Feedback: Epic Battlegrounds

VEHICLES IN WG and IoC

Please fix …

  1. demos not shooting until you relog. Making me relog…I get half way though and just dont log back in.
  2. I dont know…but I get this a lot…hopping in vehicles…I get disconnected and booted to log inscreen. Again…at this point…I just dont log back in.

this is a result of the server thinking you are moving too fast and assuming you are speedhacking, so it disconnects you. this also happens when you use a glider, get knocked back by holy nova or explosive trap, or simply TP somewhere in map too fast, like up to the airship in IoC.

bug since I am not moving fast nor far…not even moving sometimes…changing seat in a vehicle

and sorry, changed to my rogue :stuck_out_tongue:

not sure why but I’m winning more AVs as Horde more often than I used to with different strategies employed. so thanks for whatever changes brought that about. It was my only bg to have less than a 40% win ratio until now. Looking forward to Tol Barad being added to Epic BGs or even a new one.

I want Tol Barad. Note that it is the opposite of WG in that you have to take down towers to ADD five minutes.

Also, Stormpike Insignia must become a toy. Someone said this was happening in an AV instance but I see nothing to that effect.

Sadly, the story of AV was developed with two very distinct bases, etc., a history, a quest line (hidden not even on an FP in Hillsbarad Foothills), at least one massive yeti, and so forth. AV is the poster child for why Blizzard doesn’t do epics and won’t until they work out warfront AI, and it’s because changing anything is a massive process because it’s all hard-coded likely NPC by NPC. Hence the need for the AI before they even bother again, because Tol Barad was a massive effort and even with equal numbers of people is very difficult to take compared to holding it, and you notice that after the hatred TB got it was really the last epic MADE until what was Ashran becomes one.

With TB they fixed one problem with Wintergrasp: TB is almost the reverse of Wintergrasp in a way: taking down towers ADDS five minutes starting from 15; they probably didn’t like starting each WG at 45:00.

Anyhow, I want my insignia to be a toy. And the quest givers for AV need to be in the instance so people don’t have to hike to Hillsbarad BFE Foothills to find quests not even on a flight path.

Edit: please allow me to hover over the gates on the map to see their health percentage. PLEASE!

Wintergrasp

Some more feedback following more games played:

  • Games are fun when there are small(er) skirmishes around key points without the presence of 10 vehicles. I wonder if games would feel better if there were fewer sieges?
    • Reduce the number of vehicles per goblin workshop by 1 (so 3 each), keep workshops to 2 (so max vehicles assuming control of all workshops + defense is 16, down from 24).
    • Increase health of vehicles by 45%, reduce damage to players by 30%
    • Players that join late should automatically be given a rank, perhaps tied to the time they join? Anything after 5 minutes after game start should be rank 1 at least.

General

  • If Epic Battlegrounds are expected to be longer, I wonder if the deserter penalty for these battlegrounds should be of epic proportions? This is apparent in both Alterac Valley and Wintergrasp (and IoC, but less frequent as games don’t tend to be as long, and I foresee this being a problem for Ashran), where players abandon the games after the first couple of lost skirmishes.

The debuff is 15 minutes, the games they abandon often have 25m+ remaining, hence the mass desertions.

You raise some good points but I do see an issue with that section.

On paper it sounds great to have the quests moved to AV proper. But I think that’d have a downside that would bring some negative behavior to the battleground.

You’d see a spike in people doing inane thing like delivering supplies from the mine. We have a hard enough time convincing people to defend chokes and towers, imagine if there were 5-10 people every match picking up quest objects in a mine that only matters in prolly 1 in 10 matches.

And capping Snowfall, as one of the quest is literally to capture a Graveyard and that one is usually the most available.

The only real solution I think would be to move the Insignia quest to the battleground and make sure all the sections of the questline are relevant to modern AV objectives. (I can’t recall what they are, just saying). The other quests can stay in Hillsbrad for completionists so there’s no distraction from objectives.

Capping an untaken GY won’t fulfill that quest, which is the worst part about it.

Oh is that right? Been a while.

Oh well, still would probably increase SF capping and raging.

You have to fight for it. There’s no one to fight on an untaken GY. But no one knows that.

WG really needs a better way at busting up the roving death train of vehicles. Which ever team wins the first clash is generally the one that will win because of the vast amount of vehicles that will be pulled. The RPGGs need a huge tweak to make them worth it or something else needs to be implemented.

I haven’t found it a big problem. Dummies usually stack up nice and tight, too.

Every match i join after the first team fight whoever wins gets the large blob of vehicles and then it is just gg. Side note: can we stop starting games at 15-20 vs 40 plz? getting exhausting.

Even back in WotLK I never understood why vehicles were capable of doing mentionable damage to players. Aren’t they there to knock out walls and other vehicles? If they need better defenses against players so they don’t die easily, that can be done without them blowing players up.

Well, when I’m on the the side that wins the first engagement, I quickly push shift-space to see the player list. The Alliance team just clears out. That’s why it’s hard to stop our momentum, half the players left to do it are fresh 0-rank backfills who are irate to be backfilling into your ex-teammate’s problem.

even still if they would have stayed it would be like what 8 vehicles at most vs 12 while horde is already pushing into another WS. If the team that lost the fight was on assault that stall in and of itself can cost them 2 towers which is a lot of time and the team that won can use that momentum to quickly cap the map and roam.

Vehicles are too powerful as a player killing tool.

EDIT: forgot to mention that if the team that lost the first fight didnt get enough kills to get enough ranks for a demo immediately then it snowballs even further

Well keep in mind Offense starts with a 15% damage buff, and as the battle goes on and towers are destroyed that buff shifts hands to the Defense.

If Offense manages to wipe in the first encounter with that 15% and even numbers, it’s a sign your group obviously isn’t very strong. The battle is just going to get worse from that point on as the buff evaporates.

That just happened to my group, broke a good win streak too. Crap happens, dust yourself off and move on. Wasn’t the battleground’s fault we lost, it was bad play. Nothing anyone can do, Blizzard or otherwise, to help that.

Alliance winning the first teamfight? I find that hard to believe

Any screenshots? I swear, whenever I do a WG on my Alliance toon we lose the first teamfight like 90% of the time :grimacing:

Buffs etc aside, there shouldnt be a huge snowball effect that follows. If you lose a TF you should be able to regroup rethink and reengage but that doesnt exist and it turns into a 40 min snowball fest of roaming vehicle deathsquads.
