are u gauging WoW’s popularity vs. FFXIV based on twitch at nearly 9amEST/6amPST during a world first race tat is basically going on 24/7?
That’s me!
It’s fantasic!
Keep telling yourself that, OP.
I know that the FFXIV talk has gotten very annoying on the WoW forums, but the writing’s on the wall.
FFXIV isn’t getting popular because of streamers, streamers are trying other things because they share the same sentiment as many (not all, but many) other players. I know it sucks that people aren’t sharing your opinion on WoW as much these days. But sticking your head in the sand or putting your fingers in your ears and going “la la la” is just silly.
But hey, keep blaming streamers. Streamers leaving for FFXIV and other games is the effect, not the cause. Think about that.
There are no wow content creators. You can get sued if you use WOW to create content or create content on behalf of the game.
A lot of those streamers are being accused of some really bad stuff right. It’s good they have moved away front he game.
It’s a nice little change from WoW but it’s not a wow killer. If WoW did die though that may be the next MMO I’d switch to. Not sure though cause the PvP is ugly from what I understand.
??? what??
Streamers are not creating content for wow! Breh. Basic.
Honest question. Have you tried the game?
It blows wow out of the water except in two aspects.

FF14: Oh man, another day of record sales during the dead time between patches… I sure hope our planned server rehaul happens so we can handle all these WoW refugees before our next expansion releases, adding two new classes and likely outselling Shadowlands on day one.
White Knights: NUH-UH! WoW is more gooder!
I guess BTS is the greatest musical group of all time. Beatles stood no chance.
To be honest. It’s not really a fad either. The population in ff14 is already dropping from its peak in a few days.
why reporting asmingolds numbers is more legit ?
It’s telling something when a major patch for the first expansion comes out and people are moving on to other games. Well i say play whatever makes you happy. 2 bad eggs in a row for WoW maybe 3rd times a charm? From past experience we had 2 bad expansions in a row then a good one after that.
you relise that WoW is just an Everquest clone, right?
Honestly, I’m not sure blizzard actually ever developed, from scratch, anything for Wow, pretty sure everything they’ve ever done has been stolen from someone else, then modified and shoved into warcraft or diablo.
Only original thing they ever did was Diablo and “Orcs vs Humans” and I’m not sure about Diablo.
This. So much.
Even with the wording you see from people that a lot of it is mostly hype.
“SEE! These are devs that actually LISTEN to the fanbase!!!”
"This game does everything better than wow! "
“That’s how you do insert something you’re frustrated about here”
I mean, don’t get me wrong this game has been in a decline for over a decade now due to Blizzard getting overly complacent with being the top dog for so long.
That being said, a lot of these people are full of it.
Sure this could be attributed to the whole idea that “WoW is dying” but the simple fact is. A lot of players aren’t happy with the current state of the game and it only makes sense for them to search for new MMOs to play. Luckily enough for FF14, not only is it a solid game in its own right (even if I personally despised the ARR grind, UI design and various other reasons I stopped playing well before FF14 became the “big new trend”) it is ALSO releasing an entirely new expansion soon too.
This could also be attributed to the idea that sure, asmongold… the biggest WoW streamer is now playing a new MMO but a lot of people also look up to Zack and his opinions. When people see someone they enjoy watching actually start ENJOYING themselves in a new MMO, of course people are interested in trying it out. There is no doubt that it’s definitely a trend. Maybe even a bandwagon. But at the end of the day, not all bandwagons are bad.
This is a result of years of disapproval from the players. When they see another company doing all the things right that they wished Blizzard did, it gives them more of an incentive to play the game. It’s like a breath of fresh air.
But with that being said, I don’t see FF14 stopping its growth, even if Asmon or whoever else decides to stop playing “six months from now”.
If FF14 seriously takes over WoW, that’s good. Competition in the MMORPG genre is healthy and crucial to prevent companies from becoming complacent.
It’s a game that focuses on story and casual friendly content, while also providing raids.
WoW on other hand is in constant decline, doing same thing for 3rd expansion in a row.
PvP is sole reason I’m still playing WoW.
Yeah, thing is, they don’t do any big changes during expansions, and they fix stuff on new patches, which means if you don’t like 9.1, just stop tbh. Going by last 3 expansions, they don’t do any changes during patches, so best you can get is some small changes in 9.2.
10.0 is make it or break it. People have said this line many times, but now, there’s actual MMORPGs that can compete with WoW, that are improving and communicating with their playerbase. Only communication we get is Kaivax making a forum post on something once a week or two.
Mhm. They really do seem to have just gone radio silent. The forum itself seems barely even moderated anymore to my eyes. It’s concerning that they have seemingly locked themselves in their war bunker.
Forum is hardly moderated, I saw a racist thread on eu forums that persisted for like… 9 hours? Flagged instantly, no one removed it. Was few weeks ago, that’s what happens when a company scales down on CS for no reason.
Forum staff and GMs are necessary staff, not marketing staff and PR teams.
No idea what even is purpose of their PR team, it’s not doing anything.
Then… how would you know?
