Dragonriding is flying though. What you said certainly pertains to Soar as if you don’t start off high you prolly won’t get too far, but not dragonriding. Dragonriding I can start at the ocean and fly to the highest mountain, then dive all the way back down and fly back up again. After that I could go do a few laps of the island for fun if I really wanted. All without ever touching the ground.
Edit: Razortail said it better than me. I hit reply from too far up. Sorry, didn’t mean to step on your toes there.

They said something vague. They made no commitment.

I hope they dont add it until the prepatch.
May I ask why you feel that way, Sallih?
Zero reason to have normal flying with dragonriding. The only reason to add it would be when the expansion is finished. Even then its iffy.
It’s not being passed off as anything. As is, it’s better than old flying.
Would you mind elaborating on what you mean about there being zero reason to have normal flying with dragonriding? Do you mean that Dragonriding fills the same niche so normal flying is redundant? Or did you mean something else?
That is not an accident.
They did similar word salad in systemlands. But since they had a huge drop off from launch they started to be more forthcoming with when normal flying would be available.

The trouble I have had has been from starting on a flat surface, it’s much easier if you can start from elevation.

Pro tip-
Jump, Skyward Ascent, carry your arc up into the air and back at the ground for a second to generate momentum, then press Skyward Ascent again while turning to face directly up.
Most of the time, if you level off on/slightly after the second wing flap of your Ascent, you’ll carry the surging momentum forward to keep generating Vigor.
Using Skyward Ascent while facing directly upwards when you have any kind of momentum will basically throw you directly up in the air. You just need to make sure you level off to keep momentum.
I can see why people enjoy it, but people having seizures and personally having severe motion sickness means I just want to fly my putt putt 310 mount around instead of feeling like I need to puke every time a big cliff is in the way.
Blizz seriously needs to add the option to use standard flying for the disabled, its not fun having a bucket by your chair just because so many quests are “see that thing way up there?” yeah go get that for me" where there are no ground paths to the quest objective.

One trick I found today is to spam skyward ascent all at once instead of trying to space things out. By spamming it, you can just point your dragon directly upwards and get ridiculous elevation gain. Using this very simple technique, I managed to go from sea level to the top of Thaldraszus Apex (highest peak) in 2 minutes (with maxed perks).

Count me as a hater. I can’t even fly through the damn circles.
Sounds perfect for us gatherers who need to make short hops and be able to make small ascends and descends, not leap to the moon and glide across the zone.
Dragon flying is garbage; instead of giving the dragon the ability to fly at like 100% mount speed all the time and then having those cool mechanics putting the proverbial icing on the cake, we’re stuck with a lackluster glide to the ground, then waiting, for 2-3 charges to get to a quest or race and also waiting with your thumb in your dragon behind to get mineral nodes.

So dont start from the floor start from high…so somehow you need to find a high enough place to fly from (using your reg mode of travel)…umm in every dragon movie and cartoon I have seen in my entire life dragon take off fron the floor too…not just high peaks…they need to fix that not to use vigor when you take off from the ground…there the problem and the solution.all the quests are ground level not up in the sky other than the dragon races and the glyphs…fix that and dragon riding is fixed…simple and easy…
As if swimming in the air was “flying”
It’s better then walking, i can’t complain to much.
Adamsism. It’s from Hitchhikers.
