False reporting and automated ban

What I like is the suggestion of the auto ignore with the report. Then blizzard can make the decision and the person offended will not see the offender. This to me is the best solution. The people that want the power to auto silence are actually toxic to the community and are on a power trip. They think they should enforce blizzards rules by their hand instead of blizzard enforcing the rule. They feel the power and hold it dear. They do not want to give up that power. Its people like that that are toxic dictators. Just report, get auto ignore, and move on, don’t be a jerk.

Except at that point you’ve already seen the offender.

The internet can be but blizz says wow isn’t going to be. /shrug

I guess I could have been more clear. You will not see his chat again. Possibly not see him again. Yes you already have seen him, hence you reported him. Since having reported him blizzard will review it, and you will not see him. Problem solved for you, unless you want to be the one punishing him and declaring judgement, which is the heart of the issue here.

I’m saying that if every abuser is punished, someone somewhere should be able to provide evidence of more than one player being punished for abusing the system.

There have been multiple examples of people abusing the system and the results that abuse had on those players who were the victims of that abuse provided.

Those opposed to an auto squelch have provided video proof that the system has been abused.

Those who want the option to collude with their friends and guild mates to squelch any other player for any reason, even that other player never broke any rules just say “Trust us. No one will abuse the system. Even if someone does abuse the system, they will be punished. We cannot provide any proof to substantiate that claim, but trust us. We know you’ve provided video evidence that the system has been abused, but that doesn’t count.”

Lol.
Well done! +10

I don’t think I agree with the logic that just because a broken system is broken we should live with it…

According to you a lot of things are broken. Then again, you are against rules of any kind and you think people should be free to do and say whatever they wish.

“Words on a screen cant hurt anyone”

Do you believe this, yes or no.

If people knew how to use the ignore feature it would not be a problem. Its when community members want to be policemen of the game assuming they have the moral high ground. They want to protect others from said speech, when in reality everyone could ignore others if needed as well. Hence why it should not be auto silence but auto ignore.

Yes. Absolutely. This idiot got squelched in Hots for some offensive racial slurs and then decided to go on face book and tell blizz how he felt and added some threats. Which prompted a visit from the fbi.

is there a language filter in game one could use to filter out said language? /sarcasm.

Is there language in the CoC that says certain language is not acceptable? No sarcasm. Honest question…

I’m sure there is a filter for certain words. You cannot name your character or pet certain things. It has been developed over many years to understand most meanings for words. Turn your language filter on in game once and you will see a bunch of weird symbols in sentences.

Now, Blizzard’s word is Gospel?

I’m starting to see a pattern here.

Blizzard’s words support Padre’s desires= GOSPEL

Blizzard’s words do not support Padre’s desires= Blizzard lies and cannot be trusted.

That sounds a lot like what he accuses those who oppose guild banks of doing.

If I know Padre, he will be here shortly to give us some far fetched reason why it is OK for him to do exactly what he accuses others of doing.

He will also likely have some comment about rats, circular logic or never having been countered, as well as some horrible attempt at role play and horrendous musical selection.

is there a language filter in game one could use to filter out said language? /sarcasm.

The mature language filter is to give some control, to parents who don’t wish to have their children exposed to such language, as well as others who do not wish to see it, to block it.

That does not give folks license to use such language. Our policies prohibit the use of inappropriate language and subject matter, this includes both clear and masked language.

B. Rules Related to “Chat” and Interaction With Other Users. Communicating in-game with other Users and Blizzard representatives, whether by text, voice or any other method, is an integral part of the Game and the Service and is referred to here as “Chat.” When engaging in Chat, you may not:
(i) Transmit or post any content or language which, in the sole and absolute discretion of Blizzard, is deemed to be offensive, including without limitation content or language that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, hateful, sexually explicit, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable, nor may you use a misspelling or an alternative spelling to circumvent the content and language restrictions listed above;

  • The mature language filter exist so that people who do not want to see obscene language have a way to block it**. The availability of the mature language filter does not mean players are free to say whatever they want to whoever they want. Our Code of Conduct still outlines what is considered violations. You adhere to this, or you are silenced.**

  • It is impossible to block swearing completely. Not only is the dictionary of vulgarities ever evolving, but chat filters can just be circumvented. We would need to not only create an all encompassing dictionary of terms, but we would also have to create a dictionary of every variation of those terms.
    An example: Badword becomes B@dword becomes B A D W O R D.

What other people do or say in chat has no bearing on what is or isn’t permitted. Others who swear will also find themselves silenced if they are reported for it. Best way to avoid a silence is to watch what you say and avoid Code of Conduct violations.

So report it and auto ignore him. You will not see it again and if wrong blizzard will take care of it. Do you want to pass judgement for you being offended, or are you trying to assume everyone is offended and you must protect everyone around you. I do not want your protection personally. So do not speak for me if I find something offensive or not. If you find it offensive personally then the auto ignore should work for you, and it still is reported to blizz to see if it is just or not.

They want to protect others from said speech, when in reality everyone could ignore others if needed as well. Hence why it should not be auto silence but auto ignore.

When you see a problem, do something about it.

t. Do you want to pass judgement for you being offended, or are you trying to assume everyone is offended and you must protect everyone around you

Swear and Ill report it. If you get squelched, maybe you need to not swear in future.

Reporting is doing something about it. Being authoritarian and applying judgement instead of letting blizz apply the judgement is wrong. You are not blizzard and you should not have the power to do that.
