considering how much money they could make off that? i’m sure they would have some volunteers. i’d have gladly done it in vanilla to help fund my mount.
see here’s the problem with this statement.
you are thinking about this from the mindset of a retailer and not from the mindset of someone who is a fan of classic.
I know where you are coming from and would normally agree with you on a new game.
But I am so desperate to get my old game back with its living and breathing community that I am willing to wait behind queues, deal with large player populations and even server instability - as long as it means I can login to WoW like it was 2006 - when realms were like neighborhoods, when people relied on your unique class skill to make it through a dungeon and your reputation mattered to get into a guild and when you logged in and leveled up because you could help your friends and they could help you - all while having fun together.
In that kind of atmosphere (absent of all modern conveniences like sharding) people kept logging on in spite of server problems, high population, sleep, work, school, etc. lol!
I want friends to matter again in WoW.
I want to matter to my friends again.
Sharding physically separates people from potentially becoming (or needing) friends.
I am absolute rubbish at explaining and articulating myself. I’ve said this multiple times. …Can’t recall if that was on these forums though.
You ARE vilifying me for being all for a solution to the login problem even if that solution isn’t exactly desirable even to myself. I don’t want sharding either. But I want login qeues and server merges even less.
I believe I was in Qs maybe 10 times up to wrath. Server shut down a few times. That is in a 4 to 6 year window. When that happened it was back in 15 mins.
there isn’t a log in problem. you don’t want to sit in queues at all. i understand that. but you’re thinking about this like someone from retail.
like i said- you can have sharding when it has ZERO DOWNSIDE.
you have to seperate your expectations for classic from retail.
Dude. I want Classic back too. Even with sharding it’ll still be a thousand times better than BFA.
I don’t want sharding. But I do want to actually be able to log in and not miss things because Blizzard’s servers are crap. If I miss something, I want it to be MY fault, not Blizzard’s.
So maybe a gold a person? They could do better simply not helping you spawn shards. And that’s assuming that they were already planning to farm gold during that time.
Those leveling/casual guilds? Guess what their member are doing? Leveling and dungeons.
no, the retail mindset is adding something because it has a good side, but ignoring the bad sides.
case in point look at the inclusion of LFR and LFD - they got added because people wanted them for the good. and they have ignored the bad.
in classic that doesn’t fly.
we’ve seen what happens when people add something with good intentions and ignore the bad sides.
Except it’s obvious that trying to exploit sharding on a single server with no CRZ is a hugely time consuming effort that doesn’t generate enough returns to make it worth the effort.
You are pretending that someone can just click a magically create new shard button, which you kind of can in retail because of CRZ. Without CRZ trying to spawn new shards just to farm resources would be a complete waste of time.
but sharding isn’t the only way you can have classic.
you can have an unsharded (after launch) classic. you might have to deal with queues from time to time, but hey, guess what? that’s vanilla for you.
