There’s two issues with that though, first it’s simply unrealistic to think GM’s will for some reason do a better job in classic than they did ever in retail. Second by the time I ignore someone I already had to see whatever made me ignore them in the first place, squelch provides an incentive for them to think before they speak.
If only there was a way we could see this system in action and monitor it over a couple years timeframe.
Oh come on. Who do you think you are presenting this to? Players who didn’t play for years under the old system? A “little bit” longer is such an absurd statement.
Yes, many authoritarians want to dish out punishment when they think they are being offended. But that should be in all reality blizzards job. Not the job of a player. Blizzard needs to analyze the report before punishment, or no punishment. What you advocate for is essentially the same as a lynch mob. There is a reason why lynch mobs are illegal.
It’s our problem when the GM’s don’t do their job, which they demonstrated they can’t or won’t do. So sure if blizzard decides to respond quickly to all issues there’s no need for auto squelch, until then maybe watch your mouth in public channels.
It’s actually not that hard to do.
And no, what I’m saying is that a public chat channel in a video game shouldn’t be your captive audience to spew whatever you want to.
Uh, it is very much a player’s problem as the player is the one who suffers from the disruption of communication forced on them by spammers and trolls.
Tell me how I am wrong. If enough reports flowed in from people that reported him it would prob flag a dev faster. If its one or two people trying to harass another person it might take longer. I think the issue here is players feeling the power to use the system to harass others.
You have ignore right? What do you care about the other players, they have ignore as well. Why do you feel the need to police the community? Each person can ignore or report just fine.
I have to ask, how many times have you been banned while playing WoW?
Because every player is partly responsible for the PUBLIC communication channels that we are given to utilize in-game. The players in game are the society, in public channels the society should have the power to enforce certain standards. Simply ignoring something does not make it go away. I have repeatedly pointed out why allowing spammers/trolls to run roughshod over the trade channel seriously hampers the point of the channel. Putting them on ignore does not remove the spam from that channel.
There are players that cannot learn unless they get immediate repercussions for their actions, like touching a hot stove. Want your freedom to act like a pants on head idiot? Create a channel and have at it. Or do it in the public channels and get your finger burnt by the stove.
I just got the image of the United Nations writing sternly worded resolutions, and then getting mad when the US finally gets fed up and takes off the gloves and gets the job done.
You’re opening a massive can of worms that you don’t want to open with this line of thinking. If you cant see that then you don’t have a broad enough frame of reference to understand the situation.
Yes, partially responsible. As in doing your part to report bad behavior. When you get robbed do you call a cop or do you go after the guy yourself. What you are saying is that if something annoys you or hurts your feelers that everyone else feels the exact same way as you, like the hive mind. I do not think like you and would like to not have you represent me in this community. Therefor the best option is to use ignore, report the problem and trust the rest of the community to do the same if its bad. You by no means need to be the judge and jury here.
This again is authoritarian and you wanting to punish people, not simply report people and let blizzard decide if the person needs it or not. You are the problem here with that kind of attitude.
If you scroll up you will see cited blizzard text that state the same. Enough with the melodramatic statements. The system has been in place for years in retail.
Oh, enough with the dramatic buzzwords. I can only imagine the streamer handed out a list of scary words to use to his followers to include in their pearl clutching posts.
