With layoffs happening every so often. Maybe they can hire devs that don’t require there to be a part two to pathfinder.
If you “dread” logging in and are not having fun then maybe you need to walk away for a while and figure out what the deal is. Sometimes a player outgrows a game, sometimes a game outgrows a player.
Good post.
Patchfinder is a failed design and those that defend it can’t accept that it was cheaper for mains and alts in terms of gold/hr pre patchfinder compared to patchfinder.
Also patchfinder awards alts with an inferior version of flying.
Those that defend patchfinder have a low information threshold and thus fail to understand that they have been robbed.
People with alts did better under a WotLk model compared to patchfinder. That is the straight up truth!
Well that would be dependent on how many alts you have spread over how many servers. I believe 50 is the max number of toons per account… and you can only have what? 15 toons on any one server and for the sake of simplicity lets say their all the same faction? so 4 servers minimum where’d you have to grind the gold up again and again and again.
Yeah, this excuse I don’t get.
- If your content is poorly experienced by flying, then make the content flight-friendly.
- Who is anyone to tell me how this game is intended to be played. One thing Ion said is that the one metric they use to determine content is if it’s fun or not. So why they suddenly get to tell me what fun is?
- 90% of the questing content in this game are basic kill quests. So really, the integrity of moviong from kill zone to kill zone, doesn’t lose much of anything by flying. Unless you really think wading through trash and being blocked by a ravine every 20 minutes is riveting content that much be preserved.
You know maybe if Blizzard actually put forth effort in making ground travel more enjoyable, or making questing less trivial and mundane. But their map design hasn’t changed, questing hasn’t changed. In fact map design just seems to capitalize on the lack of flight just to make everything take ten times longer.
All I see, is a group of men who hate flying and want everyone else to hate it too. It’s the same thing we went through back when the developers who hated hybrid classes were in charge of class balancing. Selfish game designers who don’t care.
Pathfinder doesn’t improve the game. It just makes it all take longer.
If your immersion is destroyed by flight it should also be destroyed by summoning a mount out of nowhere that your legs disappear into.
It’s still a thing. It’s still spiteful and arrogant. It still sucks.
You want them to design mobs that are going to chase you down on your flying mount and knock you out of the sky?
Blizzard designed the game and made the rules… so they are the ones who get to tell you how the game is intended to played. Its their intentions - so they can tell you what they are if they choose to.
First of all Ion is terrible at figuring out what fun is a year in advance (which is when he makes decisions on xpacs) - everything is a reaction with his decision making to the previous xpac. He can’t tell you what you find fun - but he does have to make the call of what to develop well before you ever play it… and as such has to guess what fun is before you can. And then he has to defend those decisions as being the best decisions that could have been made at the time - inorder to justify keeping his job.
Basics of game design - game designers are trying to create things to kill your character and slow your progression through any game. To present a challenge which you have to overcome. If there’s no challenge in the obstacle - there is no feeling of victory when you overcome it.
If you can just fly over the obstacles… they is no challenge - and therefore no feeling of victory when you overcome them. At least from some developers perspective.
Whether we the player base agree with Blizzard developers on this is another question entirely… but that’s rough guess at their perspective on the matter.
For you. And few else.
If flying was unpopular, Blizzard would not have flying in any content from WoD onward, and few people would bother with flying mounts. Yet none of that’s true.
If you hate flying, why aren’t you exclusively playing Classic & posting on the Classic forums?
Actually, the backing for that claim is the series of events that occurred, and Blizzard’s own statements:
- Two years of players filling up the forums over not having a date when flying would be added to the game.
- The first 5 months of 2015 WoW was losing an average of a million subs per month (WoD launched with 10 million subs.)
- May 22nd, 2015, the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, this article was published announcing no more flight going forward: ~https://www.polygon.com/2015/5/22/8645293/world-of-warcraft-no-flying-tanaan-jungle-warlords-of-draenor-mmo-pc-blizzard
- 19 days later that decision was reversed:
19 days of nothing else happening regarding WoW.
How many more subs do you suppose they had to lose for such a reversal? Obviously enough that they no longer release subscription numbers.
When the investors started taking a paycut from Blizzard’s stupidity, things changed.
In the end the investors have the final say. And not even Ion can change that
This statement as written is false. It’s not an “award.” It unlocks flying for that expansion on your entire account.
If you have a level 80 with 310% flying, that is what unlocks for Pathfinder. Alternately, if you have a level 90 that you never upgraded from 150% flying, that’s what you’ll have until you spend the gold to upgrade.
That goes for all your current and future toons on your account.
Now if you meant something else entirely, please explain.
By adding it to the game.
Agreed.
The word you’re looking for is convenient. Not “better”.
If you dont wanna play the game without flying, dont play the game… it doesnt change anything lmao
So much this to all of yous who complain about pathfinder.
Every pathfinder hater makes me love it more.
That’s your opinion that the majority of players don’t share.
How cool for you that Classic is available, and there are ground mounts you can access in retail.
It’s so tiresome when anti flying people act as though you’re being forced to fly when you’re not.
If you hate flying, don’t fly. Simple. I don’t like PvP, so I don’t do it. Simple.
It’s your money. Play the way you enjoy. Just as it’s my money, and I will do the same
What neither of us gets to do is dictate how anyone else enjoys the game, or what content they participate in.
holy heck. i can’t agree enough. also, that is a LOT of +1’s.
No, that’s your word. Clearly.
Flying makes the game better for me also.
Let’s hear yours.
So no I dont think so.
