I like the update because it fits my playstyle well, I understand a lot of people are upset about the change but for me personally this change is only going to do good things for me.
Which is totally fine. The major issue at hand is full removal of pet access for Marks.
Would you rather see that the upcoming changes for MM hunters were made optional through talent choices?
this would just mean MM has a talent tax on its design and would be worse off than every other spec in the game
The pack leader changes are mostly fine but “an adorable turtle on your head” for 10% DR on a long cd as a defensive replacing den recovery which heals and can be used more consistently sounds conceptually/visually lame af and mechanically a downgrade, especially for PvP. At least make it a choice node so I don’t have to have that thing on my character’s head.
Also, glad to get pet specs back but for PvP, pet options are still very limited since few families have Mortalstrike which is a must. I just want to PvP with a wolf or bear, not counting the new PL summon. It would be nice to make MS a talent or attached to a spec ability like MM will have with Aimed Shot.
Yup, I’ll explain. The changes the devs are making don’t make any sense to you. There are plenty of players who are excited for the changes. The main difference is I can see why you’re upset. I think many players who don’t like the impending changes can’t see why others like and want the changes, like you’ve described over and over, since it doesn’t make any sense to you. Your proposed fix is close to impossible. They will not add an entirely new additional hero talent tree to appease one talent between a spec that doesn’t need a pet at all to a spec where it’s integral to how it functions.
If the emotional attachment to your video game pets is that strong then you should have no problem playing the other specs that can still access them.
It’s actually very much possible. But that’s just one of my proposed fixes.
First, and easiest, would be to make the pet completely optional. Get rid of all the “friction” for the people who don’t want their pet.
Second, would be the hero talent. Something they absolutely could do if they’re willing to put forth this much work into a rework mid-expansion.
Third, would be a fourth talent petless talent tree for Hunters. Much more work, but they’ve added a spec mid-expansion before as well.
Fifth, and the hardest, would be adding an entirely new ranged physical DPS class. This is something that would definitely have to wait for an expansion PTR to implement.
They have options. They’re just choosing to remove our pets to appease group content players.
People who don’t like pets can switch to a class that doesn’t have pets. That would be even easier than reworking MM. It’s pretty telling that it’s only the pro-pet people who are being told to move.
You’re also posting from a feral druid which is way more mechanically intense than MM hunter. So, my statement makes even more sense lol
Sure, they probably should have made pets optional and removed the pain points that currently exist, but it’s pretty clear from the blue post they are looking to change MM from more than just a gameplay standpoint, but also a thematic and philosophical one as well.
A single hero talent choice node? Maybe. An entirely new additional hero talent tree. Probably not.
A brand new talent tree for petless hunters sounds great! I agree! Glad you do too. They are doing it with MM hunters!
I could see a tinker class having a ranged spec that uses guns. Would be rad, but a different fantasy from the sharpshooter marksman.
Crazy they would try to appease group content players IN AN MMO. Oopsies!
I stopped playing MM over having to use a pet, because I, like many others, want a archer/sharpshooter spec with zero pet interaction. Suggestions for how that could/should happen have been repeated ad nauseum. Players who want pets have other options.
Be careful making this claim, people will say you’re lying or you don’t exist soon
No, they’re not making a new spec. They’re taking an existing spec and ripping out part of it.
People who want to play a ranged class have other options.
I hear you, but I feel it’s a fair claim to make. If the opposite were true, the devs wouldn’t be reimagining how MM interacts with their animal companions, but instead, simply making gameplay changes to how things currently function.
Yes, they made new content for solo players (with your trusty companion Brann!). Content where you can also play with a group.
Brann isn’t “trusty”, he’s frustrating and is not a replacement for having a pet.
Sure he is, you can MD to him. And the point of including Brann is that you aren’t actually solo while playing with an AI player.
