Finally, there is also a massive difference between “x ninja looted, he is now never invited to my groups, groups with my guildies, or groups with anyone else who knows him as a ninja looter” and “I don’t like this guy, so my guild and I mass reported him and now he’s silenced in game for 1-3 days, at a time when being able to communicate was vastly more important to game play, until a GM can review”

Thanks for the reading lesson. All I was trying to say is that really the only difference between blacklists and auto-squelch is the magnitude of the consequences. You yourself state that they are both a product of coordinated social targeting to limit another player’s interaction with community.

The more discussion I read, the more I agree it will be abused in classic. In particular for things like trade chat sales competition, and rival guild harassment. It may be better for community if it’s not included, and people can just ignore the racists in chat, same as we always did. But I seriously doubt including it is going to be fundamentally gamebreaking like some people argue.

Because Blizzard goes way out of their way to delete threads and posts exposing their broken system as the rancid garbage it is. Spend some actual time on the forums and you’ll see the posts pop up and get vaporized within an afternoon…

As for leaving the over warching threads active at all, I think it might be finally sinking in to the morons running this company that perhaps this entire system was a mistake, and that maybe, considering the massive outcry not just here, but one literally every Classic centric forum I’ve seen, that this is a pretty big concern for the health and longevity for Classic specifically, considering the significantly harsher penalty imposed by a “squelch” in a classic environment.
