As they should be since they are spam. There is a single mega threat that has its post cap raised each time it is hit. Stick to that thread rather that creating multiple threads of the same topic. And yes: if you see other topics that are spammed flag those too.
Flags are reviewed and if the post was removed then there’s a reason for it.
That’s the thread I’m saying is constantly locked.
There are two threads. One arguing for them, one arguing against them.
They’re both flagged to the point of being locked. Daily.
I was taking a look at one of those locked threads reading some of the posts. Even though it’s locked you can still flag posts and like posts. Odd. But interesting tidbit…while I was reading the last post I noticed another person was ‘responding’ to it, their little icon was at the bottom of the topic.
Technically if people keep flagging posts within the locked topic it might never be opened.
The locks last 24 hours and the more a thread is closed, the more it gets attention from the moderators. We’ve actually had moderators respond in those threads before regarding false flags. They’re keeping an eye on both threads.
Only if you were actually dumb enough to care if people downvoted someone. Heck if anything that might help you with me. Since curiosity makes me show hidden comments.
Bornakk posted not too long ago stating that mods are watching for and taking action against flag abuse.
Yet they look at it after the fact, after it’s shut down by the system. Who knows when they look at it. Meanwhile a nice discussion gets stymied.
Indeed. But like any violations, they have to occur before being actioned. So it will still happen. It can’t be completely prevented, unfortunately.
Where is the damn ignore feature ,???
It’d be nice for an update.
Last we were told was that it doesn’t natively exist in Discourse. Thus, Bliz and the Discourse folks were investigating if one could be coded in.
You know as well as anyone else on the forum that if people were being punished for spam flagging threads many of those same people would be on the forum crying about being punished for it after their suspension/silence was up.
Bornakk can post all day long about some supposed actions they are taking against people like this but until threads start popping up from people it’s highly doubtful.
I was also a part of the High Elf discussion when it got shut down, I was dumbfounded, honestly.
This is why ya cant have community policing. It never works because mob rule takes over.
I agree that the Internet is a terrible, toxic place, but the apparent or fabricated femininity of male elves makes them a larger target than most.
Obviously this only applies to male elves, since everybody just wants to bang the female ones.
WoW puzzles me. Their thought leadership puzzles me.
There are so many places where no thought was applied and ill thought out or just plain random solutions were crowbarred into place because reasons.
And then there are thoughts like:
Downvotes are just a silent method of player-sponsored censorship for which no has to take any responsibility. If players want to disagree with each other, let’s not enable posters to hide behind a faceless downvote. Let’s get them out there in the thread. Let’s encourage them to disagree with words and ideas. People should have to defend their ideas and their dissent equally.
And that is an amazing idea. I mean, maybe its broken-clock syndrome, but this concept is a fantastic way of growing-up the posting quality and revealing those whose debate skills hang steady at “Yuh huh” and “nuh uhh”.
It’s such a good idea that it is out of step with the majority of coin-flip decisions I keep seeing from the company.
Ahh, but then we find that flagging exists, does the exact same thing as downvotes, and is policed with the ferocity of a tree sloth pillow-fight.
And there is the kind of administration I have come to expect. Clearly, logs are hard.
Full disclosure: I don’t know what goes into ferreting out flag abusers. But if you left an abusable system in place just hoping posters would use it responsibly and play nice…. 1 downvote from me.
With moderation being a forbidden topic, I personally wouldn’t depend that line logic. Sure, some do post about it, but for as few and far in between moderation posts are, flag abuse moderation could be happening as often as everything else.
Blizzard packed up and left over the past few years. The Activision skeleton crew is too far stretched to care.
…as was predicted in so many different threads on this subject, when first it came to light. The fact that upvotes were left in shows what a pathetic half-measure this was, and IS!
Quietly sits back in his embroidered gaming chair, sipping a cup of Irish Breakfast Tea.
You can’t honestly believe what you just typed. All of a sudden all these people who are abusing the flagging system are being punished yet none of them are crying about it. lol k
