False reporting and automated ban

I thought you were against the auto-squelch. When we were talking about blacklists you mentioned guilty until proven innocent. Does that not apply with the auto-squelch?

Hey it’s Aehl. Welcome back. I definitely don’t remember the section of the EULA/CoC that says we can’t cavil about the right-click report system being completely abusable.

Nope. Working as intended. If Mr or Mrs Potty Mouth cant learn self control, a squelch will help them learn that lesson.

Nope.

I can see a person using foul language on my screen. I can then report them and know that what they said has been logged and the report is correct.

A “blacklist” is little more than a lynch mob “XYZ did this” and no proof. One is not the other.

Hey Zis

When you clicked I agree, you agreed to abide by the rules Blizzard sets down. All of them.

Yes, but just because you will use the system as it should be used doesn’t mean others will.

Thats for them to work out.

Ill give you a very small piece of advice. Before you click I agree to something, read it.

All of it.

So, just because they have something written down, I can’t give feedback in an attempt to have them change it? Blizzard has made many bad decisions that players gave feedback on and then changed it. I don’t see why this would be different.

You can give all the feedback you like.

But at the end of the day, if Blizzard says this is how it will be, you have two choices.

Accept it.

Or leave.

But, that’s not true at all. I can give feedback and attempt to get them to change it. As with anything. That’s like this forum in general. Blizzard literally asked us what we want from Classic. They want our feedback.

This isnt feedback

This is you wanting to be exempted from the rules everyone else has to follow.

So? The same can be said about any system.

We’re not asking to be exempt. People who swear and such in chat will still get reported and still get silenced/banned/suspended based on a GM review.

Not how it works on live.

I dont know how many times I have to say this GMs DO NOT have the time to manually assess each case. The squelch is basically a SHUT UP mechanism.

It may take hours for someone to look at a case and in the meantime the person involved is free to swear and abuse people ad nauseum.

Not acceptable.

GMs do have the time. They did it before. This autosquelch is only like 2 years old at this point. They handled it just fine for the other 12 years, even when the game had nearly double it’s playerbase. And that’s fine if someone is free to continue. You can put them on ignore. The more they continue their rantings, the harder their punishment will be when a GM reviews them.
Frankly, I don’t think it should be on live, either.

No it isnt.

No they dont and thats why two years ago this was put into place.

Tough.

And you should give feedback. You more than likely will never move the needle lobbying that profanity should be allowed or that a filter would suffice.

However, abusive language is pretty clear cut for the most part. Players like Aehl are sensitive to cursing, and they’re not alone. Cursing’s low hanging fruit, and an easy one to follow. There’s other things that we should just know better; racial slurs, physical threats

But I digress. My concern focuses mainly on things that are subjective. Some people are just wound up a little too tight. Some people love looking from the outside in and feel compelled to just shut people up.

I’m not saying these people will abuse the system, but it does make you wonder.

How do you know? Plus, GMs still have to review the reports anyways. It’s actually not making less work for them.

I actually don’t think others in this thread will really abuse them. But, I do think there will be people that for sure will. It’s a very easily abused system with no repercussions to the abuser and the abused was still silenced and lost time.

That wasn’t the way it worked in vanilla nor in WoW in general until right click reporting was added.

If GM’s were actually reviewing and acting on issues in a timely manner it wouldn’t be an issue but they never did in the past and there’s no reason to expect them to start now.

Absolutely. And why I’m glad it’s under discussion.

I remember this same doomsday scenario being mentioned the day the new system came into place.

Didnt happen.
