Forum Life: How Do You Interact?

I try to stick to A, but sometimes you interact with someone and it’s like talking to a brainwashed cultist and it turns into C.

I would agree that sometimes they are not needed, but when things start to get overly heated for no reason, I tend to find at least one source to help calm the situation and offer some logical reasoning. Although, after nearly 6 months of being back on these forums, I am rapidly suspecting that some people just have to yell here, because they have no one to yell at for what is actually bothering them.

Dammit…

Match point to Dracarian.

Without the permission of the squirrel community, I feel it would be an insult and an affront to allow others to label themselves the same way nice women named Karen probably hate the new age description of “Karen”.

I will link citations if I can before people ask. I have no issues finding the information for people because I brought it up. It’s the information I’m giving out.

But you’re not wrong about people getting offended or dismissive about being given the information. They want to stay ignorant on purpose, because it doesn’t fit their narrative.

There was a point in time where giving people information was a good thing. Now it’s an insult and information isn’t wanted.

It’s frustrating to me. Reminds me of the opening scene for Newsroom.

“We aspired to intelligence. We didn’t belittle it. It didn’t make us feel inferior. […] And we were able to do all of these things because we were informed.”

It is not that I find it hard to give a citation or upset. I feel that if people really cared to know, genuinely wanted to be informed they would look it up. That the question is more performative then anything else. I also will state what is my opinion and sometimes give information on how I came to form it.

Option B it is.

I’m Option A, whilst a lot who respond to me are Option B (of course not everyone, but a lot of people). Because I maintain strong opinions which people perceive as insults, which then devolve into me defending my position… which people perceive even more as insults.

And I am sure that folks are going to keep doing this, as it happens on the regular from multitudes of people.

This is the frustrating part when trying to take part in a conversation. I don’t care about being wrong, there is no shame in that. I enjoy talking to people with differing opinions, point of views, and/ or experiences. There used to be a time when you could have conversations without it being full of conspiracy theories, misinformation, hate and fear…there is a lot of fear. Now it feels like you have to write a whole dissertation just for it to be ignored or called fake.

It is just easier to post memes at this point.

If I had to pick one, I’d pick D. I don’t find flinging insults useful, so I generally don’t do it.

Note that I didn’t say I find it wrong or uncivilized, I don’t find it useful. Language is a tool, it’s something I use to accomplish a purpose, and that purpose is only rarely advanced by making people hate me.

Glad I’m not the only one who reads him like an open book.

Only 2 of the 26 posters in this thread went immediately to Option B. At least they came in just being themselves.

Like 95% of the posts on here are fluff or repetitive (example: “same old same old” topic such as crying about M+, but from a slightly different angle) from what I see

I do enjoy the original/organic threads though, the off-topic threads can be interesting as well
