Not crowded at all (server #3). Just the right amount imo. Only issue was with some bad lag spikes, especially when looting/accepting quests or quest rewards.
Edit: This was shortly after opening the servers. I played for a total of 3 hours.

first logged in on realm 13, was not too empty, nor too crowded imho. then you all shut us down to shove everyone onto pvp servers, we went to realm 3 and from that time to shutdown that just occurred, i finally finished red bandanas on a mage, lag was horrendous, too many players even for start day, it sucked. i used same character and finally got to level 4.
6:14 Realm15, login as new Dwarf Priest
starting area and quests completely swamped, headed out to Kharanos.
Killing lvl 5 stuff. Still overpopulated in Dun Morough. Most animals are dead and camped. I got a few and leveled to three, no quests. played 30 minutes
Not crowded in Northshire Abby.
Realm 3
4pm Pacific
So far the stability seemed good for the amount of players on. However the amount of players made it near impossible to tag quest mobs. Only killed one in about 45 min.
Must have missed it.
A little overcrowded once the other servers went down and started getting major lag when handing in quests. Like a 30 second pause before quest accepted.
Dang, was in alliance druid starting zone, was just thinking ‘this is more like it’ completed a quest even! then got booted, all realms offline.
To stress test the servers well, enable instant respawns on all YELLOW mobs. This will help folks move along smartly to actually test the servers in many other ways.
I only had the choice of 2 servers I think it was 3 and 15. I chose 15 and there were hundreds of people standing around trying to get a hit on a mob any mob. I was able to tag 1 that is all. This was around 3:30 PM pst
Lag was the biggest problem (npc drops, cleaning bags, etc). Way too many players to do an adequate job of testing. Moved to zone 2 for druids to get any kind of xp. Completed 1st zone 1 quest at level 3!
If both servers #3 and #15 have the same amount of people, I would say #3 has layering enabled, #15 doesnt. You cant even tag a wolf in #15, #3 is way better and has a lot of ppl.
Same as most people. I first logged into a PVE server and the quests seemed competitive, but not impossible to do. On the PVP server, there’s just so many people I’m running around trying, and very seldomly successful, to kill anything around just to gain a little xp. If I remember right, it seems pretty typical of some later expansions when the opened up. But, I think mobs re-spawned faster too, which made it less of a problem. Anyway, still having a blast just exploring a bit. I figure in a few hours or so the starting zones will be a bit more empty, and I’ll just be a little behind everyone else. Which is fine with me.
Huge crowds in starting zones for certain races, but this was to be expected and good for the purposes of a stress test. I couldn’t do the first quest because there was just too much competition for the boars (Orc starting area), so I ran out into the world naked.
Not many people out and about beyond the starting zones. There were some, but nowhere near as many as in the starting areas themselves. I did log in pretty early on though, so no doubt as time goes by numbers will shift from early areas to later ones.
I did not experience any lag and my internet is generally terrible. I wasn’t bothered by the realm closures because I understand the purpose of this test.
Made a Tauren hunter on 3. Crashed before I could get onto the realm. Went back and made one on 15. Lots of people standing around but nowhere near enough mobs. Partying up worked ok. General chat worked ok. Logged into world defense. Saw a couple of people on troll and undead toons in the Tauren starter zone. Got ok drops on the 5-6 mobs I managed to kill in a half hour. Then got d/c’d and can’t get back on.
I was in Realm 3 did encounter some lag around 2:00PM doing some Quest in Brill. I was around level 4 the so many players were killing things I couldn’t get any of it fast enough to finish the quest.
Realm 3 layering cap is too low.
Realm 15 is better.
4:25pm
Was on the RP realm (can’t remember server number) at 2:00 PST. Wasn’t crowded at all. Seemed fine. Easy to complete quests. Was a bit empty.
About 2:15 PSTwent to 15 (I believe?) one of the only two PVP ones open. That was super crowded and very difficult to complete quests.
Now, at 4:25 PST I can’t get on either realm and pop is very high.
I was on pvp 3 from the minute servers were up until about 2 hours later when I got a message server was restarting. 2 seconds later I was DC
gameplay was smooth. but NPC interactions got super laggy, vendors and quest givers super slow.
update: after the reset npc lag is gone.
start zone was very overcrowded. even grouping, there were several full groups waiting on sarkoth to spawn.
It was much less overcrowded once out of the 1-5 zone, but the npc lag just got worse and worse.
gonna jump back in now that the server restarted.
Update 2: everything was smooth after the restart but still crowded, got a group and banged out the troll island quests parked my toon just a bit into lvl 7 I think,
Super tired, this thing started at 4am my time. I did my 4 hours of initial burst test and now i’m taking a break.
I will say it interesting that the pushed every one into 2 realms to get the stress levels they needed. Maybe the actual demand is lower than the forums would suggest.
I know, the forum consensus not matching reality? Shocking.
Durotar is pretty full up.
Mass DC a little bit ago but got back in pretty fast.
Loving that people are being social in an online game, not really used to that anymore…
It was perfect on the RP realm in the beginning. I thought the number of other player was just right. Then they shut down most of the servers and I had to switch to realm 3 (?) That was WAY too congested.
I gave up on questing in the new realm quickly and started just killing mobs so that I could get to lvl 5 and escape the crowd. Not only did this make me not want to quest but it also made chat kinda awful. It was mostly ppl complaining about not being able to tag mobs as opposed to the fun banter we were having in the RP realm.
