Passionate playerbase, same as WoWs…shocking huh?
Funny how Asmonds time in 14 has been nothing but met with greatness. Guess you missed the grand welcoming of him, Rich, summit, and all the big streamers have been getting in game. But you ignore all of that and try to find all the negativity. You will ignore 1000 positives to focus on the one negative. As where with WoW, there can be 1000 negatives and you focus on the one positive and push it as your narrative.
It’s better in that you can dye gear, you can use any job to farm for gear, and you can apply glamours for free.
WoW’s is better in every other way.
Not entirely inaccurate, all the boosting going on (especially more so now with the $$$ sale on FFXIV boosts) the game world is empty… no different to WoW. Yesterday I ran around leveling zones from morning to night and only bumped into 3 people… that is 3 people in 8hours leveling…

They had a mid month spike (which is still above the start of the month), but they have been trending up for the last 4 months even before that.
Glamours aren’t free. You gotta use glamour plates that costs those thingies that you gotta craft or buy. And if you’re seriously complaining about the gold costs for transmog, then you’re a worse gold maker than I am and that’s saying something.
No one is using Steam numbers to say that’s all the players playing it. Only simply for trends. You can see numbers go up, you can see numbers go down. It’s nothing but a sample of people who play FFXIV. That’s all.
There’s no compelling reason to think that people who use Steam to play FFXIV are quitting/joining at different ratios than people who don’t.
At the end of the day, it’s just a sample.
In this case, pretty meaningless anyways. WoW gets hammered with new stuff. Classic gets hammered. FFXIV gets hammered. And a week or two later it starts to settle down and drop off.
You won’t really pull anything useful trend data from anything for another month or two really. It’s the hype train, this is how it goes.

FFXIV players can be happy that WoW fails.
Remaining WoW players can not be happy that other MMORPGs fail.
WoW is the crapfest that it is, because it have had a feeling of monopoly for a very long time, because it was simply “Too big to fail”
Giving WoW competition is the only way that WoW might get fixed.

But it does provide a sample to identify trends. There have been multiple news articles in the last few weeks using steam’s numbers to demonstrate the rapid growth of FF14…
So it is not surprising that the OP would use the same data to point out that the return to normal

Nope, I dont complain about gold, I buy tokens, so I hope that chaps your butt to. Gold is nothing to me.
Glamour plates cost very little as well. Basically free for most players.
It’s more about statistics. If 20 people play a new game the odds are that 18 of them will stop playing after 2-4 weeks and only 2 will still be playing long-term.
It’s why Blizzard sits on its subscription fee because if they were F2P they wouldn’t be able to make money off the 18 people just playing for that one month.
Ff14 is boring. Its only the buzz because of blizz news, not because the game is good or something. Because its not
