No, because it takes time to review tickets. The auto-squelch is a near immediate response to Gold Seller spam. The effectiveness of their advertising relies on how long they’re able to spam their message for. The longer they can spam for, the more people it reaches.
Here’s a compromise I feel is a good middle ground that Blizzard may actually be willing to entertain:
Get squelched by trolls, GM sees you’re not selling gold or characters; GM bans trolls. Sound good?
I think i know the answer to this one, i seem to recall it being repeated several times in this 3k+ post ( No! because players shouldn’t have any power to silence other players!),but that’s what blacklisting is?! and here we are again at the start of the heptagon.
Communication has moved outside of the game for a lot of people. The chat in discord is way more fun than the chat in game imo. When they start allowing gifs and memes in chat come talk to me. Until then I’ll be in discord. VoIP is more efficient than typing in game. Always has been always will be. The community is not just in public channels nor is it regulated to one game. Also communities setting their own chat standards on a third party social platform allows those communities/admins of those communities to weed out any undesirables that stand against their idea of community.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Group with like minded individuals. Build communities of like minded individuals and keep the controversy of the real world out of the game. Keep it in crap posting channels in discord. Made for it. You will have no issues in game. This is a non issue for most and won’t be an issue in classic either. People abuse it. Blizz will have to do something. The community can sort this out themselves:Don’t act a fool and don’t abuse the tool. There’s better places to crap post to the extreme than our beloved Azeroth.
How absurd. The opposition in this thread is not even a measurable statistic compared to the players who have not voiced anything, but are rather blissfully enjoying the system that has been in place for years without a thought of it’s existence. Your tiny band of opposition do not represent anything beyond your tiny band.
It’s more like subversion thru alt brigading to appear stronger/more numerous than they really are. While we are taking notes up there. Take note of all the trust level 1 avatars that have disappeared from the forums. This thread slowed down and so did the forums right around the same time. Leads me to believe a “group” or an individual with multiple avatars isn’t as active as they were…nah no agendas here though… lol
Ignorance has to be the most blissful thing.
OK, Padrepwn, I have decided that I post less abrasively on BW. So here I go.
(Unfortunately my trust level does not carry over, and the gnome will have to handle meme duty)
So since its going to be implemented into the game no matter what, I will be the first to admit it will be absolutely weaponized; auto report feature will be used whenever a player sees someone (friendly or not, its basically irrelevant) about to cap a flag in WSG, the opposition main tank for AV on Threk, or someone trying to swipe a Rich Thorium veins.
Not even because they want the nodes, but its because that is the ONLY way it will actually be addressed is when it becomes a problem.
Enjoy your 3 day bans everyone!
It will absolutely be used on me, too – more people frivolously banned by a broken system, the faster it will be fixed.
Sounds like a workable solution, but I would like to see some sort of safeguard in place so that trolls and cutthroats like the guys I play with cannot abuse the system at all.
Not sure what is the best way to approach that, but perhaps in order to “report” a player you absolutely MUST click on the actual message in chat rather than on the players avatar.
It would also be wise to set the threshold for a “Squelch” to something a little more sensible like 30 to 50 reports.
IMO after 10 reports are made the ticket should be escalated to the GM presence regardless, and action can be taken swiftly, but the reason for the 30 to 50 individual account reports Squelch system could be still in place just for the sake of GM overload conditions.
Does that sound like a decent and fair way to handle it?
That should be a fairly simplistic algorithm to build, not terribly complex. I just don’t want to see any abuse because a system is easy to manipulate in a negative way.
No matter our desires on that subject do I believe that Blizz would include them.
The guild banks as we know in modern wow can be abused too; I had my guild bank looted by a new player back in early wrath or late TBC because some one gave the guy too much privilege and the guy looted us.
The GM’s response was fairly clear… your guild gave him the authority; there is nothing we can do about it
Doesn’t change how ripe for abuse it is. Seeing how that is the moral stand some are taking on the squelch. I’d figure you guys would support gbanks to promote community and stop the ones who will use it as their personal slush fund with no way to track it. Interesting…
