Final Fantasy 14 Community versus Warcraft

Ehh… Kind of.

It’s on a spectrum.

One is more comparatively tame, while the other can be extremely insane.

And honestly, we both should keep the games as they are and not change what makes those games different or stand out.

As much the FF fans can go “Well Yoshi the dinosaur said he’s inspired by WoW and”-- The results are different here. And both games craved their out own niches, even tho WoW isn’t exactly a niche product. Well, supposedly it’s not, but it’s a little hard to tell these days.

I play WoW because i enjoy the systems and gameplay WoW has to offer. I don’t play FF14 because i simply don’t enjoy theirs.

And on that note, we also have to ask how would it add to the games. I do enjoy Gw2 for what it is, an action focused platforming RPG. Or heavy focus on it, whatevs. I don’t think any of it’s systems would really work for WoW though and would just be there not because the devs think it’s a great fit for the game, but because the community thinks this is what the game should have. Something, artist’s vision.

Or, maybe it’s because the novicechat seems to crash/stop working/is full all the time giving the impression that it might as well be gone.

That’s probably the damage drop-off, I see several abilities/tooltips in WoW that read “does reduced damage beyond 5 targets”. Not sure if that’s a spreading the damage out evenly or simply applying less damage after the 5th target… but regardless, that could be the cause. Especially if one or more DPS is using single target burst damage on something that isn’t getting focused on by the tank.

Sometimes, this is true.
Not always.

And FFXIV’s healers are a bit…

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD LILY!

… “playful”.
Or at least some like to play “How low can the tank go?”
That may not be exclusive to FFXIV.

have you actually seen the ff14 forums? literally everyone complaining about the game there

Yeah each have their strengths and weaknesses.

FFXIV have a superior story, but you as a new player is locked into having to do it to partake in the end-game. While wow’s story is an absolute mess.

FFXIV have a much better and expressive emote system than WoW does. It also got housing.

Meanwhile WoW do have the stronger gameplay due to just how snappy and responsive everything feels. While FFXIV is locked to a noticably slow tick-rate giving a delay on eveyrhting combat.

However FFXIV does offset this shortcoming with a visual spectacle, both from personal abilities as well as encounter visuals.

This spectacle is also accompanied by a stellar soundtrack often unique for every boss, while WoW does have a strong soundtrack themselves. Their soundtrack however is more focused on ambience than spectacle and it’s rarely tailored for individual fights.

All in all if you enjoy mmos you might as well play both, no need to lock yourself down to one only.

Maybe it’s just me but my experience has been that the FFXIV community isn’t quite as nice as suggested while the WoW community isn’t quite as bad as suggested.

Not to try to suggest they’re equal in kindness, mind you. I’m sure there’s also a million factors that influence that experience. My mains being on RP servers probably helps on WoW, as they have more of a reputation for nicer communities.

Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if this thread is 404’d at some point. Mods can sometimes just be slow on the uptake.

Only just now. It’s old school 2000’s looking design is a sin against my eyeballs.

That said, the one about console gamers did caught my eye…

"…Console players have pressure to stay more casual just because they can’t use the same “enhancements” that PC players can and it is tired and sad at this point. Why even come out with the xbox version if you are going to second class citizen them out of the gate? "

“Enhancements” ( i think they mean addons, idk) should be on consoles too. I do agree. As well Mouse and Keyboard support for 100% of the titles. And open market places like Steam, Epic, GoG, and so on. And REAL backwards compability without comprimises with save states, rewinding, fast forward, binding, etc. And Linux support. And SO so much more.

I do agree there’s some commonality to be had here… Just in the most unexpected of places.

There is probably more of an community overlap than people want to admit.

There it is
The typical FFXIV white knights

Btw dear reader, FFXIV community “contructive and rational feedback” means saying how a polygon looks not as beautiful as the other polygon in the same plant or how even more beautiful the music could’ve be.

If you speak about how terrible internal GCDs are, how horrendously bad the quest pacing is to the point the first 10 horus can be insufferable, how the PvP in FFXIV is the worst pvp in all mmos by a mile, how bad the visual pollution is and how linear pathings are or anything linked to the game structure or even graphics, then you are not giving “constructive and rational feedback” you are just a hater.

Hope the context clarifies here what people in FFXIV means by “bad and hateful feedback” aka anything at all and “constructive and rational feedback” aka how the very “good things” could be better

Peace

Honestly quite sad the devs there didn’t triple down on the blood lily. Instead we got an forgettable AoE heal in EW and dunno about DT.

I think FF can be toxic but it manifests itself in different ways.

I made a jab at Haurchefant in a group once and the leader threatened to get me reported.

I’m like 95% sure it was in jest, but there was also a non zero chance they were being completely serious.

What? In what universe? Recently, there was literally a thread calling for the banning of WoW critics. And even outside of that extreme case, white knights regularly pounce on any form of criticism directed at their oh-so-perfect game and can get really aggressive with their replies.

Off the general topic did you know that Haurchefant was romantically interested in the MC. Didn’t matter what you were playing race or sex wise. In the Japanese version of the game. But that was considered weird for American audiences and so his lines were changed in the english versions of the game, to make him far more platonic.

If the GDC presentation leak is anywhere near correct and WoW is near 7 mill subs and the Lucky Bancho numbers for FFXIV are correct… than Wow has 7million subs to FFXIVs 1 million. Its not hard to believe considering WoW has like 5 versions pulling people in now. Based on that we can probably say WoW is a lot more popular at the least. I dont know if subs = better but that’s my thought process.

I did not know that.

I never really connected with him as much. But I cried my eyes out over Ysale. That one hit me.

My favorite characters are, ironically, Haurchefant, who is probably the goodest of good boys, and Zenos, who… well, to him, we are also the best friend! :joy:

Yeah, they changed his dialogue drastically in the english version. I always remember one line where in the english version he asks if your cold and if you would like to warm up near the hearth and he brings you a drink. In the Japanese version he asks if you’re cold and that his bed is quite warm and he’ll warm you up. Other stuff like that. There was a youtube video about all the changes.

They also removed several lines, that really couldn’t be fixed.

And yeah ff has some really emotional moments with diffent characters.

I’d say for the most part the communities are prerty similar. Both have people that complain endlessly. The english forums on ffxiv are every bit as critical. If just a quick look at the general discusdion. “Combat system is beyond saving” “the problem with doubling down on shadowbringers job design” Go to the healer section and it may as well be these boards.

So I have to ask, what were your exact words that got you attacked?
