You hear in general IF chat, hey guys there’s a battle at southshore. You group up with couple friends and hop on a gryphon arrive there and it takes a moment to load. You go and you see lots of people fighting. Your small group sneaks around to side and engages in the battle. You are nit part of the raid, there are small groups battling it out.
With sharding, your small group would get sharded and when you arrive you’d be like what battle, I don’t see any battle and leave in dissapointment.
Eh… it could also mean you just missed the battle due to travel time. Who really knows how long it had been going on by the time that fella arrived in Ironforge to talk about it?
There will have to be hard caps to servers, sharding or not.
They will have to have ques, sharding or not.
They will have to get the servers running smooth with hundreds of players in the same area for a multitude of reasons and cannot sort that porblem out to sharding if they really intend to remove it(sharding) after a “few weeks” (which in itself could be months right there).
ALL that SHARDING does is degrading a ONCE IN A TIME launch event to feel more convenient as there wont be as much people and competition.
Sharding will not remove the potential need for server merges.
Sharding will, with most certainty, hurt the fundamental idea and core of the game in a multitude of ways.
One of 'em beeing players quitting – or as in my case – not playing Classic at all.
We do? Where? I seem to be the most pro-sharding person in this discussion near as I can tell. I’m not anywhere close to that. Are you spending quality time with a strawman off-screen?
If that launch event means server instability, constant crashing, and login qeues… if that’s ALL it is to you… I’ll be glad to have missed it due to sharding.
Gates of AQ however is another thing entirely. I may not particularly care for that raid, but that’s not an event I want to miss thanks to qeues.
And this is when modern server tech should kick in, not sharding.
If you want the calm “sharding like” experience, wait a few weeks as people have recommended you to do a couple times over.
Let the people who asked for this for over a FREAKING DECADE have the game THEY FOUGHT FOR and put your “retail privilege attitude” to rest for a second.
24/7 no.
A gree that it matters? A Guild being able to abuse the ability to farm these without competition? I think that matters. You might not but I do.
It also sounds like an exploit that would be reportable, and potentially worthy of temp bans if discovered that they were deliberately trying to spawn a shard so they could harvest resources.
