My post goes on to say that the eagle could be completely removed with no gameplay difference by changing it to either be magic (arcane archer) or nature/wind effects (ranger). This would be NO PETS. The default visuals could even be one of these types of options and the eagle/pet a variation.

I am very much looking forward to the change, but the eagle thing is silly if we arent supposed to have pets.
That would be good for me, but it still takes away player agency for those who want pets.
I suggested something similar
Spotter’s mark → ranger’s mark
All the visuals changed to not include a bird, instead, more wind animations
Lone wolf reworked - > work similar to grimoire of sacrifice - > that replaces the node cunning/tenacity in the talent tree
On top of giving you 5% damage you dismiss a pet and gain its Family ability
Rework the talent tree so lone wolf isn’t necessary to get true shot, or make lone work a choice node with a new talent that increase pet HP and decrease the damage they take or something like reducing the time pets are stunned/rooted.
This will make everyone in M+ and raids happy and will make solo content/pvp with pet more useful
I am really hoping the ptr is up next week. I want to try it out so I can give some real world feedback.
The pet was only used in PVP and Open World. I’ll only miss it in the world and delves, but I can make do with either of 2 other pet specs in a pinch if I need a pet in that situation. I hated summoning a pet in M+ and raids since it was a DPS loss with Lone Wolf.
I’m looking forward to the PTR and getting some testing done on the changes. My only concern is the Devs’ insistence on MM note having a baseline 2 target cleave like every other AOE ability in the game. Just imagine if any other AOE ability in the game had a minimum of 3 targets required to even work. That fact we are capped at a minimum of 3 and max of 5 withTrickshots is very frustrating, and making Trickshots a choice node with a 2-target cleave hamstrings us even more. We are also losing Light Ammo which means we will always be capped at 5 without the option to increase to 8.
Also, losing Careful Aim and increasing the cast time of Aimed Shot will hurt our burst not only in AOE but in Single Target.
With the Aimed Shot cast time increase thing that may need to be adjusted is an increase to the Volley Trickshots window, it needs to be increased to 8-10 secs instead of 6 secs.
Better Hunter’s Mark, make it do below 20% as well and have some form of aoe effect, its an awful form of group buff.

Well with the proposed changes you don’t need a pet in pvp since we will get the utility anyway. This only really affects solo pve. Even then you just need to kite a bit more.
If it’s an issue in delves you can always just swap to BM anyway. That’s what I ended up doing for torghast just to make it easy.
No, will not, i will not get the pet skills, only mortal wounds, so if i want to run a slow pet with a warrior, or a slow pet for flag bgs i will not be able to any longer
Without the pet i will not be able to defend bases from rogues or druids who sap/stun me, since i cant control it while stunned, or to not let someone sneak cap while im aiming shot someone else.
I will not be able to force the pet attack X target to prevent him from going out of combat - especially rogues who could stealth again - so they doesn’t eat to get mana/health back.
In solo and questing it will make things worse, more tedious and slower without a dedicated pet. In delves it will be insufferable without a pet to tank the bullocks damages, and no kiting will not solve it when there is dozens of mobs or elites/rares imunes to the traps.
You are effectively changing my way and others of playing, you don’t care, and you are telling me to get over it and play another spec/class, cause you are getting what you want, since this is a change tailored for M+/mythic raiding
then why in the flying nugget, did you and the M+ people didn’t just pick BM anyway to play? that way you would always have a pet to lust and would not lose time to summon, lust and dismiss it
why didn’t you do that? why didn’t you change spec or class but i and others have to?
Think about your answer, the core of it, and you will know why we also don’t want to change spec or class
That is a downgrade no matter how you slice it. Mortal wounds is always a better choice, and this is coming from someone who prefers a pet slow species but always end up swapping out of it. If that is your nitpick then my suggestion is to pound sand. This change is the best of both worlds.

I’m willing to give the changes a chance, and I like that it will make MM more unique. If you want pets go BM.
I hope they continue this trend and apply to the other classes in this game. As far as I’m concerned the class design of retail is an absolute mess when it comes to classes having a bunch of pets.
Mortal wounds is not a better choice if i already have a warrior on my team who already can do that, and the uptime is 100%, did you even read what i said?

Yea I do, and so have plenty of others. The majority of subs are in legacy versions of the game. I basically just log on to do pvp world quests, weeklys, and random old raids for transmog. I only hit 80 last week because so far TWW has been the most mediocre and limp expansion in wow history. During launch I only made it to 73 before quitting.
I came back to retail because of the MM hunter changes. It sounded interesting and something I’d like to try and get used to for the next expansion.
