For those who hate the WoW Monk, what chnages do you want?

i find windwalker fun to play, i wish they’d ditch hit combo all together. and mark of the crane.

WW spec specifically seems to have a middle of the road population size, way above survival, and way, way below ret pally. It doesn’t seem like a meta spec, but when I’m out in the wild i get insane numbers that make me wonder why it doesnt get mentioned with the big boys like frost mage and mm hunter, and doesnt seem to do well in mythic raid.

So to answer OP’s question, succinctly, is that the animations could be improved to be less silly, and some of the defensives are a little clunky. But it’s a great spec and I love my white tiger Xuen.

I also vote for more Son Goku monkey king wukong style moves, strike of the wind lord from the artifact feels weird to use.

Half the fun of WW is the animations. I also really like MW animations when I could be a ranged healer.

I’m not what this post asked for but I wanna say things anyways:

Please update the visuals. The most recent ones added because of hero talents and the update to JFS look great but make the current ones look not that great. Whirling Dragon Punch in particular looks so BAD in comparison to basically everything in Paladin’s entire kit if I’m being honest. Would be cool to have like an actual dragon image come out.

I’m honestly pretty content with MW, and I don’t play BrM so I can’t comment on it specifically but I wish Fists of Fury was updated to something new entirely. Maybe make it faster or something but it kinda feels bad for it to hit as awful as it does despite it being a heavy hitter

It needs to do like 10x as much damage to make it feel good to be locked in to that flow-breaking animation for so long.

The contrast with Eye Beam is embarrassing.

The entire class just sucks, it is the only class I could not bring myself to play any spec, at all. it’s so damn boring and honestly quite ineffective, like you can be a good or even awesome monk tank or healer, but it will require significantly more effort and work to match other tanks and healers and even then they’re most likely be better than you while not feeling like a chore to play.

I love my Monk (which is my main) but I wouldn’t mind:

  1. Our melee range being increased by a couple of yards, as it was in Dragonflight. Other classes have a tremendous advantage in damage output, and we often have to stand almost directly on top of mobs (increasing the risk of getting hit by frontals) to maximize damage.
  2. Fists of Fury has an extremely narrow frontal cone. If a regular group of mobs are spread out in front of you while being tanked, its often impossible to hit all of them with Fists of Fury. Finding the right positioning increases the likelihood of exposing yourself to unnecessary damage.
  3. The lack of proper tuning. Windwalkers spent the majority of this season being the second-worst spec in M+, only slightly ahead of Beast Mastery.

Those are my 3 main complaints.

It originated from the brewmaster unit all the way back in Warcraft 3. The ability made a lot more sense when WW used more brews/teas with the original monk design back in MoP but the ability also functioned quite differently back then as well.

I’m far more casual these days so my gripes are mostly nothing important or urgent.

All of the keg attacks for brewmaster are really tiny kegs and I don’t understand why. I get that WoW and blizzard games in general have issue with visual mess for players but it just makes the attacks feel so weak.

I wish the dodge animation was either more exaggerated for the monk class or given a unique one, at least for brewmaster.

Zenflight should get a dragon flying option, as well as customizable, at very least with more colors.

I love Monks, there’s not much I would change other than tweak numbers/tuning to make them more viable in specific content.

Also, bringing back old BrM stuff like old stagger, explosive keg, and pretty much how it worked in MoP and Legion.

I’d also add more flavor/fluff things like being able to carry all staves/polearms over the shoulder, etc.

Allow BrMs to set up a cart/keg and actually sell/give brews as alcoholic drink.

More RP stuff.

Heres one i forgot. I iwsh BrM was the DPS spec and WW was the tanking spec. Throwing kegs is too fun.

I love monks, have quite a few and this guy has been my main since MoP.

That said, overall I don’t mind the powers, but I think the weapon usage is kind of annoying. You can equip one handed items as a WW, but they don’t use them except for fist weapons. They sit on their back which looks cool just standing there and they hold them when doing things like the flying kick, but otherwise useless. I wish they had more movement using things like swords, or a staff, and I tend to think of characters like the TMNT when I have them equipped. I want to see them swinging the staff or polearm around, doing flips and movements with them etc. I’d like to see them swing swords and mace weapons around, or have them use a sai like a fist weapon instead of a dagger.

I think a lot of classes miss out on weapon usage. Mages and warlocks should be using their staves out in front of them or slamming them on the ground to do powers, not sitting on their backs all the time. I’m sure we could all come up with more ways our characters could use weapons better. Just my thoughts about monks though, although overall I don’t mind them as is.

It does not have a reroll ability to warrior

I like my windwalker monk, please don’t change him.

What I’ve learned from this thread.

  1. People love Monk as it is currently.
  2. It’s [maybe?] public opinion that Monk sucks and needs change.

The takeaway? You could probably make the same thread on any other class and get answers.

…?

The thread is asking for feedback from people who dont like the current iteration of Monk. I dont think you could take away much from this thread.

get rid of the button bloat and rework brewmaster completely.

Yes, that’s my point - if you want a melee class that attacks with their staff, your best pet is probably Survival Hunter. And if you want the class to look as kung-fu as possible doing that, roll a Pandaren as your race.

It’s possible that Blizzard will tweak monk staff animations so they use the weapon more in the future rather than leaving it on their back while they punch and kick, but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that.

The amount of monks that don’t realize you can cancel FSK is kinda wild.
