For those against sharding at launch

you could - all i got to do is get together with a few guild leaders and organize a farming expedition.

I think Blizzard understands this problem and will try to avoid sharding. They’ve stated wanting to avoid things like multiplying rare/uncommon items and world bosses.

I wish blizzard would make a server with sharding and one without. Players from sharding server cannot transfer.

Let’s do it as a test.

Hmm I am for it.

and just like that laeric is now permanent sharding. look at that. surprised? nope.

Honestly if people are willing to organize hundreds of people just to force a shard to spawn so they can farm a handful of black lotus I think they deserve it.

so you’re telling me lotus wasn’t rare? hmm.

yeah because it’s so hard to organize that. oh wait. no.
no sharding in vanilla beyond launch.

And for anyone who thinks this wouldn’t happen. . .

I was one of the guild leaders in a massive 200+man assault team during MoP. My server did stuff like that with no problem. And that’s one faction, cross factions working together for farming could happen even. To abuse sharding.

No, I’m not for permanent sharding. You’re literally ignoring the parts of my post where I said “I hope it’s not needed” just so you can vilify me.

Shut up and leave me alone.

you literally also said -

so yeah.

Well CLEARLY that means I want them to find another solution.

Hmm… yeah i think that organizing that on any kind of on going basis would be extremely difficult.

Yes a lot of videos that fear monger like to pretend that jumping shards is easy and controllable but it’s not really.

then you should have said

and omitted the

  1. Because realm crashes, rollbacks, and unplayable game lag are “minor inconveniences” that players should embrace.

That you’re comparing “It’s taking me 15 seconds to complete casting SW:P, an instant cast spell” to “Wah, I have to compete with three other players for Thorium Veins” as equivalents says more about how dishonest you are being about the discussion.

  1. The queue discussion is another case where you’re trying to have it both ways. Measures to mitigate the queue during “peak tourist season.” Right around the launch window, is a means of getting the tourists into the game, exposed to enough of it to realize they ‘do not want’ and leave before Blizzard creates realms to specifically accommodate the volume of players they’re helping to generate.

Think of it as opening a flood gate on an earthen embankment dam. Because overtopping the dam isn’t going to lead to anything people are going to appreciate. (Underpopulated realms)

This also ignores the potential to have queues later on to address overpopulation in the level 30+ bracket.

  1. What? I wasn’t aware that the peacebloom and copper markets on the AH were that sensitive. I’m not sure how a potentially sharded SS/TM for example, is going to distort the game economy in any significant way either.

not really. in vanilla you know how many times i found casual/leveling/dungeon oriented guilds with hundreds of players on at once?

Let up a bit on Laeric. He doesn’t want sharding but is just trying to find routes different to what we are.

He is in this as honest as you and I are.

I included that bit in the off chance another solution isn’t possible.

Seriously, you’re just THAT eager to vilify me.

Also do note I said “Find another solution” FIRST. Clearly that means that’s my preferred route.

rather have those then exploitable sharding.

people should embrace queues. its a good sign. it means so many people are wanting to play the game that the server is full.

That all were all willing to drop whatever they were doing just so that they could spawn a couple more black lotus for someone else?

Yeah no, not buying it.

i’m not mad at him, just his point. he’s all ready to embrace sharding with open arms. either that or hes the worlds worst person at talking.
