I just want to be able to fly at top speed with Zen Flight, please, I beg of thee, Ion, my dear love.
Ha! Ion will deny you.
Mark my words, I will be Ion’s next long-term boi toi. Then pathfinder will finally be abolished. Flying mounts will be enabled to fly freely at launch in the new content.
That I can absolutely agree with. I don’t like the feeling of needing to be on every day either, I much preferred to be able to sit in one or two sessions and just go bonkers.
I still think there should be something so you can’t just get it week one of the expansion, but I think reasonably within the first 3-4 months it should be obtainable for all.
Good luck to you lol
Edit: and to the rest of us lol
I’ve been playing this game every week since Feb 05’. I was there for WoD and BfA. Both expansions that are competing for the title of worst expansion of WoW.
I’ve been around for the no flying debacle. I’m firmly in the camp of Pathfinder delayed flight for almost a year is a dumb idea. What you replied to was me saying this:
I’m saying anyone that believes Blizzard had any intentions of removing it from the game, including Ion, is delusional. Removing flight from WoW would be it’s downfall. It’s a dumb idea. Financially and from a game development side.
Not from Azeroth as it was during MoP, certainly, but they were going to leave it off from Draenor and all future expansions. Their problem with that was that they’d sold WoD with promises of flying as well as flying mounts, so they couldn’t take it back mid-expansion without it being false advertising. Diablo devs can’t work in a 3D world so they’d like to keep making faux-3D maps where we’re limited by mountains and water and hedged tightly into their mazes.
Then I’m saying that’s hard to believe, because you’re so far off-base that you must be a new player who wasn’t around on the forums for the two insane years prior to the release of this Polygon article:
The fact there was no firm release date for flying in WoD cost them an average loss of 1million subs per month for almost 5 straight months prior to the release of the above article.
WoD launched with 10million subs. Does a loss of half the player base seem like a marketing ploy ruse to you?
19 days later they reversed their new policy, and have never released sub numbers since. Imagine how many more sub numbers had to hemorrhage before some suit in finance finally woke up, attempted to administer triage, and the devs came up with their, “oops, our bad, we had no idea so many of you would quit over flying. So we’ll put it back but [we resent that you don’t want to listen to us tell you what’s fun, so we’re going to make flying so hard to earn, you won’t bother with it anymore, and in a few expansions from now, you won’t care when we don’t have it at all, so] you’re going to have to earn it with a quest chain we’re working on.”
I agree with you that removing flying is financial suicide, and should never ever have been considered, let alone spoken about as serious. But it was, and they did, for two years. Not weeks, not months. Years. Then said, “no more flying in future expansions…” not on their own website, but in an interview, released on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, on a third party website.
And apparently, they thought it would save them enough development money in the long run of not having to finish the landscape for flying (like both the Draenei and BElf starting zones), and the players would eventually accept no flying and move on, that it would be worth that kind of a financial hit.
That was five years ago. If they had since gotten those numbers back up, they’d be announcing them not only in weekly emails to shareholders, William Shatner would be back doing WoW commercials, only this time with Henry Cavill.
As for Pathfinder, I do love that it unlocks my entire account to flying in that expansion, so if I want to bring a level 60 alt to the BfA zones right now, I can, and they can fly. However, it’s far too torturous at present for access to one of the best features in the game. My changes would be:
- All of it in the game and available at launch.
- No nonsensical, punitive 9+ months-long wait.
- A single, very long, Pathfinder-specific storyline that takes you on a tour of the zones, giving you zone rep, and Parhfinder rep, instead of making you do all the content which ends up creating burnout and resentment that causes players to unsubscribe, sabotaging Blizzard’s time-played metric.
- Allowing players who want to pay gold for flying at level cap per toon like we used to, to do so. However, once done, that account is locked out of Pathfinder for that expansion.
BfA is a shining jewel (except for the horrible Sylvanas pathetic joke of a storyline), compared to the rock bottom dumpster fire insult of an expansion WoD was.
I do admit I’m thankful that I main Alliance, since that side of the content is far superior to the Horde side. I would likely not be enjoying BfA nearly as much as I am if I mained Horde. Playing my Horde alts through this has been a chore with the exception of the choice to go against Sylvanas questline.
Still. It’s not even close to WoD. The only redeeming thing about WoD is the exp you get for the treasures, so you can level through it in a day, and be done.

I didn’t read that Polygon article at the time it came out or after. I could care less about it. Ion may have flat out talked about removing flying, but at the time I would think the same thing. There is no way that will happen, ever.
I’m not talking about the correlation between flying and subscriptions. I’m sure what your saying has merit, but I was not talking about subs.
I was talking about anyone that believes the threat of removing flying was in any way ever credible. It wasn’t, never was, and never will be. The point being they already had flying mounts in the shop. They constantly put flying mounts in the shop since WoD. Anyone that took Ion’s threat of removing flight got duped. There is zero chance they will ever remove flying completely.
I’m in the pro flying camp. I don’t like Pathfinder. If it’s not removed it should be reduced from 10 months to less than 3 months.

I agree.

It’s hard picking which was worse. WoD was horrible, and up until BFA it was the worst expansion. They’re both horrible.
I guess we can all hope we get a new Lead Game Developer or maybe Ion will wake up?
Not sure who Ion is… But I am definitely on the pro-flying camp. The reasoning for making me grind through rep (some of the factions i can only do a lil each day simply because of lack of content and I can only go forward by doing like 6 WQs for (like the turtles)) is literally very weak. By what I understand is that they don’t like it because we’re allowed to skip over content. However, I’m paying good money to do whatever content I want. Why should I bow to someone else’s power trip on the issue? Flying was a good idea when they came up with it. Flying is a good idea now. It allows point A to B navigation very flexible. It gives you pride when u show up out of nowhere on your brand new prized flying mount that you literally spent weeks trying to get. To turn around and say, “hey, if you want to play the new content, then you have to wait months on end to get this stupid achievement because we’re upset u might not ‘appreciate’ our work on this content” is pathetic. Its your job to build content. Build content that attracts people to it. Don’t ram it down people’s throats because u want to dangle something that people actually enjoy over their heads in an effort to force them to do your crappy content. That’s just lazy content design. This is a game with literally 10k plus years of history with 100’s of thousands of pages of lore. You can build creative content that will attract people very easily. If you can’t, then get out and let Blizzard find someone who is actually creative. I think this option would benefit not only Blizzard financially, but will improve game quality for the end user. So I call for whoever’s bright idea it was to string us along for flying to either resign or be fired. Its completely absurd that he still has the ability to lord his ego over us.
Nuff said.

Not sure who Ion is…
Game Director in charge of World of Warcraft. Ion Hazzikostas.

Yea, stopped reading your post at that point tbh.
