Oh I see what you are doing Blizzard. You will most likely discontinue this free server transfer right before ICC is released. You hope that all Alliance transfer to benediction thus when ICC is released there will be server Q’s on benediction and than make people pay to transfer off benediction to Pagle. You greedy sons of gunz.

Can anyone explain to me why this is happening?
- Sulfuras was one of the high pop servers upon WoTLK release with a relatively 50/50 balance.
- Locked for incoming transfers its entire existence. People begging Blizz to open it up so they can play with their friends even as the population drops to Medium.
- Most Alliance transfer off making this a 90/10 Horde server.
- Sulfuras becomes a Medium Pop server. Still locked for transfers BTW.
- Remains this way through phase 2 into phase 3. Still a medium pop server, activity noticeably down.
- Blizz offers free transfers off of the server to one of the 3 MEGA FULL servers???
Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Asinine decision.

This is really amazing!
I think the simple explanation is that this is happening because it’s what people wanted.
Back when Wrath first launched, they had free transfers off of some of the highest pop realms to Sufuras for a while, they then opened up a new realm Eranikus, and that filled up, too!
But there were people at the time warning against taking those free transfers, because even though the destination realms were filling up, they said they would die out and eventually, they started to…
Why?
Partially due to normal attrition, partially due to people wanting to play elsewhere (I.e. the biggest servers). Having free transfers back is a way to let people who may have transferred all or many of their characters to some of these servers that are not being played.
As an example, I had transferred my Whitemane Alliance to Eranikus with the free transfers. I’ll happily move them to Benediction and play with friends who have been bugging me to play with them there.

It is sadly business as usual that Blizzard’s management of the realms is atrocious. Once again struggling realms like mine are left off the transfer list in favor of mega realms that already have most of the players. It’s pretty clear which realms are Blizzard’s favorites and which they don’t give a crap about. But if you want all players on the same 4 realms, then open up free transfers from ALL other realms, not just Eranikus and Sulfuras. Blizzard always cherry picks which realms you can move from and to, leaving others in the dust.
RIP Sulfuras. It’ll be dead August 1st.
We’ll do that as soon as you give a crap about this game. BGs are still loaded with bots btw.

OK but how does letting people transfer from Medium pop servers to FULL servers help solve the issue of queue times per the OP? This is so backwards.

4 servers in 4 years. All free transfers to escape a dying realm caused by the free transfers. This is so much fun. The one constant? Each server had an influx of queue time refugees from the mega servers prior to opening free transfers off.

People want to be able to do content, that simple. Megaservers are a solution, but a piss-poor one that comes with a host of lag, login queue, economy and other gameplay issues.
Here’s an idea:

Put in the RDF people have been asking for. It was added in original wrath to address this exact issue. It should have been in for phase 1 of TBC.

Incorporate the retail cross-server LFG system and allow people to raid cross-realm. The only issues would be with server first achievements but it’s easy enough to disqualify that if in a cross realm group. You already have cross realm for PVP, would be just as beneficial for PVE.
Instead you force the people who want to play the game without the constant boosting and GDKP trash back onto these megaservers instead of properly addressing the glaring issues causing server populations to dwindle late tier.

Sure, some people begrudgingly play the game we all love and enjoy, and incessantly complain on these forums. I suppose that’s fun for them.
I’m happy with these free transfers, and see it as a good thing. Of course, I’m also happily enjoying my time playing a game that I like.
Pagle is not the place to be – other servers are where you want to go, especially Benediction and Faerlina.
I must be honest – it does seem rather greedy of them to take the money knowing that these transfers were coming, but I suspect this is a case of one hand does not know what the other hand is doing and vice versa.
Most likely just ask for a refund if it’s been less than 24 hours, and see what they say:

All transfers should be free… Stop forcing people to pay to play on active servers or off queued servers just to pay to move back unless you do these free transfer bs.

I transfered 8 charcters off skeram a week or two before free transfers and they didnt give me a refund because blizzard loves scamming their playerbase for more money.
