Can I disable this ?
None of my characters need or want this feature.
It has always made them worse off.
They all wear heirloom gear and have much bigger bags, and their action bars are how I want them.
From what I have read, it locks them out of Heritage Armour leveling progression.
The characters that have this one them are all there because I no longer have ample time to level them.
This may be ok for character boosts, but this is NOT the case for me, none of these are for boosts.
You don’t have to use the gear update, just select the character then enter.

There was a bug. It has long since been resolved.
All you have to do is log into the character like normal. You’ll get a pop up:
Just hit continue and it’ll disable the option for the gear update.

As others pointed out, you can skip it. But I took the upgrade on all my characters and just vendored all of it…free gold.

I wasn’t sure how to skip it. There are “back” and “update” buttons. I clicked the upper-left button to close the window, then didn’t enter because I don’t know if that skips the update. Does it?
Just log in like normal. Don’t click on anything on the left with the Gear Update interface. Just by clicking “Enter World”, you will get the pop-up like this image shows. If you do NOT want the update, just hit continue and get back into things with that character.

Problem with that is the lockout from being able to do dungeons or raids after you take it. Not the best solution to those who don’t know it will act as a boost and prevent their allied race from getting heritage armor either.
Actually, the heritage armor thing was a bug that was fixed some time ago. It’s been confirmed that it should NOT affect heritage armor any more.

That’s good to know.
Your only locked for 24hrs its a unfortunate sideaffect but its used to prevent hackers from abusing the system.
