They donāt. All these MMO population websites try and use bots to scrape socials to āguesstimateā MMO populations.
WoW revenue in 2020 was $8billion, 2019 was $6.4 billion, 2018 was $7.5 billion. So you can say the population rose in 2018, dropped in 2019, and rose again in 2020. Q1 2021 was 23% higher than the previous year so itās possible WoW does another 8-10 billion this year.
FF14 is a little ant in comparison $$$-wise compared to WoW. Itās why so much is invested into WoWs development.
I no long play wow. Iāve thoroughly enjoyed FF for a few weeks now and keep falling in love with it. Itās like replacing a fat abusive wife with a new hot younger gf that does everything I want.
Now my feeling on Blizzard are complicated. In many ways I want and think they should fail. In your order to win it all sometimes we must lose it all and Blizzard been top of the food chain for far to long. Theyāve lost their way and the crap the release now shows it. Other mmos are gaining more traction and I agree Blizzard has some soul searching to do as this game is terrible right now.

So basically what you are saying both the WoW forums and the FFXIV forums are completely irrelevant and have no standing on the state of the game or the community that makes up the game.

There were no FFXIV fans doing that. It was disgruntled WoW players.
I am just calling out hypocrisy. I just saying that you are supporting a game just to bash a game.
To be fairā¦ final fantasy is also in an expansion lull. Literally no new content until November.
WoW still has a long way to go with shadowlands unless they give up. 9.1 has only been out a month.
That being saidā¦. other MMOs tend to be short fused fads.
Iām trying the free trial now and itās ok.
But I think I like WoW better game play wise. If only they didnāt have the broken systems

I donāt really care what you would do. I donāt recall asking anyone either. My choices are mine alone.
As far as FF community goes it seems rather nice. A lot of helpful people. I know I can be toxic but I also can be kind. Itās funny how when you take a person out of a toxic relationship and out them in a better environment they instantly start to change their ways. Itās fun actually working in FF for common goals and helping each other out. Itās how an mmo should be played. Wow breeds selfing, egotistical players that are only in it for themselves.

Get a class you enjoy to max level and I promise you will think differently on game play.
Heck, every content creator has agreed with that. It gets way better.
But you got the anti 14 people here, āit needs to be good from the startā cause WoW is sooooo good at the start to and leveling is SO much funā¦ eye roll WoW, to, doesnt pick up till max.

You can kite mobs less in final fantasy.
Less movement, etc.
