I don’t know, i don’t play any of the tanking jobs.
They are both fun, but I like DRK more because TBN is fun to use, and their self-buff is easier to maintain because its not tied to a single target combo, plus their gap closer is not tied to beast gauge.
are monk good? read in their forum monk is broken at the moment
I don’t have any experience with it, but it’s got the most positionals which can be a pain. Greased Lightning apparently got easier to manage, I hear.
What do you think will be the second new job after sage? some people are saying necromancer but I dont think it can be melee and they said the second job is melee
Biggest theorycraft based on YoshiP’s t-shirt and some other hints are necromancer.
Can it be melee? Sure, why not? If you look at Diablo 3’s Necro, there are builds that focus on melee skills, and especially the armor sets are more plate-like in appearance which could match with dragoon well enough.
I’ve also heard people think it might be a Templar, which is a holy knight kind of thing that uses a hammer or other type of 2h flail like the crusader in Diablo 3.
Frankly, I’d be happy with either of those jobs.
The other one that’s theorized is Beast Master of Puppet Master…both of which IMO match better with the limited job like blue mage.
I won’t be as happy if we get those. Although a beast master that played like the White Lion from Warhammer Online would be kind of cool. Or perhaps like a beast master/survival hunter from WoW.
Puppet master is a big no from me dawg. Just can’t fathom playing that personally.
Other people think it will be something totally left field, like Sage was (since most thought we’d get an alchemist/chemist).
Another possibility is geomancer, which could in effect behave like WoW enhancement shaman. I could get down with that.
But necro or some variant of the name would be what I want the most.
True. Necro in diablo does have melee builds and a melee dps that uses a big scythe with some shadow spells would be cool. A dps version of DRK i guess
A lot of people would be seeing it going back to form from FFXI. In that game, the Dark Knight was a melee DPS job, that used melee skills as well as black magic.
The biggest reason against necromancer is the overall theme - perhaps a bit too dark or “evil” for Eastern audiences.

There was a “necromancer” in the 2nd to last dungeon in Shadowbringers, but it was an enemy boss.
That is true. I still wish gunblade was melee dps instead of tank haha. Would definitely be gunblade if it was melee dps since Squall is my fav FF hero
Since the new expansion seems to be months away I might actually not use skip potion and just level naturally from heavensward onward. FF story is awesome anyway and will give me time to relearn stuff.
It seems FFXIV is also going to implement stat squish on the next expansion same as WoW has done haha
It would feel the most organic and satisfying IMO
Here’s some information on the ARR revamp:
out of curiosity, how’s the single player outlook for this game? I typically play in 30-60 minute spurts and not always daily. Any classes similar to outlaw rogue or fury warrior?
You can play almost the entire game single player, and duties related to MSQ can be done with duty finder and are simple/easy.
From shadowbringers on, even these can be done with AI “trust” parties of your hero NPCs except for trials, which are big story arena boss events that are also easy to do with the duty finder.
As far as classes similar to fury warrior, I don’t really think there are any. The only melee that dual wields is a ninja, which is a bit different as it also has a sort of magic system with their mudras (think naruto).
Presently the game lacks a definitive brute-force “melee” feeling class like WoW’s warrior…I suppose the closest thing in theme is the Dragoon (heavy armor theme, 2h weapon). It doesn’t feel like arms or fury, though.
None of them really feel that much like wow classes. They also start off slower with less skills, less OGCD skills, until the end-game where they start to be more interesting.
You know maybe the next melee job in the upcoming xpac might be Pirate job hence the skull images
ugh not another outlaw rogue - although i think unlikely. They’d make more sense to share armor with ninja, but it’s already confirmed they will share armor with DRG.
Also Lilly, raids in 14 aren’t really like raids in 14.
The “normal raids” (and trials) in 14 are closer to Onyxia type encounters, where you’re teleported to an arena to fight a singular boss without any trash.
What we in WoW would normally consider a raid, (mulitple trash pulls, big dungeon with bosses) are called “Alliance Raids” in 14. They are fun to do, and good for transmog (glamour) but generally the gear from them is pointless. They also have a single difficulty, so they are by design quite easy. Think LFR.
There are “Extreme” versions of “Trials” which is kind of an in-between normal and “Savage” raids. These are all just single boss arena encounters.
That’s your opinion- not everyone cares about the storyline and housing. How is the rated PVP, combat mechanics etc… some people care more about that, than RP’ing in their little E-cabin.
PVP is an afterthought and 10x worse than WoW ever was.
Combat mechanics are fun, albeit at a slower pace than WoW. Boss encounters are fun, but the arena gets tiring sometimes. Strategies are static and memorizing timing, there is nothing dynamic about them, however.
If you like dungeons, you won’t like 14 because dungeons are irrelevant to endgame other than to get your weekly tokens or leveling.
But I bought an FF14 subscription and I’m worried that I may not be enjoying it and it’s making me feel guilty that I wasted my money on it. That’s why I still hang around here and make ‘FF14 is a better game’ threads because I’m a loser and I need the self-esteem boost that I did the right thing.
