I see that some changes are on the horizon for the forums. One of them is that posting characters will be consolidated so features like posting history and ignore will be Bnet wide, not character specific. This is great, especially for the ignore feature. (I wish they would make that ignore change in game, too!)
My question is, what about the flags? Currently, if you run out of flags, you can switch to another character and have more flags (not that this occurs with any frequency, but it’s nice to have). Will the flag limitation be the same after these changes? Will swapping characters still allow for more flags?
Right now we don’t get more flags. The limit is 5 per person per day once migrated. Same as the other Bnet forums.
I can’t speak for them, but I can say they will be watching the forums and the forum software has the ability to locally change that per forum group if needed. Account wide Ignore should hopefully be able to resolve some of the squabbling and insulting that was going on and reduce flag needs.
I have not found that I really needed more most days and my account has been migrated since Dec.
I thought this was only if abusing the flag system in order to report the same post over
Unless I am wrong about this, but I’m pretty sure that if you have run out of flags on your character, and you find a post that you think is in violation, and have not flagged it, you’re able to use an alt to flag it on any characters, assuming that the alt has the ability to flag a post, it is safe to flag the post.
If I am incorrect about this, someone might want to correct me on this.
Yep! That is the rule Ayukama. Right now, people can switch chars to flag OTHER posts if they run out without penalty.
What they can’t do is use multiple chars to flag the SAME post, or to flag a specific user on every post they make - if the posts don’t break the rules. Like if someone switched chars to flag every post I made that would be abusing the reporting system.
Once the migration is complete, that becomes a moot point as Flags and Likes are Wow Bnet bound. We can’t like the same post twice, or flag the same post again. It eliminates that form of abusing the report system entirely.
People would need other Battlenet accounts to do it. There are a few who do that…but that is not common.
Thanks for the update. Obviously the switching characters for more flags is NOT to flag the same post multiple times. Please don’t do that. I do, however, find that I occasionally run out of flags and have to wait out the timer, so maybe they would consider bumping the limit from 5 to 10. Limited flags could lead to people trying to ration their flags, hoping that someone else flagged a post they they might otherwise have flagged.
I do hope people become more thoughtful with flags, instead of using them to win arguments.
I imagine at present, the mod team needs to deal with a large number of false positives. Hopefully with a reduced load they can focus on making the forums a welcoming space.
Moderating inappropriate posts makes the forums a more welcoming place. What else do you think they should be doing in that regard that they’re not already doing? I honestly don’t see a problem with allowing 10 flags a day instead of 5. Currently, it’s effectively infinite since you can simply swap characters for more flags.
Well, yes and no. Moderation does tend to step in and moderate where they can, but the forums do move pretty fast at times, esepcially in the General Discussion forums, and they can’t just be everywhere at once. They do rely more on player reports, but some people just rather engage with the bad actors rather than reporting and ignoring, so it isn’t always an easy job for moderation.
The old forums used to have a downvote system. In 2017, the downvote was removed, because it wasn’t going the way according to plan, and people were using it the wrong way
So, people resorted to using the report feature to report post. When the forums intergrated to Discourse in 2018, Blizzard added a limit to how many post a user can flag per day to help people be wise with flagging post rather than just “flagging it because I don’t like it.”
How ever, if you wish to make the suggestion to increase the flag limit, you could submit that suggestion here.
Yeah… that was awful. People were relishing in their downvote count.
But as I said, the limit is 5 per character, so the new limitation of 5 per Bnet is extremely more restrictive.
That appears to be a bug report forum. That said, this thread was simply for discussion of the new limitation so I could have a better understanding. I’ll try to find a suitable “suggestion box”.
Do you know an easy way to check our character’s armory profile after the change? Before the change I could click on my portrait and see a link to the armory, like I can with other players. Now when I click my portrait it just takes me to my Bnet profile and no armory link I can find for the current character I’m posting with.
I am afraid not. That function seems to be currently not working. I do not know if that is intentional or if it is something they plan to fix down the road.
For now, you would want to search and then bookmark your own page if that is what you want fast access to.
People should not abuse the report(flag) button when he or she reads something that he or she disagrees with. It’s better to do nothing or agree to disagree. False reporting is a form of dishonesty that annoys both the person who got flagged and the moderator who has to deal with it.
