We didn’t walk into a private residence; we walked into a commercial establishment, a very different situation.
Imagine an arcade that once had awesome games. However, over time they replaced those games with boring schlock. You loved the selection before, but now you don’t want spend money in that arcade. You can certainly walk out the door, saying nothing. But you could also talk to an employee about it, and maybe with enough people stating the same complaint, especially with a compelling argument to back up the complaints, the arcade’s owner could opt to purchase good games again. Or the owner could ignore the complaints and lose those customers.

in the “vanilla community” if 20 people random target you, you have probebly done something wrong like ninja loot.
and if you being muted for 5ish hours costs 20+ people their possibility to report people for spam, well then that is a good trade in my books.
Blizzard has literally said “people who falsely report will have their reports made basically pointless, losing their right to report.”
and again, you cant both have your “vanilla community” while alos NOT having it suddenly. If people are abusing it, they will be blacklisted.
I thought the whole point of vanilla was because players policed eachother, and the community policed itself, now suddenly you want blizzard policing the community?
While doing research I found some pretty funny stuff, above someone claimed that name reports were automatic. I checked, couldnt find anything, found 1 thread though from a pally on an RP REALM (that is important.)

- bilbo a character name in or out of wow, not really allowed
- swaggins… not a real like… name… so yeah…
rp realms have quite the tight code for what names are and are not aloud. people also pointed out bilbo is pretty close to a slur in another language.
why lazy peon got his name flagged, cause lazy peon is actually a racial slur, but once he pointed to the mobs in the vanilla zone they let him off and said sorry.
it is a private residence, not everyone is allowed, they have strict rules you must follow or they kick you out.
also btw a commercial establishment can kick you out for any reason they like btw too, it is still private property, they are just allowing you in.
and no you shouldnt be bothering a random employee, you should ask if you can speak to the manager, or if not if you could leave a note or something, be concise, calm, and direct, don’t start screaming abut how the place is bad, it was better in 2004, you are gonna stop coming, and instead go to that place next door that steals their wifi and electricity from the arcade.
Blizz has said, and proven many times over they want feedback, they want critisizm, and we see that with the massive amount of Q&A’s they do these days.
but “GAME IS BAD IT SUCKS VANILLA BETTER IM UNSUBBING, AZERITE IS BAD, EVERYTHING IS BAD IM GOING TO PRIVATE SERVER” is not constructive, it is spam that makes the devs NOT want to listen to us.

In fact this seems like being silenced has no effect unless you’re trying to be a nuisance in public channels. Lol
that has in fact changed from what it was to what it is now. some things you cant do that you wouldve been able to do before and some you can.
i dont have the specifics i just know ive heard people who have been silenced and could not do what that link says they could do.

positive. ill have to ask them again but they couldnt whisper bnet friends or respond to whispers from non friends or talk in global chat channels like trade or anything.

No it is those who enjoy baiting and banning people for using the wrong word. It actually works against the community as it dictates to it what is acceptable by a minority rather then letting the majority decide.

Ok so does everyone involved recognize xeck’s friend as the final authority we are going with on what’s changed with this or could one of you guys maybe research your topic a bit and clear this up? Thanks.
It’s not policing the playerbase. It’s giving trolls the means to ruin the game for others.
Tagging mobs another player is trying to kill? Reported for trolling.
Grab a resource someone was heading for? Reported for trolling.
Level 60 killing lowbies? Reported for trolling.
Killing quest givers or flight masters? Reported for trolling.
Guild trying to kill a world boss? Report tank.
Etc, etc.
And it doesn’t need to be trolling. You can say cheating. Why did 20 people report a guild’s tank who was doing Kazzak? “Well, it looked like he was hacking and teleporting around.” Good luck disproving that. People can say anything to come up with an excuse to justify why they reported someone. Hence, there will be no repercussions and the system will be trolled constantly. On top of that, imagine GMs having to go back and investigate every report in a borderline situation. Having to individually look at a dozen players, two dozens, perhaps more for each person that got squelched and determine if they were abusing the system or if it was a legitimate report. Blizzard would have to hire a ton more GMs for that task. This is a recipe for disaster.
Now, why don’t these report abuses really happen in BfA? Because none of those conditions even exist. There is no competition. There is no scarcity. Players can’t affect your experience. Blizzard has created a perfect safe space where no one can have a ‘negative’ impact on your gameplay. Classic doesn’t work like that. There will be constant conflicts between players. Giving frustrated players the means to censor other players is a terrible game mechanic in Classic. I can’t envision any circumstance in which this doesn’t end up a total catastrophe.
There’s nothing wrong with the simple system of ignoring someone, reporting them if they’re breaking the rules and then a GM will sort it out. It’s the mature way to handle the situation. It’ll save a literal TON of baseless reports from being filed (since the reason those superfluous reports will happen is just to abuse the auto-squelch system).

isnt that the literal exact opposite…?
you do know people willstill be able to report right? havign the squelch just ends stuff early for people who are being troublesome… it does not suddenly make it so no one ever reports ever…
Those who enjoy baiting and banning people for using the wrong word can still get people silenced, i dont think you know how the system worked, or works now.
with or without the automation, if you say a bad word and someone reports you, you may get silenced.
