven’t seen a single case of the Light and Void mixing and resulting in an explosion, but I’ve seen numerous cases of these powers being used in tandem, if unwillingly.

The Horde BfA Epilogue and the creation of the Horde Council confirmed Rokhan and Thrall as the Darkspear and orc leaders.

My theory is that Nathanos will return as a raid boss. Upon his death Sylvanas will have a moment of genuine remorse and reflect on everything bad that happened because of her alliance with the Jailer. Blizzard will attempt to use his moment to generate sympathy for her and players reaction, will be split between as they over Sylvanas as a person.

We covered that. It was a slip up on my part. I like your theory.

Oh. I didn’t notice.

Thank you.
