Final Thread on Paladin Mobility (Wings of Liberty/Avenging Leap)

They do tend to over focus on what types of magic or weapons a class uses, or DW even. They even use ‘pet classes’ or summoning as excuses not give things too.

Pepperidge farm remembers the time we summon ancient guardian of the kings.

I believe this thread will likely end here.

Almost every angle has been touched on when it comes to Paladin mobility improvements. Specifically in the form of Wings of Liberty as a leap.

I’m sure Blizzard knows that a good proportion of their player base for this class want to see it.

We will now have to wait and see how things play out this upcoming Tuesday. If performance is still not up to expectations, I truly hope it’s considered to implement this ability as a choice node competing with Divine Steed.

Let us choose how we want utilize our movement. Either via a sprint or a gap closer. Nothing about this choice is game breaking or role-redefining.

They aren’t giving ret any further mobility. They decided to ‘fix’ the movement issues by making the class ‘unique’ and turning it into a full blown mid-range spec despite no one wanting or asking for it.

It’s going to be real fun getting perma kited by classes that have double the range.

From a PVP standpoint this rework was a total waste and a damn shame.

I look forward to the blue post on the 12.2.7 PTR:
“We agree that attacking from range while being a plate wearing class wielding a hulking 2-handed weapon feels off. We’re looking to correct this by bringing back the class fantasy of being a melee specialization.”

Ret has always had a bit of range outside of melee traditionally from the very beginning of WoW. But it was usually restricted to around 10 yards. But 20 yards is too much for a finisher. It make it next to impossible to use Empyrean Legacy and other such abilities, due procing them
out range. Rendering them utterly useless.
Plus it make the animation of Final Verdict look ridiculous from that distance.

WoD Ret had plenty of range too, and it had far more consistent mobility. While also having superior snare and root removal(Emancipation). Something Paladin have been capable of doing since the beginning. And it had a stronger snare then this “rework” does too.
So this claim of theirs that this 10 extra yards on Final Verdict(Because that all it boils down to really)is somehow enough, falls flat.

While having range on a couple abilities has always been a staple of the class, it’s never been centered around it like this.

I don’t know why they are so against just providing a talent like Long Arm of the Law. Having a ranged ability to temp boost speed and gap close was a great design and would have fit in perfectly.

I can only conclude that this is what happened behind the scenes for our maneuverability.

Too true, I feel like that messenger that gets pushed into the pit.

The Freedom dispel protection and loss of Hand of Hinderance might actually offset the positive mobility changes enough to where we are the same, if not worse than we are now in PvP in terms of mobility.

Now that the patch is live…

What are the initial thoughts regarding mobility?

I played around 5-7 2v2 arena matches before I had to log off to finish homework.

Ran as Ret/Resto Druid. We won all of our matches except for facing off against a Sub Rogue/Survival Hunter. This is right around 1500 CR.

The teams we beat were with ww monks, other rets and warriors. Overall my damage felt solid (maybe a bit high on burst) and survivability was a notch higher.

I will say for me, I sincerely do not understand why Wings of Liberty is off the table as a choice node competing with Divine Steed. It absolutely fits and the trade off between a “sprint” and gap closer fits perfectly.

Our judgment slow/sprint is hardly noticeable. Losing the range on Hammer of Justice is felt also. The range gained on Final Verdict is welcomed though.

I was unable to connect to the survival hunter and sub rogue and that was ultimately the cause of the loss. I’m sure I could have played better though.

This rework would be near PERFECT if I had the option to trade in Divine Steed for Wings of Liberty. This would in no way shape or form, be game breaking. Nor would it dismantle the dev team’s current philosophy for Paladin mobility.

That’s my initial thought so far before more testing.

We got the raw end of this whole thing… and they nerfed us at the last moment. I switched to Pally for DF and now I wish I didn’t. It feels like all of DF is now wasted for me. BLizzard screwed every pally out there and they think it’s ok.

Thank god they didnt put in the leap. I fought passionatly against this as i believe thr copy pasta lf a warrior ability is lazy.

and we got nothing in return, thank you

So instead of giving us Wings of Liberty, they indirectly made Ret near unstoppable in PvP.

After playing all day yesterday it’s easy to see we are performing very well. Much better than expected!

The inevitable nerfs are coming. Let’s just hope it’s not crippling.

It just goes to show that Blizzard is so adamant on denying us mobility, that they’re only other options to make us better make us OP by default.

This could have easily been avoided by adding in Wings of Liberty instead

Nice sarcasm!

Just remember to avoid the Blades of vengeance and the Templar strike/cursading strikes talents, they are undertuned.

You can take Templar strikes if you don’t take holy blades (making your skills into holystrike) talent though.

JV is also still a dead talent, as it does less damage then your base TV.

Don’t want ret to have an instant gap closer???

It proves nothing 30IQ guy. I play paladin and I 100% believe the leap is a stupid ability.

Then you must think our lore character’s is stupid then. They be leaping around since wrath.

This might just be a rumor, because i haven’t been able to find a source. But i’ve heard/been told that Heroic Leap was originally intended to be a Paladin ability. Hence why so many Paladin NPC’s does it. While pretty much no Warrior NPC’s does it.

But Heroic Leap was instead given to Warriors to better strenghten the themes of the three plate classes. That being

  • Warrior had multiple gapclosers, but had no way of dealing with snares or root effects.
  • Death Knights had the ability to deny movement through Death Grip and Chains of Ice.
  • Paladins had higher than average movement speed and were easily able to deal with snare and root effects.

Then Legion came along and we all know how that turned out.
