The things they changed?
Simple, their communication is very open and the player base is in general very appreciative about the game.
I learned about how bad the FFXIV originally was (terribly so). In respond they led their devs play WoW, learned from it, build upon those experiences and decided to make their own Cataclysm. Instead of what we got in WoW they nuked the game and rebuild everything though.
Of course it has problems, but the systems in place and the ways to replay old content sound rather nice. The main point however is, they’ve grown so something worked out.
No? did you not read what i said at all?
I will say, as someone who’s been around the block, comparing FFXIV to past “WoW Killerszes!!!” is off the mark. It’s not a new MMORPG about to be or just recently released. It’s an old title that has kinda gone under the radar until recently.
Also, once again, WoW itself is the root cause. If people were largely enjoying the story and content, they wouldn’t look outside for alternatives. Just to be clear, SL isn’t another WoD—BfA was another WoD. SL is a failure to reflect on or address the failures of BfA, which I’d argue makes it significantly worse than WoD for game health. That’s what is different this time that we’ve not seen before.
same with the 14 fanbase. I mean, anyone to talks garbage of the game or doesn’t like it get bashed. Look at Quinn, sure he boosted and got carried, but the Cult of Yoshida are zeroing on him because he had the crime to call the game bad
I heard they can be overzealous sure.
Going: “Na there are no problems with the game and everything is fine”, is on the other hand also silly.
The pro-blizz trolls are always convinced that if they can win arguments in the forum, it will have an effect on the entire playerbase - which it cannot, since those people don’t get information from a forum they don’t ever visit.
They have themselves in a circular reasoning loop that tells them that everybody who isn’t part of the pro-blizz hivemind is a sheep who got spoonfed their opinions by streamers.
That’s not limited to pro-Blizz trolls. It’s pretty much everyone on the forum with an opinion.
I disagree. I’m just here to mess with the pro-blizz trolls who are clearly working from a common script they don’t really understand. They believe that the preponderance of opinion on the forum can and should be disregarded if it is something they disagree with, because the over whelming majority of player never visit the forums, and therefore can be assumed to agree with whatever viewpoint they hold. And yet, despite their admission that hardly any players visit the forums, they are convinced that the only reason anyone is disappointed with the game is because of something they read on the forums. So winning arguments on the forum will save the game.
Example would be a thread (only slightly hyperbolic here) on “14 reasons why 9.1 is the most fun any patch has ever been in the history of the game!” posted by someone who doesn’t seem to be particularly analytical themselves.
not a lie there, because it seems so as folks love to obsess over Asmongold like he’s the litmus test of an MMO’s survival.
FF 14 has it’s strength, but it is rather easy, an heroic raid in WoW is not that difficult but it is still largely more difficult than what FF 14 has to offer. You have to willingly kill yourself even in extreme raids to fail, Same thing with the hard modes… All boss attacks are telegraphed and allow you 5-7 seconds to react.
WoW at higher levels of mythic plus and mythic raids is quite challenging
But for me past that, the biggest flaws of FF 14 is that they have no guilds, they have linkshells which is a chat channel between individuals, but no guild, no guild achievement, no sense of community and thus RP is inexistant. There is no walk up RP, RP servers in name only but where no one roleplays, while there is a ton of walk up RP on player created content in WoW, the lack of it in FF 14 is a killer.
Then again the NPC in FF 14 are totally uninteresting and the story is not something I would want to RP in.
We see more anti-asmon threads than pro ones when he posts something incisive. So that obsession kind of cuts both ways. I’ve asked myself why people who clearly hate asmon start threads whose net result is that people go to watch his videos.
Say what? Throughout the game, from as early as the 10-20 range, you’re required to do dungeons to progress the story. Those require people. The newest dungeons are the only ones that even have a “trust” system to go thru solo.
Again, pound for pound, or level for level, not true. Most of WoW’s early dungeons are just as brainless and mechanic-free as FFXIV’s. And as you get higher in the levels, you get more mechanics in the FFXIV ones.
You also have to realize that a majority of the new FF players are using the free play option.
When they start subbing and paying that’s when it counts.
FF finally toppled wow but not in paid subs.
You flaggers are so pathetic. A CM removed the flag in under of it being darkened.
Yep, it’s like comparing OG dead mines to M raids. It is not =
This is a pretty elaborate 8-year fad, then.
But for me past that, the biggest flaws of FF 14 is that they have no guilds, they have linkshells which is a chat channel between individuals, but no guild, no guild achievement, no sense of community and thus RP is inexistant.
This is absolutely incorrect. The system you’re looking for is Free Companies. Free Companies provide buffs for their members, can buy housing that can be used by the whole Free Company with their own rooms. These are what provide the social atmosphere of FFXIV. These are the Guilds in the game.
Please check your information before posting such clear misinformation.
Asmongold only has as much power as you let him. At best he showed people another game. Rather they play it or not or continue to is completely their their choice as well as their opinion on it. Just like people like to crap on him they are also guilty of assuming everything is stemming from him when they gain was gaining steam before he decided to play it.
There is no information to check, I played, there is no sense of community, no RP events anywhere, but don’t take my word for it. Google FF 14 RP guild vs WoW RP guild, look at which one gives more results and which one seems more organised.
It’s WoW, by a VERY wide margin. I have not found one guild in FF 14 where you stay in character at all times, and there is several of them in WoW.
Sorry, but the game you are fanboying is far from perfect.

I am literally playing Final Fantasy 14 right now and I’m currently sitting in the middle of a bunch of people who are roleplaying, completely unprompted, and it’s not even in one of the major cities. I’m in a Free Company of other players who are currently running through end-game content. You go to an Aethyrite in any major city and you’ll see a bunch of people standing around interacting with one another. Then there are the linkshells, the ones which I am active in are constantly filled with activity and people grouping up.
The community is there and it is not the fault of the game that you cannot see it in front of you.
You are talking out of your a** and have no idea what you’re talking about.
There is no dungeon in FF14 that is has challenging as a WoW dungeon as soon as you are around M+10 or above.
FF 14 is clearly intended for younger audience because all the content is really easy. Even the highest level of raids you have to nearly willingly die.
