I honestly think it’ll be like Stormblood where things just normalize very fast, because it’s already happening. A lot of people are only there for the hype of the moment.
To max out fishing, yes.
Wouldn’t it only hurt even more if the game is good?
I mean if somebody were to see all these people waiting, would that make them inclined to get in to … maybe get a chance to play?.. because Squenix doesn’t have the server capacity for all these people?..
I’m just gonna go ahead and say it. Nobody likes waiting. If anybody has to wait in order to play an MMO, their just gonna most likely go and play something else in the meantime.
Have you seen the forums over there? People are absolutely not happy about the queues
Japan data center seems fine except for one world, Tonberry (which is largely an English speaking server). Queues are practically nonexistent now. Seems like the most problems with queues are for NA players/English speakers.
Golly gee, I wonder why that could be. Couldn’t be that former WoW players are flocking to these servers? Nah, couldn’t be that.
Not just former WoW players, but current WoW players who only play WoW for a month after content updates.
People used to play WoW year round. Now they play for a month and then move onto something else like FF14.
I have personally played FF14 about 3 times as much as WoW in the last year.
It’s not because I flocked there. I’ve been there for four years.
My comment wasn’t really directed at you, just at everyone who’s on Copium and blaming Square for these events. They should blame Blizzard for forcing this mass exodus upon their fellow ex-WoW players.
Blizzard is directly responsible for my playing FF14.
I really had no interest in it, and assumed it was like BDO and other Eastern company MMOs I had played in the past, but the utter hubris of the devs and the dumpster fire they have let the game become basically made me say “enough” and I tried FF14.
I may change my mind once the story runs out but that will likely take awhile, currently despite some items I dislike about FF14 it at least gets the benefit of the doubt I no longer am willing to give Team Train-wreck at Blizzard.
There are so many things wrong with FF14.
- They prioritize cleverness over clarity (free companies are guilds, Levequests are daily quests because leve means “to grant” so clever!, the auction houses is lol, crafting is needlessly complex, to make up for GCD classes have button bloat, the list goes on)
- They should steal polish from WoW (can’t repair just anywhere, have to do a quest to enter a lot of dungeons - be prepared to google where that quest is, the map is awful, ground effects in fights is great but associated vfx is incorrect, etc)
- The game is made for thirsty teenage weebs. Sure, WoW’s story can be bad and the puns are awful, but the cheesecake in this FF14 is hilarious and breaks immersion. The dialog is awful. Only a weeb game could get away with this.
- The world isn’t worth exploring. It is all instanced like an MMO from 2000.
- As the OP said, the community are awful if you poke them. They are nice, but if you’re not going to drink the koolaid that Yoshida bleeds, stay silent.
There are a lot of great things, though.
- They don’t tolerate trolls.
- The character models and overall art looks great.
- Despite the goofy dialog and thirst traps, the story is solid
- Dungeons are fun.
- Combat gets fun.
I’m sure it has been covered in the 109 replies, but the reason the que is unprecedentedly bad is because there has never been a chip shortage like this before. Think about how rare the PS5 is. And, they stopped allowing people to buy the game!
You do realize that “hot and sexy” plays well to male and female adults alike, which has lead to some of the dislike of WoWs puritanical bs.
Tis a Teen and up rating for a reason.
Counterpoints:
-
so you’re going to blast them over being unique? Weird point but ok.
-
the auction house (marketboard) is a mixed bag. it has some search features that are better than WoW’s IMO, but it’s also missing some things that would make it better. the lack of addons here does make it worse unfortunately. TSM was so good in WoW, but on the other hand it disadvantages people who can’t no-life the auction house cancel scanning all day long. In FF you can actually sell a lot of stuff while AFK AND your listing stays up for weeks compared to WoW’s pathetic 48 hours maximum.
-
crafting needlessly complex? that’s why a lot of people enjoy it as opposed to WoW’s crafting that’s so simple it’s boring, and anyone with tons of gold can get into it. In FF, that complexity is a barrier to entry which makes it more profitable and worthwhile. Low level crafts are worthwhile all throughout the game unlike WoW’s, which are only now seeing some use due to Mage Tower.
-
GCD isn’t noticeable in later levels so this is a moot point. As for button bloat I disagree with that. Most abilities are useful or part of your rotation.
-
You can actually repair anywhere if you have leveled up the corresponding crafting job and use some vendor bought materials.
-
Quests to enter dungeons aren’t a problem lol. Most of the time the MSQ directs you to those unlock quests, or they appear right on your map and the NPCs have huge unlock icons over their heads. This seems like complaining just to complain. No need to Google anything, literally just look on your world map and it’s there. As opposed to WoW where you need to Google/WoWhead/Icyveins all the time, I hardly ever feel the need to do that in FF. Also, the map isn’t that awful once you get used to it.
-
Ground effects are different than WoW but it’s not hard to get used to it, me as a WoW player since Cataclysm.
- FF14 doesn’t take itself too seriously in dialogue and there’s nothing wrong with that. Serious moments in the story are serious, as they should be. You are just trying to take digs on FF here. Thirsty weebs? Be sure that you’re including girls here too since they play this game and make male bunny boys to thirst over. Seems more like a human instinct than anything else. So your criticism falls flat here.
- Isn’t worth exploring? Well neither is WoW’s world either. In WoW, chests and such are full of useless crap that no one cares about. Blizzard doesn’t make exploration worthwhile at all. At least in FF, most of the zones are far better eye candy than that low res WoW crap.
- So is the WoW community if you poke them. White knights are everywhere on these forums. Also, what koolaid? Yoshida is a chad, he just gave everyone 2 more weeks of free game time (3 weeks total now). And you wonder why the FF community stands up for him. You’ve been screwed by Blizz so many times that you can’t even fathom a better company existing that respects its playerbase.
The main problem with the game is the MSQ is not engaging. he story is good but a monkey could beat it. The first 60 hours of the game is absolutely horrible. Literally a monkey can get through it. Its mindlessly boring. You can go hours where you have fought like two things that just fall over. The trials? Yikes horrible gameplay.
Sure but this is a weeb game first and foremost. The loli characters, cat girls dancing in their underwear in main cities (placed by the game designers), haha. Nothing wrong with any of that, I’m not kink shaming, it just isn’t my thing.
Nice reply! You’re clearly a big FF14 fan. Glad you’re enjoying it!
Unique and weird over clarity is bad. The auction house is awful.
Crafting is needlessly complex. You are right that people enjoy that complexity. I don’t. I wish there was a crafting-lite where I could just make my own gear and a crafting-core for people who want more out of it.
Button bloat - How many buttons are on your bar in the end game? I saw a post that jobs are 30-buttons in end game from 2018 on reddit… but again, we’re talking about preferences here. If they are 30 buttons for your core rotation by end game and you’re fine with that, sweet for you. I prefer half that for a rotation and frankly, I hate rotations, preferring a priority system with situational utility.
You can repair anywhere if you’ve leveled up crafting… Yeah, not for me.
I’ve never had to google a game as much as I’ve needed to with this game.
You’re into anime. This is your game. That’s ultimately why you love this game. I don’t know what you mean by chad and I suspect there’s an age and preference gap there. Nothing wrong, I’m just learning FF14 isn’t for me. I’m more of a Bioware RPG person. The last good FF (imo) was 10.
I can’t stand the instanced zones. Again, I am only 60, I hope they get larger - hitting an invisible wall when I want to jump into the water is… so 2000 / EQ / original GW. That is how they get high res art. Too bad they don’t know how to make a forest look good. While it is FAR lower res than FF, the handcrafted look of Elwynn Forest from Vanilla is so much better looking… but hey, this is personal taste. Seeing the same tree copy/pasted is bland to me.
I think we’ve identified that FF14 isn’t for everyone, just like WoW. I’m gonna stick with FF14 and I really hope the story floors me, I can get over the (imo) bland, instanced zones, find a fun class, and the thirst-first theme settles down.
Have a wonderful holiday!
Thanks
I thought so at first but I embraced it and now I don’t care. It’s really not that big of a deal because the game explains everything trough help windows or dialogue.
Ehhh like I said it’s got some pros and cons, and it’s a very different system from WoW. Buying/selling stuff is in separate windows which can be annoying if coming from WoW. But on the flipside, it’s a barrier to entry for selling and buying so if you’re willing to deal with that, you can sell stuff easier than in WoW. More casual friendly.
I wouldn’t call it complex. I mean, recipes require more variety of mats, but the rotations to craft stuff are the same across all crafters. So once you learn it on one crafter, you can do it on all of them and make lots of Gil. In WoW, you’re limited to just 2 crafting professions per character which sucks.
I haven’t reached endgame yet. I only just finished Heavensward but I do have some jobs at level 80+ from doing roulettes everyday for months. But, I haven’t used those high-level abilities yet since I haven’t unlocked the higher-level content. My opinion on this may change when I reach that point. For now, I haven’t felt the need to use any macros etc. I bind every ability to a mouse button on my razor naga.
If you level up crafting, yes. Like if you level up blacksmithing, you can repair stuff belonging to those combat jobs, like warrior, paladin, etc. It’s good for roleplay also. Oh, and as a big side benefit, you can repair stuff yourself past 100%, saving you more time from needing to repair it again and being more cost-effective as well.
What kind of stuff have you feel the need to Google?
Actually no. I was not into anime before playing this game. I loved GoT before it was ruined in later seasons, and mostly was into other Western movies and TV shows. The only anime I watched (if you can call it that, I’m not even sure) was when I was younger (Avatar last Airbender, Pokemon). Never even watched Dragonball Z. So I came into it from a Western perspective. But I am an open-minded person and am open to how other cultures do things.
This is one of my pet peeves with the game. But again, it’s whether or not you’re willing to put up with a small amount of bad in exchange for the rest of the experience.
Lol it’s like a compliment for a guy. Like bad azz. Yoshi just treats the players with so much respect and that’s why he’s almost universally respected and appreciated.
You said you’re level 60 right? Have you already beat Heavensward?
You too. I’m glad we could have a civil discussion about this topic. I have a hard time with this with most other people who bash FF. It just annoys me that people not only have a very different opinion than me but also that they express it without giving any fair justifications.
I edited my original reply because I was being a jerk. I’m glad you perceived me as civil, because I could have been more civil.
The clarity is a big deal for me. I’m trying to get friends into this game and I’ve got a list of “this means this”. The world map is super frustrating coming from WoW.
I hate the auction house as it is BUT I love retainers. I LOVE how FF14 gives so much life and attention to NPCs!! I love that you can give them personalities. I can’t wait to unlock squadrons, everything I’ve read about them is wonderful.
The problem I’ve had with crafting is I’ve watched YouTube videos where people explain it to people who already know wtf they are doing. You are SO right about FF14 > WoW in terms of allowing you to do everything on one character. I’ve heard it said that 10.0 will be changing a lot of things in WoW, damn I hope that is one of them.
Not into anime - well, you should be. It is wonderful. Obviously you need to watch Cowboy Bebop (the anime) but if you have Amazon Prime watch Vinland Saga. Frigg’n incredible show.
The invisible wall thing is a bummer but I am hoping in later game content the world becomes bigger. I honestly am getting over it, I just miss the hand-crafted world of WoW.
Yoshi is a chad! (I thought chad would be bad, but I’m oooooold and in the 80s it was a preppy person’s name and that wasn’t good). Yoshi does frigg’n rock. To give so much free game time AND lock future sales to account for servers. I wish Blizzard had a Yoshi.
I haven’t beaten Heavenward, I’ve mostly been grinding side content and doing everything I can to unlock squadrons.
I get your concern about people who bash FF. It is bad because FF doing well means WoW will need to adapt, which is a win win. As a pro-wrestling fan, there are two big companies at this point and they force each other to stay fresh and competitive. Competition is a win for all.
Either way, you proved that the FF14 have good eggs. Have a rad one (and watch Vinland Saga, for real!)
I’ve probably said some things to other people I would regret now. I can get very heated over this topic and can see how others would too.
That’s true, I tried to do that and just gave up. I will just learn it myself. There’s still SO MUCH that I don’t know, but in the low level of crafting (up to level 50) that lack of knowledge won’t be a hindrance. You’ll be able to figure things out yourself as it’s pretty self-explanatory. The rotation is just like any other kind of battle job - certain abilities go together. I like seeing a complex crafting system because it means there will be more potential for profit.
I made tens of millions in gold in WoW from crafting, so I’m coming from that kind of background. Eventually, I got tired of no-lifing the auction house and have basically retired with my millions.
I feel that. This game definitely requires reading, in terms of story stuff and in terms of help windows. Many WoW players hate reading and don’t even read quest text or tutorial stuff, because as you said WoW’s terms are more self explanatory.
The world map is annoying compared to WoW, I’ll give you that one. I do have hope that they will improve it in the future though, because they improved the teleportation system at Aetherytes. With the Endwalker update, they now show the map next to the list of locations and you can just click the location on the map to teleport there. So they seem aware of these problems and are making improvements!
Me too, I love the retainers. They are also like a passive income source. It is kind of pay to win if you pay for more than the 2 free ones, which is something I don’t like in games. But besides that, they are a cool feature and nice for roleplayers.
Squadrons also serve a similar purpose (you can even glamour them) and let you skip the queue times as a DPS, learn dungeon mechanics as a healer or tank, let you farm for gear (you get all the dungeon loot), and let you take the slow and scenic route through dungeons that you couldn’t do in normal group settings.
Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll check those out.
It’s just a shame that WoW is filled with annoying mobs everywhere who knock you off your mount. xD It’s much more pleasant traversing Eorzea.
Yep, competition is good. But Blizzard has lost all of my goodwill, which is why I dump on them so much. They don’t care about PVP gearing (one of my biggest grievances), which people have complained about since Shadowlands beta.
They only seem to listen and cater to top-end players, and Mage Tower might have been the last straw for me. I wanted that Fel Bear because it’s awesome but I took a break from WoW to play FF earlier this year, never played Guardian as a main, and it’s just too hard for me.
If FF gave players something cool like that, it wouldn’t be gatekept by such extreme difficulty! Mythic raiders and such might appreciate the challenge, but I definitely don’t.
Meh. Ff is boring, no sense wasting my time with it. I played enough ff games to grow out of the phase. 15 destroyed any remaining goodwill i had towards square enix. Far as I’m concerned that’s a dead company I wont be wasting money on again.
2 hours of attempting 14 was enough to see i wasn’t going to enjoy it or put in money. Especially when it’s not alt friendly in the sense that collections aren’t account wide and you can’t mail to toons on your own account. Have to use a third person and hope they don’t screw you over. The story didn’t draw me in either.
It is what it is.
You don’t need an alt in FF14. You can do everything on one account.
The story won’t draw you in at first. 1-50 is rather dull. I’ve told all my friends to buy the skip.
Some people will say “YOU ONLY SPENT 2 HOURS!” but not me. You saw combat, a little bit of the world, and some quests. I can say it definitely gets better but it is an FF game at the core. If 15 turned you off, yeah, might not be for you.
That said, you’re the first person I know who didn’t like 15! I am personally over kids-as-heroes in anime. I was over that as a kid a million years ago and I am now as well. No clue why most anime idolizes children. Adults watch it too.
